4 Words That Changed This Artist’s Life (and Could Change Yours)
Have you ever had a moment of magic so perfect it could only be orchestrated by the universe?
I want to share a story with you - one that began with a barefoot teacher, a terrified young artist, and four simple words scribbled in a yearbook.
What happened next took decades to unfold, but when it did...
Let's just say some encounters are too extraordinary to be coincidence.
For anyone who's ever felt like an outsider in the art world, who's struggled to find their place or their voice - this story might just be your sign.
It could be the sign you've been waiting for.

Thank you so much, Randy. I'll treasure your words.
Good one Crista! I think Elizabeth Gilbert mentioned this in her book, Big Magic. Thanks for the reminder. Hope 2025 is a fantastic year for you. We are still dreaming of your neighborhood....will keep you posted. Happy new year. xox
I hope to see you here again this year! Your visit was a special memory. x
Thank You Crista for those inspiring words!❤
I appreciate you - and am wishing you the best for 2025!
@@CristaCloutier Thank You Christa! Best wishes to you too for 2025!
Having multiple sources of income from my art.
Excellent! What's your plan to get there?
@@CristaCloutier don't have one because I have everything I need but overwhelmed by the scope of knowing what I want and not knowing how to do it. Eg. Technology
That’s a very touching story - inspirational ❤
I'm so glad that it spoke you - thank you!
My 4th grade teacher started my art career. I'm eternally grateful. Mrs. Barnett.
Okay, this is strange but it speaks to the magic in my story when I met Mr. Henschen. Because the minute I saw your comment, I received an email from someone named Mr. Barnett, Seriously!
@CristaCloutier love the synchronicity. Hope it was good news.
@@123gp1833 It was a thank you for my work - but I think it was Mrs. Barnett sending a thank you message to you.
@@CristaCloutier OMG I didn't think of that. I am crying. I will pray for her. Thank you for the message.

God bless the art teachers because they allow us to be different and to be understood.
Amen to that!
probably the best art advice video Ive seen. thank you
That's probably the nicest thing I've heard all day. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your pearls of wisdom. I just wrote down the 5 things I can do to support my creativity and realize that I have been investing much more than that in myself and my creative life. 2025 looks good!
I can't wait to watch you soar!
I had never understood Agency until i heard your video. I have come to think of it like a Rumba vacuum cleaner... it just keeps moving, bouncing off obstacles, turning and moving in new directions until the job is done or it needs a recharge. Creative persistence.... Can Do attitude.... We need more of this in life also.
I love that vision! We do indeed need more of this. May the new year bring you plenty!
Thank you for uploading this video, I am a musician and most of my family doesn't see it as a possible outcome for me to be successful in society.
Let them have their stories as you write your own - with nothing to prove,
Build a career as an artist? $$$$ is NOT art!
Exactly. Selling art is about marketing. But selling art is not selling out.
@CristaCloutier That's correct. Damian Hirst can't even draw but he makes loads a money. No thanks! Anyone may buy my art but I'm too busy being an artist and dealing with aesthetic ms et al to waste my time and life marketing, advertising, propagandists, etc. How much caviar and bubbly can Musk shove down his stupid gullet? I wouldn't touch a Tesla with doG's finger!
@@CristaCloutier PS. Are you up for a meeting face-to-face? I'm a San Franciscan in London.
@@mozartsbumbumsrus7750 I was just in London! I hosted an Artist Tea. I may do it again in March. Are you on my mailing list? I'd love to invite you if I host another one.
Where are the Medicis?
As an artist, I stay away from the art world. Galleries are not interested in art or artists. A business is capitalist and ONLY EXISTS FOR PROFIT. You don't mention Vincent!
I never met him!
@CristaCloutier Who, Vincent? I never met him, either, except in and through his art as one who understands and lives his "marks".
beautiful 🩵
grateful ♡
A TRUE artist doesn’t need or want to a "hit". Yes, support artists!
Love this advice!
I'm so pleased! Thank you for watching.
You predent so well an it makes sense too. Tx
Thank you - that's nice to hear. (or read)
I'm wondering if its a good idea to get an art agent or not. I'd like my work exhibited in n. Y., & appraised but all doors are closed in better galleries. " you have to know someone" no one will even look at your work, unless they are offering something to sell you. But I've also heard about thier percentage of sales, + the galleries..then there are taxes & material, travel, ect..or is a website, internet a better option? I've no idea, & other artists are difficult to talk too.
Great question - first of all, do you know an artist agent? There are precious few of them and most work strictly with established artists. It's true that the art landscape is confusing. The thing is - there is no blanket "right answer," There's only what's right for you and your art. Every artist should have a website - whether they sell online or not. But if you sell online, you need to be online and work online... so there are benefits and drawbacks to each. Out of curiousity, have you checked out my course? I walk artists through all of these scenarios and help you to decide. theworkingartist.com/program/
@CristaCloutier t.y. for responding. I've enough to start a website & internet for now. After retirement, I started back at canvas from commercial art. So it'll be what I can afford as I move ahead. Best of luck with your program..j B.

Choosing one makes sense since people always need to reduce what they do not understand into simpler units so that they can label it and then they believe they know it. So focusing on one is more for the market than for the artist if I understand correctly
Exactly. If it were up to us - we'd do it all.
The joy I get while painting, drawing, and graphic design is unexplainable. ❤
That's a great way to explain it!
I now I am an artist , But I hesitate to Call myself this to anyone. Usually its Other People’s who use the name about me ,if they ar interested in art at all 😊😉
I don't believe that other people shpuld have the power to define me. I define me.

I'm checking on you! Have you been enjoying the whole journey these past few weeks? How can you enjoy it more?
You speak in prose. Nice to listen to. I do
Thank you! I appreciate that. And I'm glad you do call yourself an artist.

Succint and powerful video. Thank you.
I appreciate your kind words. Thank you!
No I disagree.
Great! Tell me more! I would love your thoughts on this.
ME I AM a great artist.
YES! I love to hear that.
Thank you for this. I use the word integrity in place of agency. We, as artists, work hard to focus, work diligently at our craft, and have this most unique perspective on any subject. We must stand with this principle of integrity, which is not an action; it is a gift to our spirit when we know our own worth and keep our healthy emotional boundries.❤
It's part of the lessons learned on this path...
At different ages I focused on one thing-out of the 3 eventual things i have done.. Later, I learned another genre and learned that. it is what I'm best at I believe. Now I am trying a new discipline, I'm not very good at it yet. So, I do it for relaxation and fun, and for the learning experience. but i still would like to focus on the middle thing, while learning the newest thing as a hobby.
That's a powerful system! I love it.
Isabell Samaras and Dali
Thank you, Crista! I have built my skills in Art for many years and years of practice and experience with alot of different Art materials. I am such a perfectionist, and I know, hard on myself... even though easy-going with others. While I am writing this I find it difficult to say "I am really good"! I have won awards and recognition when younger but it wasn't until retirement from teaching Art that I have been really honing my own skills. I have passion and a keen eye, but am now 70 years old. I guess I believe that is too old to market my work. I have said, "my family can market it and make money after I pass". I am lucky to just work in my small studio and enjoy my home of framed gallery worthy portraits and other statement expressional pieces that I like to look at myself! At times, another part of me says, "Why not me" ...if others that do not do as beautiful paintings as I have, can be confident and get thier Art work out in public domain...why not me? I have had one woman shows and earned my BFA and teaching certification with full ride merit scholarships. Benefactors even paid my way for a semester in Florence, Italy. I showed my work in a gallery near the Duomo. I wish I would have been more assertive when I was younger. Instead of any self promotion, I raised two children and taught others Art, but didn't have the confidence, I suppose, to take my portfolio to galleries. Now its more "online" to sell Art. I hope younger women (and men) will see your video and pursue a direction with passion and drive and with confidence to just get thier hard won expertise out there! Thank you again for your RUclips video that will help younger Artists! 🎉❤🎉
Why not you? Why not? You mention regrets from not doing it earlier - this is your time to write a new story!
