I don't understand the accumulative mark of all your modules must be 50 in order to pass. So even if you failed one of your modules but get an accumulative mark for all your modules at 50 % ,you pass your year?

This is my case. I am a student of BSc in Applied Mathematics and Statistics at UKZN. In my first year, I failed Physics (PHYS114W2). Luckily I passed at a low academic average .Now I am doing my second year; I had big plans to improve my academics. Suddenly I suffered a mental breakdown and couldn't cope. Now it's May and I'm worried that I could fail one of my majors(MATH). Am I going to be expelled? I have a month to save my career wish me luck.

You did well in 2nd semester so your GPA couldn't have been 42 for first year.

This was my case. I was a student of BSC Computer Science.(also at Tuks) The first module I failed was a subject called, Introduction to Computer Science(COS 151)You can imagine how demoralized I was after literally failing an intro module to a degree. That module was the prerequisite for all my modules in year 2 and most modules in the 2nd semester. So I was destined to fail the 1st year before the 1st semester even ended. But evening knowing this, I moved forward to finish the year, completing the modules I could do . I failed the year and made the choice to try again. I sent an appeal to redo the whole year, they accepted(probably seeing me try despite terrible odds) That was in 2018, in 2019 with a fresh start and experience of failure. The same modules I failed, I got distinctions for. Now I’m in my 2nd year of my BSC,(3rd year at Tuks) I am still struggling at some modules, it’s painful 😣, but I keep pushing forward. If there is one thing I’ve learnt from University. It is this. “If you are prepared to succeed at something, you must also be prepared to fail at it” *Update* _2020_ Covid-19 disrupted the year and the workflow of modules, despite this, I managed to pass all the modules from that year. _2021_ I miss being able to go to University and see friends, it was one of few things that made me enjoy going there. Im Currently now learning the difficulties of being a true Software Engineer, lots of interesting problems and challenges. If all goes well, this could be my last year. _2022_ I have now graduated, and currently working as a Frontend software developer ;) _2024_ Still working there, very satisfied with it still. Continuously learning new software. 👍
