Paja | Composer & Pianist

Hello! I'm Paja (Pavle Cajic), I'm a composer 🎶 & pianist 🎹. Subscribe to hear my original music, piano transcriptions, covers, performances, and collabs ✨ 💫 🌏
Bukhu Ganburged and Pavle Cajic: Mongolian horsehead fiddle, throat singing and piano improvisation.
I got a very special chance to play with Bukhu Ganburged last year in Sydney in a small house concert. Bukhu's stunning morin khuur (Mongolian horsehead fiddle) playing and singing (both 'vocal' and 'throat') are so evocative and moving. Here we improvise a piece together. I imagined wide expanses of endless landscape and wild, galloping horses. A very special memory.

Paja plays Kapustin: Suite in the Old Style (Allemande)

Ever since one of my favourite living composers Nikolai Kapustin passed away in 2020, I’ve been wanting to do a tribute to him… and belated though it is, playing his music in the past few years has brought so much joy into my life, so I’m sharing a small piece with you now. This is the Allemande from his ‘Suite in the Old Style’, a wondrous union of baroque counterpoint with jazz rhythm, harmon...

Wednesday Addams' dream dance music?

If you’ve seen Wednesday, then you’ll know how much she loves playing passionate melodies on her cello late at night. When I saw Wednesday’s dance, I thought … what would Wednesday REALLY like to dance to? Well, here’s my take on what Wednesday may be dancing to in 2023 - I wrote Concerto Grosso last year for string orchestra and matched up her dance to a particularly fun part in the 1st moveme...

Sky Prelude (flute and piano) - Pavle Cajic

I’m excited to share one of the many little projects I’ve been working on during lockdown (and post-lockdown)! I wanted to write some short preludes for various instruments along with piano, to be recorded ‘in isolation’, as was the spirit of the times. I asked my old friend and wonderful flautist Toni Berg to give me a little stimulus for a short flute piece, and she sent me her impressions of...

Easing my Heart 遣怀 by Du Mu 杜牧 - P. Cajic/T. Woods

A while ago, Tom Woods sent me a recording of him singing the poem 'Easing my Heart' (遣怀) by Chinese Tang Dynasty poet Du Mu (杜牧) using a tune he had invented. We agreed that I'd write out a piano part to accompany his melody, and this is the result! Enjoy this collaborative Lied :) Easing my Heart By river and lake at odds with life I journeyed, wine my freight. Slim waists of Ch'u broke my he...
'In Paradise' (after Nabokov) - Pavle Cajic
Просмотров 4605 лет назад
When I read this magnificent poem in a Nabokov poetry collection, I had an irresistible urge to set it to music. In Paradise My soul, beyond distant death your image I see like this: a provincial naturalist, an eccentric lost in paradise. There, in a glade, a wild angel slumbers, a semi-pavonian creature. Poke at it curiously with your green umbrella, speculating how, first of all, you will wri...
Winter, Heartache and Transfiguration (tone poem for solo violin and orchestra) - Pavle Cajic
Просмотров 1935 лет назад
WHT is a tone poem for solo violin and orchestra written in 2014 and revised in 2017. I imagine a protagonist (solo violin) lost in a desolate, snowy winter, struggling to overcome their desolation. The first section sets the scene and tells the wintery story; then follows a rousing call to action, like a sudden thunderstorm (the entry of percussion); a struggle (the fugue); a memory of distant...

nice tribute
glad you enjoyed it :)
Love this! When I hear music, my mind often makes up weird pictures/scenes to go with them. This time, it seems to have thought up a deer with its feet stuck in buckets. It starts out a little confused and amused by the situation, then becomes progressively more serious about getting its feet out, until it's trying really hard at the end and then falls over. It's also in a bright meadow with trees and sunshine around!
Wow, thanks for sharing!!
Hello! Can you check the mail? Thank you. Have a great summer☺️
that’s amazing! did you arrange it? if its not a problem, could I get the sheet music ? I appreciate your prompt response.
Good 👍
Unbelievable! To think you have done all this on just 4 pianos
4 pianos?? That's an extravagence!!!! but thank you :))
@@PavleCajic my bad it was two pianos. But still amazing!
Gustave Mahler man.i like him too.
Yes, and I suppose the key of F major is no coincidence either!
Outstanding Comrade! Aware of Lenin Medal in grade of hammer and sickle.
A beautiful piece - fine example of the variation form
Noice pavle
This is incredible. An astoundingly faithful transcription.
I believe Shostakovich made it himself
Excellent!
Gorgeous!
Incredible!! excellent presentation, I loved the arrangement for 2 pianos, please, I would like to get the score

1人とか、2人とかでは不可能なピアノの響きというのは、何故こうも刺激的に聴こえるのだろう。 オケよりも楽しいかもしれない。
Impressive! I'm surprised that the roof didn't fly off.
Thank you!
WOW
Most definitely thumb up.
Wonderful performance! Bravo!
5:16 It's so funny that the flute part here could be played by a 3rd grader and then the pianist is dying with all the octaves in the left hand
Sounds like beethoven symphony 7
Oh hello :)
Thank you for the good performance. Did you arrange it yourself? I'd like to get a sheet music, please, where can I buy it?
박소연 please send me an email
Hi! Thank u for thé performance, it was amazing ! Can i get sheet music too ? My email is favre_juan@hotmail.com
@@PavleCajicIs it possible to purchase your great arrangement?
I have a CD where Shostakovitch himself plays this with another guy.
What's the name of that CD?
The ‘other guy’ is Mieczyslaw Weinberg, a dear friend of Shostakovich and a wonderful composer in his own right. You can find the recording on Spotify
Please invite one snare drum and one timpani
That would be so riveting! !
Why does this sound like it was just meant to be??
I am also looking forward to it!
The score is now available for purchase here: www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/21664628
Hello, this is just wonderful! Have you finished 1st mvmt yet?

@@PavleCajic Nice looking forward to it!

@@PromixDelPiero Sorry, I had this vision that I would record it before I released the score, but other things kept getting in the way so I still haven't! But I have released the score now... you can get it here: www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/21664628 After my current commitments end in March I will get straight to the matter of recording it...
This is tops. Loving the vocals and the expressions. It shows how much you love music and really represents true talent!
I think she got it wrong at 4:16
Shostakovich would be happy to hear this.
Where can we get a copy of this arrangement? Love it!

Impressive dynamic control!!!
Impressive!!
I came to this video for a big reason. on my music score I am missing a measure, and on this score it is missing too on the key change in minute 6:00. check it out. 2 measures before the repeat line. On this recording they don't play the repetition so we have to jump right to the 2nd ending of that variation. but there is a measure missing before then. right on 6:16 is the measure that is not writen.
Hi there. There is indeed a missing bar; we actually added in the missing bar, by playing bar 21 (of that variation) twice. However. it is absent on the score. We didn't play any repeats as the piece would have been too long for this recital.
Pavle Cajic do you guys know where I can get the complete score?
I do not know of a version without the missing bar, I assume there was a mistake in the original edition, perhaps... although it might exist. I just do not know about it personally! They did make an editorial note about it in our edition.
A note in the Henle edition says that, according to the manuscript of the piece, "Schubert himself first planned a literal repetition of the preceding bar... only to delete it and replace it with the present (7-bar) variant. This mitigates against changing the text so as to balance the periodic structure."
😲@@Dodecatone crucial information. Thanks a lot!
Mesmerising. Brilliant interplay between flute and piano to construct the bittersweet narrative. One clearly discerns the plaintive cry of the wanderer and the consoling playfulness of the babbling brook, giving him hope. The best exposition of the piece through the medium of the Emajor and Eminor tonal centres, with the chromaticism mimicking the gentle waves and the tiny trouts at play. Well wicked. Thank you both.
Thank you so much for listening and we're glad you enjoyed it :)
