I've watched a ton of vlogs. A good friend of mine works for Sky West. Her experience in the beginning didn't work out with her 1st instructor and she requested another one. She loves working with Skywest now and after a year has her own line. We are in our 50's. I am applying after I get my passport. Before you give up and give in based on this one vlog, research other options. Although I appreciate this story and experience, don't let this detour your career. Thousands love this career. The first year or two is challenging, this experience lasted very briefly. Just a suggestion. Not everyone has a negative experience, like I mentioned my friend requested another instructor and is loving her career at Skywest. 😉

I am working as a flight attendant now and I too am in my 50’s. Just started and I really like it but I do see that my health could be compromised. So I am trying to figure how to workout while traveling. Also couldn’t get into SLC so I live part time elsewhere and I totally miss my family! I’m trying!

I am a 47 year old sub at local high schools also. Its rough. I feel like i live at the mercy of my phone in order to pick up jobs before another sub picks them up. I hope you land your dream job soon!

I start training in January. I bought two pairs of shoes with straps (maryjane type) but just read on reddit that straps on shoes were not allowed. So I'm worried if I need to return them. It seems the instructor and the crew was not supportive AT ALL. I believe the coworkers really make or break a working environment. I wished that you would have requested to change your instructor and maybe you would have had a better experience. Mistakes are EXPECTED for your first day and they should know that. I feel like there needs to be a level of compassion for a career valuing service and safety. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I’m hesitant After watching your IOE experience. Your IOE instructor was very unprofessional …I have a couple questions if you don’t mind answering…Do you feel that if you had been with another crew/had a different instructor that it would been better or do you feel this is a company wide mindset?
