Jonathan Parker is a writer, director, producer, musician and composer from San Francisco, currently based in San Rafael, CA. He began his career as a musician, performing in indie rock groups and the Marin Symphony. He turned to filmmaking after he and fellow band members self-directed a music video that garnered attention from Hollywood. For the last eighteen years he's teamed up with writer, producer Catherine di Napoli, to write and produce four feature films. Their latest feature, THE ARCHITECT, starring Parker Posey, Erik McCormack and James Frain, is being released widely in the Fall of 2016.

Director/writer Jonathan Parker and producer/writer Catherine di Napoli of The Architect, talk about their writing process. They've had a fruitful collaboration across four films, Bartleby, The Californians, (Untitled) and The Architect. Idiot architect
I'm happy to have just found this again on RUclips the other night, but little did I know that there's actually a 1972 version that's also here on RUclips as well as a half an hour version that was set in 1853.

As an architect, this trailer makes me want to see the movie. From what I saw, it looks like a satire of how ordinary clients view architects, exaggerating our quirky faults and manors. If they made a movie about real architects it would be boring to most people. A recommended architect movie: Housesitter. Steve Martin plays a good architect.

This movie was, even with all the updates, *very* accurate to Melville's story. The surreal, alienating visual design helps with the Melville spirit as well. Finally (and I'm not even that big a fan) but Crispin Glover was *perfect* as the mysterious Bartleby. Glover's weirdness works perfectly here and not a mannerism nor line is out of place.
Great movie. "Hilarious!" is not how I'd describe it, though.

Agreed, even with the updates and stylized/surreal setting the core of Melville's story is perfectly intact. Just shows what a timeless piece of literature it is

I'm an architect and this movie portrays the discipline and the architect is such.. different light. There is so much more to architecture than dressing hipster and talking quotes and making flashy buildings. I hope we all soon get a movie that more closer to reality.

i just watched the movie and i'm an architecture student and i can say that it has nothing to do with architects it's just offending them and the whole story is a bunch of non-sense architects don't think that way they don't act that way it's just so wrong...

are you or are you done ?. It is not an architectural documentary nor is it going to be exhibited at a biennial. I see that it is about the ideal of architecture taken to the extreme, it speaks of certain things but also of things pulled by the hair. after all, the architect is human and each mind is a world. It makes you think at least I found it entertaining.
As an architect i expected this movie to be cool, but nope this shit is too goofy for architects to watch
