I enjoy collecting turkey calls, but I make it a point to hunt with each and every call I collect before I put it in a display case, no matter the value of the call. After all, turkey calls wouldn't even exist if they weren't a big part of the turkey hunting experience.

To add to this conversation, I will say that landowners with feral hog problems need to get in contact with their local USDA office to see if they offer free trapping. I have had them come and trap many hogs for me.

When I started turkey hunting, I called with pot, box calls, and mouth calls. Later, I started with wing bone and trumpet calls. Now, I call almost exclusively with trumpet and wing bone calls. I have just decided that is how I want to hunt them and I get the most satisfaction that way. Good luck with your learning the trumpet call.

That's very well put because for the most part and many this is new information which they would have no idea about.....I think a big issue is just caring enough to do things like set aside this much for wildlife and maybe put some extra effort into good turkey area....people taking idle land and doing some extra things and above all states and federal areas getting that attention....but what it boils down too is just caring and a little effort.....the only thing that buys or produces those things are work and effort and it comes from plain Ole human beings.....

I truly feel the biggest problem is with the land management.. there is none( public where most people hunt). It truly makes me sad for the birds and all wildlife! Im with the nwtf and Im going to try my but off to get a super fund going for a state park in my area. Maybe a little invasive here and there, but almost the entire park? And the predators come with this invasive stuff so let's fix the boat and deal with our beautiful lands, because one way or another predators will always be around, but if our lands are managed correctly that will reduce the predator problem. In my personal opinion. On another note would there be anyway you great gentleman could or would do a little segment about Illinois? Thanks docs for you time, and have the best day of your lives! Charles S. Merrill P.S. your podcast is giving me a beautiful education!

Doctors Gulsby and Lashley.. Just Fantastic! So, In my personal opinion I think the reason on average its 30%, turkeys are hard to hunt! And I really believe that Good turkey populations start with the kind of land that is not only good for nesting but gives broods the vegetation they need to move around safely. Some of the turkey areas around peoria county, ill are so choked with plants that should not be there.. a deer couldnt walk through. Half the area I hunt is choked with evasive plant life. Im a member with NWTF, trying to start a chapter here in my home town. I love the study of land management and wild turkey biology. Sounds funny but right now you two gentleman along with a few others are my biology and science teachers. I want to thank you both so much for the info! Any possibly you guys could do some number crunching on the state of Illinois? No one ever mentions us?! Thanks again.. Charles S. Merrill
