Hello,
I'm Dave and this channel will primarily focus on aviation adventures. I started flying in 2018 and as of today have logged over 1400 hours while getting my instrument, seaplane, multi engine and commercial ratings. I became a partner in a group of 14 that owns 4 floatplanes in Northern Minnesota in 2022. I fly my Cessna 182 RG from my home airport in Wisconsin to the float plane then transfer the gear and switch planes for on-water adventures.
We will be videoing several cross-country adventures in the 182.
I'm new to posting videos to youtube so open to suggestions and constructive criticism. I have made my living in the commercial diving industry for over 30 years and have previously done rebreather, mixed gas deep diving as well as cave diving. if there is interest in that we may depart from the aviation fixation.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my channel.

7 Crashes in 7 Days Can the Seawind be Recovered?
On July 3rd 2021 an amateur built experimental Seawind 3000 aircraft crash landed South of Beaver Island on Lake Michigan. The pilot was rescued and the plane sank to 360 feet below the surface.

525 HP LS 3 Powered Murphy Moose on Floats
100 gallons seems low-I’d think you’d want at least 150 with that fuel burn.
Did that airplane just back up?
Yes, it’s called beta when you change the pitch of the prop to reverse
@@SchlenkAir very cool! I know nothing of aviation. I was searching LS swaps and this popped up… Pretty freaking cool!
@@trainnerd3029he’s testing a turbo now, should be flying soon and will do new video. Sounds cool with turbo
@@SchlenkAir A flying LS3 with a turbo… Seriously? OK you got me I subscribed ! Lol!
Nice! Thanks
Great video, what an amazing aircraft!!
Nasty ha
great video
The engine sounds odd, what's in it?
Ls3 corvette engine
180/185 guy here. And I also owned N3608R a PC-6 Porter. I’ll say this Turbine Moose has all the boxes checked for the ultimate flying machine. It’s the stuff I dream about! I love it!
Thanks for the comment, totally agree seems like a lot of plane for the money
Maybe touch on how you cool a water cooled engine on an airplane.
Still a closed loop system with a radiator
Great videos Dave
Thanks Bart glad you like it
Super👌🤜
wow, very cool! What is your cruise speed?
Wooooh what a choice sounding airplane. Prob get over it pretty quick on a long trip tho.
Putting a car engine in a plane is PROBABLY the stupidest thing you can do.
True, he needs to 12v swap it
The engine doesn’t know what it’s in. It’s just doing its job.
@@brandonhoffman1875 aircraft piston engines are often designed to run slower with a longer stroke in turn allowing them to run cooler for a long time while still outputting good power. They can be less responsive than a car engine though. Car engines get the same power levels often at higher rpm meaning more heat. There’s ways around this in addition to level of maintenance being put in. Plus cost. I wouldn’t say it’s the stupidest thing one can do, because it’s often done across experimental aircraft. Heck, even snowmobile engines have been used. So you’re right, absolutely, doesn’t know what it’s in. However, to balance between the OP and this, there is risk involved largely due to cooling issues and wear and tear. There’s certainly other factors (on both sides of the debate) I’m just not knowledgeable enough of them.
How much does a 500 hp aircraft engine cost??? ! Oh yeah they don’t make one.
I have a boat. I call it prestige worldwide. I don’t own a plane. I only know two people that have a pilot’s license. One of them owns a plane. I can’t say I ever experienced this. FAA regulations and all.
First Rule of Floatplanes: If there are boats afloat in the area, then be sure to stay touching the water while passing them (while touching the water) at, say, 140 kts. It's important that they know that if there was a boat race, the floatplane would win by a 2:1 ratio of Top Speed on Water. After this has been accomplished, then you can takeoff and enjoy the flight.
I love the old school Cessna shirt. Last time I saw that was when Doug Masters wore it while flying the Snake against Notcher in Iron Eagle. 😂. “Heh heh. Tough landing fly baby”?
Loved the ride. Thanks for sharing. Im in Beaver, Utah. I have a friend that i go flying with in the winter. We fly onto Fishlake, Panguitch lake, joes valley and strawberry. Its fun landing on a frozen lake in his Alaskan bush plane. Be safe always. Dan
You should invite @cleetusmcfarland to come fly that!
sounds like a sprintcar
Hope he did the DoD delete on that thing!
😂
@cleetus mcfarland
That's amazing!
But can it drift.
Cessna 185 on Edo straight floats appears to be quicker off the water. Anfib makes a difference.
My grandfathers last plane was a 185 on amphib
that thing sounds great.
you can LS swap anything
im all for loud things but maybe a small muffler would make longer flights more bearable
Nearly all headsets come with Active Noise Canceling
have you been hanging out with Mike Patey?
What RPM is it sitting at at full power? What does the reliability look like, if you don't mind me asking?
YES this is the Life Sir flying the Beautiful Country Side, the Outback it doesn't get any Better than this !! The Beard, Shades and the Headphone u look Pretty Cool I like it !! On top of it all flying a Cessna 185 , he don't forget 2 Thank ur GOD in case u got one !! Thanks 4 the video clip and I wish you many more Safe Flights Good Luck and GOD Bless you ! ❤❤😊😊
Great view frrom sky
You must have the Texas Skyways Engine because the Three blade Prop is screaming at full power take off and let it eat
Wheel landed on the grass is more forgiving than the asphalt and keep on flying your 185 around the pattern
This is the modern version of Baloo's plane from Tale Spin
Sounds like a nice little 232/238 cam with a 114 LSA
How many drugs can you fit inside? asking for a friend lol
sickest setup ever
dont forget to tuck in your schlenkair
one day i want to be able to say that i fly to my own private fishing spot
expect lot of new comments ...
Cant make it turbo? Rather block swap and trippl... make that quadruple a float liftoff?
It’s being turbocharged as we speak, will do a video when done
Reliability -50 america +69
Funny, the "unreliable" LS in my pickup has gotten me nearly 300k miles with zero issues.
Fly safe in that little beast
No one talkin about reverse?
I'm still trying to figure out if it's a 4 speed or a 5 speed.
The propeller blades rotate to get reverse thrust. He mentioned it having "beta" which is the pitch range beyond idle pitch into the reverse thrust range. I googled it lol.
Floats seem sunk which doesn't seem at all safe for rough water. Nice sound though.
Looks like a bigger prop would be better for the horsepower
Flight idle on a turbo prop is not for quicker use of reverse. It’s for quicker go rounds and stall recovery.
It needs a muffler! A low-restriction muffler, so it won't reduce power too much.
It sounds like it has very low compression. very strange
Im just guessing, but they ls swapped it.
Sweet!
