Garden Obsessed
Добавлен 24 янв 2021
It all started with a potted pepper plant in 2016! Since then my garden has steadily grown. I don’t own a farm or a homestead (though a girl can dream), but a gardener’s gotta grow! I consume every video I can about gardening (not to mention books, magazines, podcasts etc.) If you find yourself a little “Garden Obsessed” too, I hope you find some content here on my channel to feed the beast!

Closet to PANTRY Conversion! Beginner Friendly DIY
Просмотров 5962 месяца назад
Hello All! I finally decided enough was enough and our food preservation supplies needed their own dedicated space! So we converted a closet into a canning pantry. This was super simple almost no build (some assembly required) that is very beginner friendly. As priorities change in our lives, so should our spaces too right?! Hope you like this one… won’t lie… Jaret has caught me more than once ...

Hello All! It’s week 3 of the Three Rivers #everybitcountschallenge ! Heading into the home stretch! I’m feeling the “challenge” this week. We by no means grow and preserve a significant portion of our food for the year, and just the boys we do, can be exhausting on top of all of life’s other tasks and appointments and “stuff”. Kudos to all the homesteaders and pantry masters who do put up a la...
How to Revitalize Petunias for More Flowers and keep them Looking LUSH!
Просмотров 552 месяца назад
Hello All! I love having pots and hanging baskets around the house for pops of summer color! Petunias are one of my favourites because they pack such a punch and can be so much more economical than other options. There are also endless colours to choose from and more released every year it seems! One of the downsides to petunias is they can get a little leggy and haggard looking as the summer g...

Do you have a guide or any tips on how to transplant cannabis from aerogarden to soil? Thanks!
Been growing a while but looking to move to perpetual but I’ve got very limited space. This is exactly what I was looking for thank you!
Very nice video!
Thank you 🥰
I am Diabetic also and I like Good Earth Sweet & Spicy tea bags
Oooh, I will check those out! Thank you!!
I love pumpkin, I don't love pumpkin spice coffee that you can buy. I do love my homemade pumpkin spice coffee. I just brew coffee, froth pumpkin pie spice (from the Bulk Barn) in my cream and a stevia and add that to my coffee. Using heavy cream is even nicer. lol Enjoy early Thanksgiving!! Thank you for the update.
Well I may have to give that pumpkin pie spice trick a try! I do like it as a special fall treat, just not my everyday cuppa 😉 I’m sure Thanksgiving will be just as wonderful even though we’re doing it early… I love when we’re all together ❤️
Can you tell me how I might be able to join that? Seed swap, because i'm new to gardening, and I have a lot of seeds, but I would like to have a bigger variety. ❤❤ plus I just love stuff like that
If you search Facebook groups and Instagram, you will find all kinds of swaps to participate in. This swap has a wait list and has been closed for several years, but I know there are others out there! Good luck!
I love the Harvest Loaves because you use what ever fruit or vegetables you have on hand. Hellllooooooo!!
Oh sorry, I couldn’t figure out how to send you a picture😢
Thanks for trying! I would love to see!!
YY!! I’m all for using what you have and as you grow you’ll figure out new spaces as I did. You can fit those rolling under bed storage and store canned goods there. I also use a guest room closet and just put a shelf on one side. If you’re as old as I am you have way too many clothes so purging your closet helps create space and I put lots of shelves in my garage because we never park our car there. It’s just too short for our large car or truck. I’ll send a picture!!❤❤
Wonderful ideas! Thank you so much! Definitely a few growing pains over the years. I was single when I built this house 11-12 years ago… so there has been a lot of “re-arranging” over the years!
Its so nice to find extra storage space; order new stuff for it and get organized!
It feels so good!!
Why didn’t you just add more shelves like the top one?
I didn’t want to make any permanent changes. But that would be an option.
Great week!
Oh my goodness great sales!!! Carla I haven't canned before what would be the basics for a beginner? What would we need to get started. Short video maybe? Thanks!!
That’s a wonderful idea Rose!! I’ll definitely get a video in the works! Thank you! 🙏🏻 🌱
@@gardenobsessed if I am not sure where to start or what to buy for a beginner, I am sure there are a lot of people needing this info.
Absolutely, it can be intimidating with all there is to know for sure! I am definitely going to get a video together! Thank you so much for the awesome idea! ❤️

You must get dog hair in the dehydrator
When I said I loved reading everyone’s comments, I meant everyone else’s… I get enough of your sass at home! 😉😘 love you babe ❤️
Well done Carla!
Thank you!
Beautiful harvest! Great accomplishments this week! I make beef jerky all the time. Eye of Round works best, and yes, always trim as much of the fat off as you possibly can. A serrated knife works best also. I use low sodium soy sauce (Yamasa brand), brown sugar, and liquid smoke and then pepper it well when I put it on the dehydrator trays. Also, I pour the marinade into a Ziploc bag and add the slices as I cut them, and then put it in the fridge for 24 hours, turning the bag about 4 times during that period. It's best to have a lot more marinade and I never pat it dry - I want all of that marinade flavor on the meat. A dehydrator is the way to go. Even the cheapest Nesco dehydrator will do a better job than the oven.
Thank you so much! I do have a dehydrator, I just wasn’t quite sure I trusted it with meat! But I’ll give it a try for sure! Thanks for the tips! Much appreciated ❤️🌱
I’m jealous of your zucchini success! Having the hardest time getting anything :/ We love zucchini quiche! (In a pinch we use a crustless bisquick version). Also big fans of zucchini chocolate cake, and zucchini carrot muffins
Oooohhh… I didn’t think of Chocolate zucchini cake!! Gotta add that to the list! Honestly, I’ve never understood all the jokes about leaving zucchini’s on neighbours doorsteps, but this year… I get it! Keep trying, one of these days you’ll be swimming in zucchini too!
Great video! So many people don't know how to look after petunias. lol
Thank you!! I know I didn’t know when I first started! They are kind of amazing!
@@gardenobsessed I tell people to pinch them back all the time. I shared your video for proof. hahaha

Hey, Carla! Great tips!
Thank you! 🌱
Impressive!
Thank you! 🌱
First, how did I miss part 1? lol Is my cilantro still going to be good if it has been setting flowers? I have never grown it before. Thanks for the yummy video.
Good news about cilantro is that if you miss the cilantro and it goes to seed, you have coriander!!
@@gardenobsessed I grew san marzanos this year. I was going to try salsa this year. :)
@@rosemacdougall2967 they are my favourite for salsa!! And larger than plums, so I feel like less work too
Those fat & sassy peppers look great!
Thanks, I totally got sucked in by the name! 😉
Beautiful blooms! I’m only growing a few dahlias, but I’d recommend ‘Great Silence’. It was much earlier than my other dahlias and has so many blooms. Seems to be a popular variety in the UK at least.
Thank you so much! I just looked up Great Silence and it’s so beautiful! Totally up my color alley too! Thank you for the recommendation 🌱❤️
Excited to see the rest!!
Those arrangements are really lovely 😍
Thank you!! ❤️🌱
Great job prepping and getting things done 🙂
Thanks 😊
I’m so glad your dahlias are doing so well. Here in SoCal with 106 F temps mine are stunted and suffering. I did have some great blooms from Kelvin Floodlight. Arabian Night. Linda’s Baby. Bashful. Wizard of Oz. All before the heat wave hit. Not my best season. Shade cloth is my friend.
Oh no! I hope the weather cooperates for the rest of the season and they bounce back for you!! 🌱
Fantastic update Carla. Sounds like you've been having lots of fun. Congrats to your stepson winning bronze. For sure football can be hectic and busy. My 3 nephews were huge into football and my brother and sister in law were in constant motion with all that x 3, lol. Nice harvest and garden is looking lush 🙂The weeds are never done, lol. Have fun in NB (my neck of the woods, lol).
I’m loving the football! (Though struggling with all of the rules!) I don’t know how your brother and SIL managed 3!! I always love our time in NB ❤️ Jaret is from the St Stephen area, so we will play tourists and enjoy some time with his family!
Welcome back Carla. Love your veggie garden especially the peppers and tomatoes.
Aww thank you!! I’m hoping for mountains of peppers this year!! Last year with all the rain in June, they definitely under performed!
Good to see you Carla! Your veggies look amazing. I planted sooo late but things are booming with this heat. Stay cool!
If you’re gonna plant late, I think this is the year to do it!! Things are so advanced this year!
How about making a pond and planting water spinach... the pond can be filled with fish
I wouldn’t be allowed at the community garden, but possibly at home down the road!
The foil over the domes great idea!
Ty! 🌱
I love DE. lol Thanks for the update Carla.
I should buy stock in DE!! 😂 it’s all that’s getting me through the earwigs!!
What fertilizer are you using ?
@@yasmynechanel the Aerogarden brand as well as some cal-mag added. I pre mix and top up with the pre mixed solution. Happy Growing!
Great to know what to look for 👍
What size canner? I don’t know if I should get the 16 or 23 qt.
Mine is the 16 qt. I do wish I had a larger one but I also have a glass top stove and didn’t want to risk a heavier canner!
On my two days off this week I was away so this week I will plant. Later than I had hoped but earlier than last year. lol Thanks for sharing Carla!!
Same! I think it was mid July last year until I had everything in! Happy planting! 🌱
Great progress and hard work. Things are looking great 🙂
Thank you!! 🌱
Thanks for the update Carla
I wish they had community gardens like this where I live. Do you also grow stuff at home?
Yes absolutely! I have raised beds at home just over 500 square feet and a few in ground spaces at home as well. Check out some of my garden tours!
My water reservoir is white with Clear window, do i need to black out it?
Only if you develop an algae issue, otherwise I don’t think you would need to. Good luck! 🌱
@@gardenobsessed thank you!!
How wet did you keep the sponges at this stage?
@@fade2blak91 I just put them in the baskets as is. Stay fairly saturated as sponges are about half in and half out of water.
Though the greenstalk seen pricey if bought through a supplier in Canada you will find that by the time you pay shipping to have them shipped from Tennessee it works out to about the same price as the place I buy them here in Canada ships for free. Shipping from the USA is expensive.
Yes, I checked out both options for sure! Depending on sales and discounts, at times it may be cheaper to order direct from the US. When I got mine, it was cheaper to pay the higher price from the Canadian supplier once shipping was factored in. But I’m extremely happy with mine, very glad I splurged!! 🌱
Happy Carla Day!! Hope your special day was wonderful!! Picking flowers, dinner out, bingo and more family time, sounds like a recipe for a fantastic birthday weekend!!
