At the Madison Land Conservation Trust's Rettich preserve, Sami Braman and her band performed at the annual fund raiser concert. Lovely evening, and here's an edited sampler from the 2nd half.

Brittany Haas and Lena Jonsson, September 2023, at Fire In The Kitchen Concerts, held at Deer Lake Preserve in Killingworth. The concert was held to benefit Deer Lake in it's efforts to preserve the camp as open space and an outdoor education center.

The very first tune played at their very first full show in the U.S., from their very first tour. I apologize for the sketchy sound and video (primitive equipment back then) but it was shot by the Madison Community TV station, and they showed it a number of times. Transferred to digital from a recently-discovered VHS of the show hiding in the basement.

From their first tour ever in the U.S. The video wa shot by the local Madison tv channel, the tech was still new and we set them up in the balcony, as far away from the stage as you can get. Somehow a hum worked it's way in to the tape that wasn't there originally (sorry about that...) They didn't have an agent or anything back then, and the tour was cobbed together through various friends and ...

This video was from their first full show in the U.S., and was taken by the local community television station. Cameras have improved a lot since then, and so have the operators! There's an annoying hum I can't quite get rid of, which happened either during the taping or during the conversion from an old VHS to digital. The former seems more likely. They're really good! And sweet.
From a classical Viewpoint the word "fiddle" came from folk that had no classical training yet they played the fiddle violin amazingly.... yep that's me - I have no idea how I play guitar I just do ! .. although we love and appreciate the classics it does get stuffy at times ...got get the people up on their feet dancing🎉

It sounds like the Irish tune with the words “what are we gonna do with the drunken sailor.” Also some similarity to Polish Gorale melodies. And I love Lena’s five miles from town.

Thanks so much for posting this concert. Lena and Brittany are my 2 favorite fiddle players, and they certainly show their great talent. I loved the venture into classical music, the suite with 3 movements, and also Lena's "10 days of isolation".

From 2020 through 2022, Fire In The Kitchen took artists outdoors into the woods at various land trusts and open spaces that required funds for continued land acquisition or maintenance. The musicians in the early part or the lockdown were obviously a little rough due to lack of practice time, but as time went on, they rose to their normal brilliant selves. We even tried one virtual concert, with our audience members gathered around various fire pits. All did a phenomenal job under weird circumstances. Performers include: The Rita Beggars, Damn Tall Buildings, Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas, Joe K. Walsh and Celia Woodsmith, Mr. Sun, Darol Anger, Grant Gordy, Pumpkin Bread Band, Rakish, Jayme Stone, Jeremy Kittel and Kittel and Co., and Hawktail.

Great! What is this fiddle style called?
While it's an original, it would be very much a traditional "Old-Time" style piece, common Appalachian fiddling. The real telling feature is the shuffle bowing, which provides most all the rhythm.
@@fireinthekitchenconcerts9462 Thank you! Sometimes subtle differences in bowing make a lot of old time fiddle players sound so different from each other, I almost think it's a completely different style of playing!
