Is the HFXC the laser that we've been waiting for? A 4-in-1 unit that has high power and low entry price of $199, we'll see how it holds up during the first look.
Either way, I'm still mad they didn't name it the XK69.

Will a third bolt be the charm that this AKM needed? We go over the second repair that Palmetto State Armory completed on my PSAK-47 GF3. The XK68 IR - Wait for the Redesign (or just buy a Somogear)
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.9 месяцев назад
After begrudgingly paying $167 for a XK68 IR from SMSlaser, I dedicated some time to explore the LAM. However, my unit turned out to have some issues. Even if it had functioned flawlessly, I find the IR functionality lacking due to the absence of focus adjustment. This device reeks of a half-baked attempt to appeal to a larger part of the market, and needs to be redesigned to compete with the l...

Is it worth getting ?
@@j4lfaro_ I think it's a pretty great LAM for the price. If you have any issues SMSlaser is pretty good about getting your problems squared away. Thanks for watching!
It looks great!
@@P3t3rN9uy3n no, YOU are great!
size&weight reduces recoil. this thing must jump around a whole lot.
@@nickcook7408 perhaps in some amount. The slide recoil spring is stout, which helps a lot. Compared to my Sig P238 it shoots a little smoother, and that thing is a brick compared to the Bodyguard. Anyways, thanks for watching!
it’s a .380 so it honestly shoots much better than the p365 too despite being much smaller
@dj6P5U ^ can confirm
I want one
go check it out at your LGS!
How much larger or smaller is this compared to the somogear Peq15?
@@sethestrada-miller5605 it's heavier than a somogear PEQ, but slightly smaller footprint. Working on a comparison video rn, hopefully will have it out by Christmas.
Kinda kicking myself for not getting that black friday deal. Looking forward to tge reviews
@@allseeingI5 SMS is continually improving the HFXC, you can follow the progress on their Instagram page. Hey the price went up, but you'll get a better laser! Use code "nicky" for 5% off if you end up wanting to buy it. Thanks for watching!
These are just hype. If you shoot with a suppressor, these things are done for.
Mine has been fine with a suppressor, but I guess your mileage will vary. Is it fouling up with gas or something?
@ absolutely lol, plus the plastic feels super cheap and bendy. But it looks cool so 🤷🏾♂️
@navrhy3075 I agree with ya on the bendy part. Wouldn't want to rely on it in a combat setting. Anyways sorry to hear about the suppressed issues, hopefully they can make improvements. Thanks for watching!
I get ads for this thing daily bc of your videos lol. Hopefully this one is a massive improvement from previous generations
@@reddxavier2103 sorry for the AD targeting haha. It's looking great so far with some awesome output levels. It's going to give somogear a run for their money for sure.
I love the halo 3 soundtrack in the background
Ripping off Focustripp one video at a time. Thanks for watching!
Walkers feel loose like they aren’t fully sealing my ears any tips on how I can fix that?
You can bend the support arms more inwards towards your face if your comfortable with doing that. Just make sure to keep the length of metal that goes into the headphone straight.
does the length of the wire inhibit rotating the earmuffs to the back of the helmet?
Mine are able to rotate back, but it's at the limit before putting strain on the headphone cable. You may have to change the cable routing in your helmet to get more slack.
Tough decision, to play with the somo gear ngal or this 🤔
Both are probably glass cannons, but SMS's warranty process has been smooth for me so far.
I finally got mine today! Freaking solid!!
@@joshmcguffeyjhfseo5247 awesome, get out there and shoot 😎

congrats man! Have fun with it and make sure to get a LAM!
Thanks, good info
Does this model come with a tape switch? Doesn't seem to. Can you please give an example of one that's compatible with this model? I heard you say "Crane plug" but I am new to these. Thank you
@@SwirlyBeard2 as far as I know, it will not come with a tape switch. Crane plugs are used with the PEQ 15s, along with a lot of the "legit" LAMs such as DBALs. You can get knockoff crane plug switches pretty much anywhere, but good quality switches can be found from modlite (which somogear copied), or unity switches.
@nickydickyvids Awesome! Thanks for the info
For price per mag, I'll stick with Lancer mags for now.
What I like is that SMS has actually been listening to their customers. I’m sorta hopeful for this product to be out of vanilla stages
look at their I G. It has some a illuminator dirt issue but they’re still fixing em. It’s definitely something to keep an eye on.
If you want to test co-alignment, zero your visible laser to your optic at some distance like 200-300m, and then check your IR aiming laser under NODs with your optic. It won't be precise, but it'll give you a good idea if it's anywhere near aligned properly.
@@han6211 you're right that's a great way to test co alignment. I don't have a range that's open past dark though, so I'll have to figure out how to aim a rifle somewhere to distance at night haha
I had to send mines back. It just arrived at their location. Under 1000 rounds
@@alvinperlas what happened?
@@nickydickyvids Failure to extract, it chewed up the TulAmmo where it grabs the round. "Headspace issue??" I didn't have the cleaning rod on me at the time, I could of just knocked it out. But I chose to use the warranty.
@@alvinperlas That sucks for sure. There's a good chance they'll take care of ya. The second repair is holding up for me so far, we'll see lol
Can you do a video/short describing the functions? I’m wondering if the illuminator and ir laser can function at the same time.
@@ScootinSilvia pretty sure it does, SMSlaser's shows the function on the selector. The prototype's selector I had was not programmed in its final state, so I didn't have all functionality yet.
@@nickydickyvidssadly they just delayed their shipment times again. And are only sending out a very small number of units for people who preordered on day one, I feel bad for the first day preorders because they’ll probably have subpar illuminators that get dirt in them. And I feel even worse for every other one of us who preordered them after day one because I doubt all of the “mass production” units they’ll be sending out to people who preordered after day one will be potted as well as the one shown on their Instagram page.
I keep seeing great reviews on the Votatu 840.
@@ms9404 focusTripp did a video on it already if you're interested. Long story short it has a few quirks that doesn't make sense, like the laser takes a second to turn after you press the switch. That alone makes it useless for quick low ready drills, for me anyway.
Why is it offset if it's a true 4in1 that doesn't need to be paired with a separate visible light?
@@herbderbler1585 good question, you're correct that you don't need a vis light. I assumed that they were putting the lasers in line with the pic rail.
@@nickydickyvids ah, that does make sense. No one wants a lopsided laser.
Hope they improved on the rubber actuator switch.
same haha, we'll see
Why Chinese manufacturers make short press a toggle ON?! Who though this is a good idea? NOBODY FUCKING WANTS THAT! Make it toggle ON when double tapped. I think only Laserspeed made it right in china.
Aliexpress, Walmart, and certain Amazon dealers do sell compatible 18500 batteries but... I rather not take my chances.
For sure, there's many places to find 18500 batteries. In the video I was referencing the specific battery that was shipped. Can't find any specifications that show discharge rate, testing, etc. Hopefully it's not a generic trash special from alibaba.
Just buy Japanese 18650 like Sanyo, Panasonic or Sony. Whole world uses it for years but Americans for some reason are still in 1980 and use disposables
@@Shimitzu 18650's will not fit in the HFXC
Any idea about what the weight will be on the production models?
No idea, but shouldn't be too far off the 8.2 ounces for the prototype sample. lol you don't have to delete your comment, let me know what section the music was from and I can make sure not to use it.
@@nickydickyvids Ah sorry. I thought better of it and decided that a comment directed at you was better used to discuss the item, not nitpicks of your video.

@@nickydickyvids Thanks for taking the time to provide some good information. Keep it up!
You really needed to display the illuminator at low power max flood and max beam. High power looked fantastic, but I don't run HP modes often. Also if it addressed battery life on LP mode.
@@John_Prophet I'm doing a full night comparison with the somogear and some other units when I get a production unit. I didn't have time to set it up before the HFXC was released.

They need to get one of these in my hands .,,I bought 5 of their old units I'm the guy that beats the snot outta these lams ... what is the specs on IR laser power ???? IR illuminator power ???
The specs are on their website, but can't verify the levels. If the specs are true, it's definitely above the FCC limits lol.
Yaaaaay they went with a bastard battery type ....splendid move
They clowning on us tbh
@@nickydickyvids Im gonna go ahead and order one tomorrow
LOL they maintained the shitty selector knob , splendid
I feel like going from 18650 to 18500 is a big step backwards, if they kept 18650 compatibility and added the option to use 2 CR123's that would have been a killer move. also would have liked if they slid the body over to be more centered so the battery cap wasn't on the rail, more like how the NGAL is laid out. Crane plug is certainly a plus, also I didn't hear about in the video but can the laser and lights be toned down in power or are we just stuck blasting full beans the whole time. Guess I'll hope for a gen2 to see if this pans out.
Good question, I summarized the night vision testing since I'll be doing a full comparison video once I get a production unit. Had to rush since the HFXC is coming out next week haha. The power levels are adjustable for the IR, visible laser and the IR illuminator. At 1:44 you can see the lowest power IR laser output.
@@nickydickyvids Good to hear , kinda wish it had the lockout settings but hey adjustable is good enough. still sad about the 18500 thing though I wounder if an elongated backcap could be used to fit 18650's still.
@@nobodytoyou4887 Maybe, both batteries are using 3.7 V for nominal voltage. Just gotta track down an adapter now haha

Great video! Fun comment sections. Testing out a wbp jack 5.56 myself. Keep having fun!
@@TrevorRicciTX nice! How are you liking it so far? Any big differences compare to shooting a 7.62 AKM?
@@nickydickyvids it feels a bit more rigid. Shoots very straight and flat though. With the heavy bolt and being way over gassed, it still recoils quite a bit. Bruised my shoulder a little first time out with it. I’ve been working on my shooting stance to help minimize muzzle rise. I tried to shoot it like an AR. Definitely feels like an AK though.
@@TrevorRicciTX I appreciate the info. Have fun and good luck with it! Thanks for watching!
I have one. Pretty stout little unit. For the price, it’s a bargain.
Learned my lesson when Century first started making AKs in the US. I decided to save my money and bought a Izhmash Saiga308 and Saiga12 (converted them both with high quality stuff). Recently also picked up a Zastava M70. Buddy of mine also tried the PSA route for his first and he now has 2 Veprs, a Bulgarian Krink, and a Zastava. Neither of us has had a single problem with our import variants.
Sounds great! If I continue down the AK rabbit hole I was thinking about picking up a WBP 5.56. Thanks for watching!
Turning 18 in April (living in AL) and I am looking to get an AK-47 as my first rifle. As of right now, non-corrosive steel cased 7.62x39 made by Hornedy is cheap, and I generally just like classic AKs. I don’t need nothing fancy, but I need something reliable and something that will have great, but DEPENDABLE stopping power! What AKs (no PDWs/SBRs included) do you recommend for a beginner on a budget?
Sorry for the late reply! Well even though I've had issues with my PSA, they've also been easy to work with for warranty work. Dollar for dollar, I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything better than a non-defective PSA GF3. I've just had rotten luck lol. For myself, I've been looking at WBP AKs, or maybe a Zastava for my next one. Either way, pick up that hornady ammo and shoot! Thanks for watching!

Flashlight didn't work right out of the box....
I just ordered the SMS Laser XK68P (gen 2) about 2 hours before seeing this video. Based on the SMS website. It looks like they removed some of the features on the model you have. There aren't any lugs at the bottom of the mount, nor does it have an adjuster next to the power button. They don't mention or show the tape switch. So, I don't know if it will come with the tape switch you have or the gen 1 model tape switch (which I have). I will have to wait til I get the XK68P in the mail.
@@edwintresco this is the "updated" XK68P that SMS decided to cancel. You'll most likely get the one that I went over in a previous video. Long story short for the current price of $90ish it's a usable LAM for a backup gun.
@nickydickyvids I got my XK68P In today. It doesn't have the lugs or the adjustable switch. It does come with the same tape switch. Also, the LAM doesn't have the power disconnect selection that yours have.
