Correction: in the home leg of the League Cup semi final v Birmingham, the score was 1-1 on the night before Rangers won 3-1.
Great memories
Hey man, I'm making a list of players with the most saves in 1 game, I received information that Phil Parkes in Queen Park Rangers' 1 x 0 against New Castle in 75/76(07/20/75) could be on that list. Could you post the highlights of this game on your channel or if you have already done so, could you send the link to the video?
Thank you for sharing this highlights package. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it ⚽️
Amazing 30 000 fans, 20 000 gate... £0.66 per fan..
With £5 being dole pay and £26 average pay.
Lol 3mins of Everton dominance and a goal... Great way to kick off qpr highlights.
Was very lucky to watch Ray v Arsenal in 92. It was 0-0 but could have been 4-4. All I remember was this guy controlling the whole game spraying laser passes to every part of the pitch, he was the man of the match. Never seen such a dominance in a pro game....makes you wonder what would have happened if he played in 86 against Argentina..what a footballer!!
Loftus Road looked a better ground in 1970 than it does now lol
Well worked 3rd goal for QPR.Rodney a class apart.
Thank you so much for this wonderful trip down memory lane. My dad and I started going to Loftus Rd that season. We both fell in love with the team, the ground, the atmosphere. Everything. After the home game against Coventry in November my dad made a decision on the way home to buy two season tickets for the Ellerslie Road stand. He made the call from a public phone at Hangar Lane tube Station. Those were the days - when an ordinary working class bloke working in a factory could afford a season ticket for himself and his son. My dad, God rest him, worked in the Grace plastics factory in Park Royal industrial estate. I remember our season tickets arrived by poston the day Princess Ann got married. We had the day off school. I was so excited to get those tickets. It was like winning the pools! Those were great days. Real football played by guys we could recognise. Lads called Mick, Steve, Terry and Dave. Guys we could dream we could be like. Now - clubs owned by Arab oil sheiks, players from lands on the far side of the planet who barely know what country they're in, never mind what city. Players getting million pound wages who spend their days rolling around pretending they're injured and forced to wear rainbow laces. Yes I am an old git and I don't apologise for it. The game meant something in those days and the players were like us. Now you need to sell a kidney and your first born to afford tickets. Not to mention £75+ for a bit of polyester tat made in an Asian sweatshop with some other man's unpronounceable foreign name on your back. And a new one needed every season. No thanks. The game was once an expression of local pride and identity. Now it's just soulless money grabbing. Little punks made millionaires before they can shave. This video is wonderful but also heart breaking. We've lost so much. Come on you Rs. My heart will always be in the Ellerslie Road stand (wish I could remember the seat numbers) for those years we were lucky enough to have those season tickets. Stan and Don and Dave and Gerry. Those wonderful blue and white hoops. The muddy centre circle. Both teams running onto the pitch when they were ready. None of the bullshit hand shaking (or slapping). No kneeling down. Just the game. Thanks mate. You've brought back great memories.
I’m not even a QPR fan but I’m loving this
They did that teeing up a free kick for the taker before it was banned
First time I’ve seen the footage of the games v Plymouth and Man U. Surprised you didn’t include a clip from the home game v Leeds, which was on BBC news. That season, the record attendance at Loftus Road was broken twice, first in the cup tie v Leicester, and second in the last home game of the season, against newly crowned champions Leeds.
superb video! what a side Rangers were in those great days, loved that era, mud and sideburns! Gerry Francis' sideburns were most impressive, all the players looked like they were enjoying themselves, Sir Stan and TV in particular, in my opinion football was so much better back then than the sterile product of today
Absolutely brilliant video Dave. Brought back a lot of memories of going with my Dad
Remember well the season QPR came so close to Division 1 title, only went there twice age 13 that season when they beat Everton 5-0 & last game v Leeds as wasn't actually fan but they were excellent to watch
Fantastic to see so many R's greats scoring some brilliant goals and doing well during our first season in the old First Division after promotion COYRS!
Lucky that LWT seemed to be the only ITV company that kept their 1970s programmes. The clips from other regions were the "bonus matches" shown on The Big Match
A nice look back--thanks. One minor gripe, though. I much prefer the term "First Division" (which is what it was for most of English football history) over the term "top flight."
Thanks, I was a bit stuck on if I say first division do people get that means todays premier league, now I'm typing that I know of course people realise. I'll aim to use that term a lot less in future reviews. Cheers
@@QueensParkRangersMemories : Thanks. I went to several of the matches as an 11-year-old boy that season at Loftus Road. The terraces were so cheap that even those on the dole could go a couple of times a year. At today's prices? Out of the question for those watching their pennies.
John O’RouRke not John O’Rouke. Its pronounced O-Raw-k Splitting hairs though tbh. Interesting upload even though im not a QPR fan👍🏼
great video nice to see how QPR built the 75/76 team which is when I started going to watch them, first game the home match Vs Aston villa and what a player Mick Leach was, remember going to his testimonial against Red Star Belgrade.
the good old days remember them well posse and the boys
Great video thanks.
my first ever QPR Game...stood at the school end as we beat Burnley 2-0! Great days..I was 9!
Not one goal by Stan in the top ten. Also nothing by les or magic hat.
All local players in those days.
Thanks for posting. Well there we have it, Gillard's work in the build up to Ranger's goal gave Cruyff the idea for his Turn, ish.
Sinclair scored with his right foot , the painting has it coming off his left foot 😮
My birth year.
I was there on my own on the day of my 17th birthday. I went on the supporter's coach, and there was terrible traffic, we arrived after 40 mins played and we were 0-2 down. Was a brilliant comeback and Kiywomya even had a chance to win it. Sat next to a Finnish R on the coach and got home to my Gran’s at 4am. Happy memories!!
Real shirts no ads on them either
Real shirts.
Rod nee Rod nee
Memories…. So many.
Happy memories...far prefer this to todays sanitised product....proper tackling...no goalies fannying around in their areas or even outside.. And of course Brian Moore...the doyen of commentators...thsmks for posting this😊❤
A sunday with Brian Moore..nuff said
I was one year old haha
❤
Oh, how I remember and miss these days
Me, too. I can't believe it was over 50 years ago.
RIP RAY 🙏
Serious memories for me. I arrived 5 mins late for the match and had to be persuaded not to leave and possibly walk away from football. Then Kevin Gallen's magic hat reeled me back in. For the better? Not sure 24 years on!!!
I remember witnessing goal number 8, fantastic goal
I was in the Chelsea end at the side and when they got their late equaliser the surge was so bad i couldn't move for about 20 seconds. It was scary for me as a 10 year old. Great game though and Townsend's goal was 🔥
TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Marsh world class but at city to much of a show boat.
He made mistakes but QPR wouldn’t be anything today without Jim Gregory.
If Rodney Marsh was south American he would of gained 100 plus caps for his country, he was a genius on and off the ball.
Same could be said of Glenn Hoddle.
I agree although Hoddle did get a far few caps ...other flair players like Frank Worthington, Stan Bowles and Tony Currie plus Marsh only got a handful between them.....that's why we didn't qualify for the 74 & 78 world cup finals in my opinion!
@incognito9533 I agree with every word!!! Other countries were laughing at the FAs stupidity in rejecting such magical players. They would have been global stars had they been born anywhere else.
Anything with Rodders and I'm there.
After the miss at 3 minutes 10 Bowles I think Bowles says "I don't fucking believe it". Brian Moore translates it to "Bowles says, what do we have to do to score". Innocent times😂😂
How the fuck has he not been paraded at the ground in forever r’s
