I make original music featuring classic keyboards, such as the Mellotron, Moog, Clavinet, Fender Rhodes, ARP2600, VCS3 and Hammond Organ. From 2012-2015, I was a member of the Margots, with Ken Vandermark and Tim Daisy. From 2004-2011, I played with an early version of current Chicago rockers, the House of Brunettes. This reminds me of early Tangerine Dream experimental electronic music like Alpha Centauri and Zeit. Really cool sounds and tonality. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for that! I love TG and really appreciate it
sounds great! love the deep reverb and treble in the metallic materials resonance
@@barbadoskado2769 Thanks so much for listening and passing that along. I appreciate it!
you could of been a member of the ............................................................B.B.C (british broadcasting company) radiophonic workshop rick. such is the work/soundscapes you create.
@@MOOGTRONMANIC Thanks so much for that!! Very high praise indeed (too high I think). I really appreciate your listening and sharing that.
"the dystopian plains of nitrus 4" comes into my mind. this ambience has lots of tension. love it rick, thanx for the upload.
Nice journey on this one Rick! There are some really intriguing sounds in this piece. Your art and music has really Advanced! I’m digging your new instruments and wonder how you found them. Rock on!
Thanks for all that, Kyle. I always appreciate your feedback. Yeah, I discovered this Italian company Azzam Bells that makes these unique, cool little percussion instruments that do a great job of generating unusual tones. I honestly can't remember how I stumbled on them, but I probably saw something they made featured in a YT video. They're very distinctive looking. What's great is that they all come with internal pickups and have 1/4" output jacks, so you can amplify them and also run them through effects pedals to generate even more interesting sounds. Their U.S. distributor is Etsy, so if you search for Azzam Bells on Etsy, you can see the range of their instruments.
The gong sounds reminded me of something between a downtuned electric guitar and a V8 race car flying by at a great distance. The whole composition paints a beautiful picture, somehow haunting and warm at the same time.
Hey, I love your description of the gong! That gong generates some amazing overtones. Thanks for listening and sharing all that!
@@RReger Thank you, too!
Yeah... crazy how good this sounded with a terrific stereo, dynamic field of the sound moving around. Ambient, but not without direction and form and drama.
Thanks so much for listening and sharing that!
Yeah Rick this is a good one! A little different texture than some of your other musical offerings. Powerful yet sublime and exotic exploration! Really like this and that Gong really is Boss😀 (sorry for the late response.. we suffered serious storm damage from Helene.. no power other than generator for 15 days now. We should have that part restored tomorrow then we have have a new roof put on and two trees cut)
Kyle, thanks so much for this and I'm really sorry to hear about the storm damage. I forgot that you're in that area and may have been impacted. It sounds like your ok, which is the main thing. Hopefully your studio didn't get badly damaged. Wishing you all the best on the recovery! Yeah, this piece turned out really well (I thought) and it's been getting a really nice response. Take care my friend and hang in there.
Killer atmospheric work here. Very cinematic

@@baddriddimworkshop Thanks for listening!! I got the gong at gongsunlimited.com Check them out!!
@@RReger very nice, and as an independant builder i think those compagnys should be supported (like espen i think ethics matter in audio gear), but i couldnt justifie spending that kind of money for myself on a gong. tbh that's what i was thinking when i was writing that comment... bvut i do support other teams though... (synclavier digital, t-rex... just to name a couple)
@@baddriddimworkshop Hope you can get a gong someday!
very nice

great stuff, is that the mellotron flute sound? you really added a new feel to it.
It's actually Mellotron vibes, but set at half speed, which really alters the timbre. Thanks for listening!

Dug this one Rick!
Thanks for checking it out and sharing that Steve!
You really seem to have a talent for creating audio experiences that aren't too ambient and drifting. There is still movement and direction. Always very evocative of mysterious physical environments.
Thank you Rick for another way out sonic experience! This one is very Deep &really haunting. I’m always amazed with how you pull all of the parts together, in cohesive fashion! I’m thinking very “barren landscape” if asked for a description. That VCS3 is something else. I’m guessing that maybe it served for major inspiration for this piece. ? It seems to have a life of its own. Love the mellotron!! Keep it flowing!
@@KyleWhitlock-Music Thanks so much Kyle! Yeah, the VCS3 never fails to serve up some sound that knocks me out. I don't how it pulls that off because it's not a super elaborate synth. But it does deliver. Thanks again for always listening and sharing. Cheers, my friend!
An almost Celtic-melancholic-on-the-moors mysterious wistfulness...
@@nsbd90now THAT'S my favorite description so far!! Thanks!!
@@RReger Melancholic, on the Moors and... _under grey skies_ forgot that part. lol!
awesome rick! dreaming in the dark subterraneon labyrinth under the mountain.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate that!
Adding the B to the note selection makes those cluster chords that are quintessentially mysterious. With the great patching it all comes together nicely.
@@davidryle Exactly!! Looking to experiment more there. Thanks for listening David!
Good morning Rick. Very cool and wonderful.
Good morning to you too, my friend! Thanks for sharing that!
Fantastic! Your knowledge is truly inspiring. I would love to know which gong you use, please. Your choice interests me greatly!
@@el2086 Thank you!! The gong I used for that piece is a 32" Heng gong from gongsunlimited.com I have a number of their gongs and singing bowls.

The Electrosphere it's wonderfull!
Thanks for listening Dante! I agree on the Electrosphere!
I’m really digging your latest ambient work Rick! Awesome contribution and the Electrosphere instrument blows me away. Very otherworldly!
Thanks so much Kyle! I always appreciate your comments and willingness to listen to a 10 minute opus. Hope you're having a great summer. Looking forward to your next contribution. Thanks again!
@@RReger You bet. Rough times right now with my truck AC out and temps have been 100-102. Recently a whole folder of music projects mysteriously vanished from my PC hard drive. Fortunately, most of the files were backed up onto another drive.😅 It’s about time for a new PC. The music must go on!
@@KyleWhitlock-Music Yeah, bad time for an AC outage. That sucks about the PC issue. That's always a worst nightmare. But I'm glad to hear you had most of it backed up. That's the last thing I do every day in the studio...back up that days work. Hang in there, better times are coming.
My man!
great stuff rick- 2024 space odyssey.
Thanks so much Mike!!
Cool! Where did you get the "Crown"?
It's made by Azzam Bells in Italy. They distribute their gear in the U.S. through Etsy. So if you search for them on the Etsy site, all their unique instruments should come up. Thanks for listening!
@@RReger thx for getting back to me
Dig it! And an impressive stable of vintage instruments you have there! I'm most jealous of the Mellotron and, maybe more so, the Larry Young t-shirt - this piece could have been on the second side of one of his late 60s albums . I gather the electrosphere was sitting on the Hammond bench? I challenge you to recreate it using only the Hammond (I'm sure you've heard Earl Grants bird imitations: ruclips.net/video/H210lGgCvIA/видео.html)
Thanks so much for that John! I LOVE the fact that you recognized the Larry Young shirt. Nice! Yeah, the Mothership session is one of my favorites of his. And you are also correct that the bench was my Hammond bench. Your Hammond Challenge is receiving serious consideration! Ha! Thanks again!
Yeah, Mothership! I’m a big fan of “Of Love and Peace”. Carry on!

Mellotron mk6 ! gosh ! lovely wood
Yeah, it's a Mk. VI made by Markus Resch. I totally agree on the natural wood finish.
@@RReger and the sound... i never saw this one, is it a vintage or recreation ?
@@smartti1970 You mean, the mellotron? No, it's not vintage. It was built in 2009.
@@RReger oh really ! i don't know about hald of what's being built this century ! :-)
nice Arp sounds, is it an original or Karp ? Vcs3 looks new... dream synth what a beauty , amazing bird noise
Thanks so much for sharing that. It's an original 2600 from around 1975-1976. The VCS3 is fairly new. It was built in 2017 as part of a run of new VCS3s and Synthis that EMS started producing (in small batches) 10 or so years ago. I think they are still filling orders, but I'm not sure. Ha! Thanks so much Dante!!
Right on Rick! I really enjoyed the fun adventure in “Spring struts”! I hear shades of Soft Machine in your Rhodes piano playing. Killer piano sound! How do you achieve the tremolo effect on your Rhodes? Great contribution my friend!
Thanks my friend. I was hoping you'd hear this one. When I bought the Rhodes, I bought a Stage Vibe rail from Vintage Vibe to get the ping-pong tremelo effect. I love the sound but I do miss the look of the original rail, which I still have. Glad you enjoyed it.
