16 flights today, thanks to Milt for doing all the tows. Sugar, Cirrus and 4 private ships flew. I think that's a record for private ships in a long time. Kaz had the record at 3 hours. Max lift was 5000 AGL.

29 flights today with thermals to 5600' MSL (4600' above ground level). Managed to get some nice drone shots of the gliders despite the winds aloft and thought I'd put together this short and, um, slightly aggressive recap.

Beautiful, slightly windy day of club operations. 17 flights today. S, 103, Cirrus and a private ship flew. Lift didn't get good until later in the day. Jared had 3 hours in the Cirrus. Dave was still up when we left. Thanks to Milt and John for towing. and Jared for instructing.

It turned out to be a really good day with lift to over 6500 msl. The club's SGS 2-33, 1-26, 1-34, Cirrus Standard and 1 private ship all flew. We had 19 flights in total with Kaz still in the air at 6pm-he took off at 12:30. Thanks to John and Milt for towing.

HUGE news for the day is that Jeremy B. solo'd today. Congrats Jeremy! About a dozen flights today. Sugar, Grob and Cirrus flew. Thanks to John and Mike C for towing and Mark and Scott for instructing. Note the Green tow ship is down for repairs. Longest flight was 90 minutes by Kaz. Mark had about an hour flight in the Grob that wasn't an instruction flight.

A windy day with 10-12 mph winds gusting to close to 20 at some points. A nice slip landing at the end flown by Alex. Good lift was found with Kaz flying for over 3.5 hours.

A somewhat windy day, but both pilots did a nice job compensating for the crosswinds.

It was a somewhat windy day with 9-14 mph winds at ~30 degrees off centerline making for good crosswind practice. Clear skies but no lift to be found.

    The turns from Base to Final needs to be more square, and less rounded.... I learned to fly the Schweizer 2-33. when I was 16, it was a fantastic experience, and launch a flying career.

    Very well done, nice and smooth. A joy to watch for an old glider pilot who learned on 1950s/60s gliders in the early 1980s in Germany. Assume slip landings are getting out of fashion with modern slim fuselage planes.

      They did great. That slip landing was for a commercial rating and were part of a no-altimeter, no airbrake landing. Thos old gliders you flew are a real joy, our club has schweizer gliders from the 60s 70s and they are a blast to fly ;)

    Beautiful footage! I sure hate to see those low turns from base to final. A longer, higher stabilized final is much safer.

    The Ka6 and Ka7 are very old gliders. I myself had my first lessons on the Rhone Lerge, which was another glider from the 1950s. Then on the Blanic where I flew my first solo and then Ka8, Ka7, Ka8, Twin Astir, Club Astir. Nice of you to show those old gliders here again, I look at them with nostalgia. I subscribe and hope for more of this.

    • @johngallagher912
      @johngallagher912 Год назад

      There are no Ka6 or Ka7 in this video. The red glider landing is a Schweitzer 1-26 and the two seater being towed is a Schweitzer 2-33. These are old US gliders from the '70s.

    When I was up in the 103, I hit that same thermal. I thought it was too small to stay centered in. Maybe the 1-26 would've done better.

    I love the drone footage. And I love that you're using a C-150 to tow. I've heard about it being done but I've never seen it and I would have guessed that it would have been pretty difficult with a two-place glider. Only possible in flat Ohio? Thanx for posting!

      Hey thanks so much! So both the club towplanes are 150s with bigger engines than stock. I think they're 150HP.

      @@centralohiosoaringassociat8646 ah, that makes sense. A 150 HP 150 would be perfect for the job. The drone footage is really good. Hope you keep it up! I want to see more.
