The best green lane for beginners - Rudland Rigg
Back in January, my adventure bike journey began on Rudland Rigg, a stunning green lane nestled in the North Yorkshire Moors. As luck would have it, this was one of the easiest and most enjoyable trails I’ve ridden to date, both in England and Wales. With its rolling hills, breathtaking views, and smooth, beginner-friendly trails, Rudland Rigg is perfect for riders of all abilities. Whether you're new to off-roading or a seasoned adventurer, this spot truly captures the beauty and spirit of riding in the UK. Enjoy, cheers!

6000 miles already?! - What I think of the Yamaha Tenere 700
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.19 часов назад
It's been 10 months and 6000 miles of getting to grips with adventure bike life, so I thought I would share a newbies perspective. In this video I cover what I think is good, what is bad and the little bits in-between. This is just my opinion and by no means am I an expert on what an adv bike should be, that is 100% personal preference, but there's only one way to find out if they're any good, ...
A rookie takes on the Holmfirth Green Lane Loop!
Просмотров 10 тыс.14 дней назад
Join me as I tackle the stunning yet challenging Holmefirth Loop in South Yorkshire. This ride had it all-breathtaking scenery and a thrilling mix of gravel, sand, and rocky trails. As an amateur rider, the steep and technical green lanes pushed my skills to the edge, but with my trusty Yamaha Tenere 700, I took the gamble... did it pay off? Yamaha Tenere 700 on the Old Coach Rd Green Lane - PART 2

Same but different! Heading back along the Old Coach Road, I was surprised by just how challenging the terrain felt in reverse. Bimbling around the Lake District roads on the T7

Every off-road adventure has to end, but the ride doesn’t stop there. In this video, we kick things off with the legendary Hartside Pass, where sweeping bends and panoramic views of the Eden Valley take your breath away. From there, we dive into the dramatic Honister Pass, with its steep, towering cliffs and jaw-dropping landscapes that showcase some of England’s finest scenery. Finally, we win...
Yamaha Tenere 700 on the Old Coach Road, Lake District - But Green Lane in England? PART 1

What a day for it. A pair of T7's and a Triumph Tiger take on the infamous Old Coach Road in the Lake District, making the most of the summer overspill into autumn. Our first time on this green lane and what a mint trail this is, and definitely challenging. #yamahatenere700 #bikelife #adventurebike #greenlanes #lakedistrict

Glaisdale Rigg is not too far from there, makes a nice easy loop. Rudland seems to have been graded recently, like you, I rode it in January and there were some decent bomb holes full of mud which have disappeared. Have you done Cam High Road and the Roman Road near Hawes ? Similar lanes, but Cam is a little more gnarly on the ascent - I managed to fall off twice a couple of months back doh ! Best Tenere set up I've done for me. First remap . Go to Hilltop motorcycles Hinckley to remap . Geof knows his stuff . Most my bikes in last decade + have been done and huge big smiles every time riding the 180miles home from his workshop . Much more go more economy less euro emissions bollocks even on a little Honda CRF 300 rally much more perky. Decat pipework and aftermarket endcan. Cheap lazer printed airbox lid and snorkel removed with decent air filter. Result goes like bikes used too. Which resulted in extra tooth on front and dropped two on back. No loss of go as all that held it back gone. Does 70mph at 4.5k revs and averages 64mpg . Not bad as not gentle on throttle. Flip thing on aftermarket Puig screen 4 in or 100mm taller than standard and extra 4in with flip. 6ft 4in and no bufetting. Cool cover makes seat from one hour to many hours of comfort. Result from all this is a great bike for just normal riding and with all the extra go a lot easier but turns into a fire breathing beastie if pushed along.

I'm gonna disagree with the comment about slowing down, you need to speed up a bit, this is a top heavy bike, that really doesn't like really slow travel is these rocky conditions. Find a place not so rocky to practice on and build your confidence up with this bike and you will find yourself riding in the rocky terrain easier, maybe not fun, but easier. I live in Arizona, and it just rocks off road, all sizes, and I took me a few times and different riding styles to get a good feel for this bike. Having a Yamaha WR also helped, but do something easier first and that should help. Good luck!!

I see so many comments about attacking the terrain etc. I come from a background of motocross, enduro, trials and road racing at a decent level and now after packing competition in, I spend my time skipping around the green lanes on my World Raid. Enduro bikes, the faster you go the easier it is and even when the bike gets out of shape they are light enough to keep in check. Trials is all balance, clutch and throttle control. The Tenere for me is a real mix of both because you have to think about that weight. Downhill momentum is king. Anywhere the front end is wayward, likely to cross up or muddy low grip, I ride it more like a trials bike (Tenere tractor). Wet rocky climbs fast enough to keep momentum but if you hit those rocks hard with 220kg, that tyres gonna get a puncture! Is all a balance. Hold the bike between your knees, look as far ahead as you can so you can pick a line, and move that body weight around. I’m not an expert in off roading btw, just my opinion.

you can get a little dongle that allows proper on/off operation of the abs - easy to find online - back brake not front brake mate, don't roll down hills with clutch in, clutch out and using throttle to keep bike balanced is the way, maybe on really steep descents you let the engine do the braking but never roll with clutch in , perhaps roll bars fwd a bit and learn to get elbows out - vertical arms is not the best way to control a bike - easy way to get elbows out is to turn wrists inward on the bars or point the fore fingers toward the reservoirs, feels weird at 1st but the control increase is massive -same with ankles, turn toes into bike and press heels into the frame - knees will then grab the bike and the arms can relax which makes bike control better - pressing on footpegs for change of direction and/or balance, forget arms as tools for control in most occasions, i should focus on riding on your balls of feet too - the mid and rear foot is no help to you if shi7 gets real and will only assist in injury- - good riding by the way, some tasty little lanes there - keep the commitment high 🙂
