10:43 it really depends on your playthrough tho. I've listened to all Narrator lines from when you talk to him for the last time and his attitude changes depending on how many princesses you've saved or killed(my guess). There's also an alternative line where he says that with resignation rather than hatred. In general it looks like there are 2 or 3 different voice lines for each line - he sounds: determined, angry or despondent/disappointed. Nonetheless, it is hard to disagree that the Narrator does not treat the Long Quiet in the best way.

I was always fascinated by just how stagnant Narrator is. No matter what you say or do, he stays the same. Sure sometimes he decides that Quiet is lost cause and stops speaking resignated, but he never truly changes in the world that doesn't stay the same even for a moment. That is why Happily Ever After hit me so hard, the only time Narrator doubted himself and his vision. It is one of the reasons this is my favorite ending

I think it's interesting that in one route, in the "Happily ever after" route, after you had spent the eternity with the princess eating the most delicious banquets over and over until you end up tasting nothing at all, playing the most fun and exciting games slightly changing the rules and adding new pieces every now and then to add more thrill to the game until the game was so boring and repetitive that it didn't bring any joy, and just spending all the time in the world next to the one you love until it's company doesn't make you feel anything at all. The narrator doesn't oppose to the idea of freeing the princess and ending the world, just saying "I'm tired" when he is questioned by the voice of the hero about why he isn't complaining about the freedom of the princess and the end of the world. I think that small version of the narrator that got to live and enjoy the world he wanted, learned that he was wrong

Any form of relationship is a prison. Love is the act of binding yourself, spiritually and psychologically, to another being. If you love someone, do you not then restrain and restrict yourself on their behalf? Does that not inherently come with responsibilities and rules you hold yourself to all in service to another? If the goal is to throw off all chains and break free of all prisons, that logically means even the prison of one's own love for another must also be destroyed. Ascend to godhood, and the day will come when Shifty will see her own attachment to you as another chain holding her down that must be broken. In a way, this parallels the Damsel and the Voice of the Smitten. Smitten claimed to love the Damsel, but in reality he coveted her. She wanted to go outside and dance under the stars; he wanted her locked into her chair so there was no chance of her leaving him. He became panicked and upset when it became more and more apparent that she was unhappy and miserable, trying ever harder to make her love being chained to him. Except she didn't. She didn't because it was never truly reciprocated. The Damsel was chained to Smitten, but he was not chained to her. He never humbled himself and dedicated his life to serve her, as he wanted her to do to him. And Shifty is now in the position of Smitten, "loving" someone to the point of coveting, not realizing that she is truly only thinking of herself and her own happiness. She wants you to ascend to godhood to give herself freedom, not because you necessarily want anything of the sort. She's using you and perhaps doesn't even realize it. I don't think her affection for you is fake, but I do see a relationship teetering dangerously in the one-sided direction. Love itself is a prison, but one that you must willingly subject yourself to. And in so doing, the "prison" can actually become the most joyful of homes. Not one where you are unaware of the nature of your prison, or even incapable of escaping it, but one that you refuse to leave for the sake of others. It's just a question of perspective. The one perspective that Shifty lacks.

I wish this was actually a thing, it would suit soooooooo well, especially in the possession parts where the long quiet gets to meet the other princess voices and, not to mention the second one when we could see the interactions between both of princess's and long dark's voices!

I'm jammin' here at 2:00 am on Christmas break. This is a good life.
