NZ Bush Adventures
Новая Зеландия
Добавлен 26 май 2021
Hi my name is Jon and I am a Kiwi tramper who loves the outdoors. I try to go for a day or over night tramp every weekend over the spring, summer and autumn. I am working my way through the Great Walks of New Zealand and section trekking the Te Araroa Trail. I'm also interested in outdoor equipment, walking for fitness, thru hiking, camping, fishing, MTB riding, vlogging, blogging and photography.
My tramping equipment- MSR Hubba Tent
I take a look at my MSR tent that I brought to replace my Big Agnes tent.
The tent is excellent for the role as it weighs just a little over 1 kg and is water proof to 1500 mm.

Where is that accessible from, the picnic camp area over there? Haven't been to Kaituna valley for 20 years and then only the picnic area, if it's in the same place. Don't ya love that kiwiiiiiii accent.
Shore do...
I like me the more savory than sweet treats for tramping.
Really love the minimalism- eat breakfast out of the plastic bag - no cleaning. Genius
Beautiful video. Thank you for sharing. subd and 👍8
Thank you too
Ta for video. Brings back some great memories of my 6 months in NZ some 20 years ago.
You're welcome
Jesus the gorse on that trail looks a bit menacing. I'd hate to trip and fall into that stuff it looks like it would hurt. Do you know what the trees they killed actually were, are they an invasive species?
Love that tuna like that it's a great protein boost while tramping.
It really is!
I like Quail Island but it wouldn't take much to make the place busy.
No. That happened on another track....
Cheers for the info. Looks like a beautiful track. I'm not sure if your a New Zealander or Australian but you should really put some respect and mana into your pronunciation. Quite embarrassing. Sorry for the criticism but just saying. Those beautiful places deserve some effort put into how you should say it. There is a purari river in Papua New Guinea. Maybe you mean Po ro ra ri. Cheers for sharing mate
Great video! How far into the walk is the first flat?
It's about 25 minutes
We are hoping to do this walk in a month or so, coming over from Wales. Very useful information, thanks for sharing.
Thanks guys...
😥 Hope your okay John. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Hope your okay. Take care
Guided huh, lol, Bet the guide jokes haven't improved, best job I ever had. Best way to do the Milford, I walked with them in March, and was guiding the following season.
Good to see you back on trail mate. Nice to watch queen Charlotte track section again as was a bit of a blur for me, as I did it in 2 days. You carrying on threw to the Richmonds?
Nice review. I went with the Trangia model. Did the pouch come with the lixada stove? Also what make is your watch? cheers
Good job. Track looks good.
Ahhh, the years do roll away! I cooked many a canteen cup meal during my time in Vietnam (66-67). We sometimes came across small VC rice dumps in those days and a bit of boiled rice mixed with the rather meagre (Aussie) 24 hour ration pack offerings could make a filling meal. I've heard of soldiers in later times ditching their hexi cookers in favour of gas canister stoves, but I wouldn't have been too keen to do that. The thought of a tracer round going through the old butt pack during a firefight (happened to me once) and hitting a gas canister doesn't bear thinking about! Good vdeo. Keep up the good work.
Can one wild camp in a tent on this track?
Yes you can....provided you are 200 meters away from the track you are allowed to camp just about anywhere on the Conservation estate....
*promo sm*
Take it you carry toilet paper and matches/lighter in a separate setup ?
Is that one named after Samuel Manson or someone else?
No that is one named after victims of a landslide
Good to see you back up and tramping. You be careful out there on your own. That's a max load of ten people or three Moake brothers.
Right you are...
👍 Good job on the video!
Thanks for the visit
Glad to see you're doing better! Much love from the UK :) <3
Thanks
So good to see that you're tramping again :)
Managed to get out last weekend...
All the best with your recovery. Enjoy both your blog and videos. Look foward to more in the future.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for filming this. I’m booked to do this walk (first ever time on any multi day hike) and this was so helpful.
Are water purification tabs better then just boiling the water?
Just another means to produce clean water
I’m a 40 year old guy new to NZ from South Africa an have been wanting to get out there but always procrastinating to go on my own…😄 but you inspire me.. thanks for the videos!
Your welcome
Great video thanks.. Is a person allowed to camp inside a tent on the grass outside the hut?
Yes, absolutely
did you take the burger patties in frozen? How did you keep them cool if not
If they are frozen when you carry them in they slowly thaw over the course of the day
Prayers for a blessed recovery Jon so enjoyed watching your Very helpful Lake Danielle track My daughter friends of mine and I ended up doing this beautiful walk 💖🌞🕊🌳
Thanks for listening
Do you bring an ice pack if you're bringing cheese or do you take a certain type of cheese so it doesn't go off in your pack?
I sonetime carried ice packs
shifting sand transfer requires water currents from storms etc. not heat from global warming
Watched many of your videos, wishing you a fast and complete recovery.
Thank you so much!
HI mate...one year on since you posted this video, do you notice any down coming out from the jacket. I am asking this as I have a Kathmandu light down jacket and I am seeing down escaping from the jacket. Probably it passes through the stiching area. I am considering a Macpac brand now. Cheers
Not much. Its quite a good jacket
I never bother with ration packs, I just pack up some oatmeal for breakfast, pasta and dehydrated vacuum sealed meat and pasta for my trips. One thing I've always carried on me is a 6-part spice shaker with lids that after using up all the spices I can fill with whatever I want, so for me salt, sugar, pepper, chili powder, paprika spice and cinnamon. Carrying a bunch of sachets of salt and sugar just means small trash you need to hang onto. Was especially handy back in scout summer camps some extra spice was essential to get some flavor into the dull food, but with pre flavored packaged meals maybe not as essential. No idea how I stumbled upon this video but greetings from Finland :)
Thanks that is fine. I always carry ration packs.
All the best for a speedy recovery. I enjoy your videos
Thank you
All the best Jon to your recovery, take care
Cheers
Speedy recovery
Take your time getting back Jon. Best of luck.
My father has just had a minor stroke also , all the best for your health and recovery Jon.
Thanks
Best of luck with your recovery Jon, fingers crossed for the Milford!
Cheers thanks for that.
Loved this video mate.. made me feel like I was there!
Glad to hear it!
@@nzbushadventures yeah.. family and I are looking to emigrate from Liverpool, I'm really drawn to the Nelson region. Do you live in that region? If so, I would love to see more videos about what it's like to live there, especially what is on offer for a young family.
No Im from Christcurch but its my long held wish to move to Nelson. It is central to so much id like..@@cowardly3348
Good to see you back again.
How military can you get? When i was a boy in the 80's or 70's, I thought how hilarious English folk do things, I have English heritage...this is a reheating video. the product cannot cook.
I thought I would cuck some solid fuel videos in for all times sake....
