A Tribute To Ron Severt
Who is a mentor?
A mentor is a person who is a teacher, a guide to the lesser experienced. A mentor is a person who finds joy and satisfaction, knowing they have passed useful knowledge to a student or person in training. In my life, i have had many mentors, and one of them was Ron Severt.
Ron loved steam engines and anything steam related. He knew them inside and out.... literally. His knowledge and understanding of many makes and models of steam traction engines were vast and wide. He could talk about them for hours and never miss a beat. Ask him any question about them, and he had an answer, then a pop quiz afterward.
Ron had a unique sense of humor. One of his favorite things to ask ...

Trip To Hoover Dam
Просмотров 513 года назад
We decided to take an old fashioned family vacation in our rv. Its a 1994 Holiday Rambler motorhome. It was awesome, we went where we wanted, and stayed where we wanted, no rush just relax. Just a little clip of us traveling up 93 north to Hoover Dam in Arizona.
Allison MD3060 ECU Diagnostic
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 года назад
Here is a video on some issues I had with my Allison MD3060 WTECII control module. The unit wouldnt allow me to start the RV which is a 1994 Holiday Rambler Endeavor. This is a very common issue with these aging units, as it is now 27 yrs old. I had no issues up till now, so it is very sudden when it does happen. I was able to find a company that rebuilds these control modules, and now in the p...
Missouri Rehabilitation Center (Former Missouri state Sanatorium)

The end of an era. The Missouri Rehab Center (former Missouri state Tuberculosis Sanatorium and local VA clinic) closed its doors for good on April 30, 2019. A staple in our little community for over 112 years. A small tribute to a once important and purposeful place. This is for those who passed through its doors either visitors patients or workers its legacy will live on. We as a community ar...
great tribute to your Mentor
Fixed my 1994 dream from doing that. Its c41 can capacitor inside the ecu. Not the relay box not the shifter module. Id its like a 1uf 50volt capacitor. I replaced all the can capacitors just in case . Has like 4 or 5 4.7uf 25volt one 6uf 100. You have fewissues. ecu issue and the shifter module
@tryduck5571 I could have repaired the power supply in the shift pad module, but i did not have the tools and software to flash the shift patterns back into the memory of the module. It is reccomend to do that after the module throws the code. My rv had erratic shift paterns before the power supply failed, most likely due to the intermittent module power failures. It now shifts like a new rig. That WTEC shift controller means everything to the shifing of that Allison transmission. I'm glad you got it fixed! Thanks for watching.
small correction "OL" "70" is not oil life, that's measuring oil level, and 70 is a reading error, not hot, not running, not sitting long enough etc. OL OK is what you want, OL LO O3 is 3qt low.
My friend I'm going to watch all this video just letting you know. I went to a gas station and all of a sudden I got the gear shift! Are and it would not go into gear luckily I got home after toggling the key. I thought I would check transmission fluid but I can't even find the transmission fluid dipstick or Phil location
@jamesbondaygee depends on what kind of rig you have. If you have the same transmission and electronic shift pad, more than likely, you will have an Allison md3060 or 3050. Those were the popular choices for most of the manufacturers in the 90s. Let me know what ya got and what other issues your having. Thanks for watching!
@@hvaczach510 yes it's the md3060. I've looked at the error codes which are all saying failures at the solenoids. Luckily I found a guy to come out and help me.
Thanks Zach for the video. Bummed you have not done more. I just purchased a 94 Holiday Rambler DP.
@TignerAdventures Holiday Ramblers are some of the best built rvs. Back in their hay days, they were the cats meow! I very much enjoy our endeavor. I will try to make a few more intuitive videos on the rig. Thanks for watching!
@@hvaczach510 Sounds great. I subscribed so we will be here when you do. I pick it up the 1st week of Oct and will be doing some videos myself. Ours is a Navigator.
This is about the Allison MD 3060 transmission the shifter you said you had somebody that rebuilt them and I thought you said you’re gonna put a link up I’m not very good with this stuff hopefully you get this
Hi Kyle, yes the web address is in the video description it is www.transmissioninstruments.com the guy who runs it is John. I had my WTEC II shift module rebuilt by him. That is the main push button shift controller. It stores all the shift patterns for your transmission. He did this for me in 2021 and I have taken the RV on several trips with no issues. I would highly recommend them for this repair. Normally the power supply is what fails on these, and it will not allow the transmission relay control module to work correctly. Good Luck!
oh wow you got to ride them

Too cool. I'd like to know about the mechanics of it
My Friend Keith Running a 1921 AD Baker steam engine owned by the Feiker Brothers. This engine is a steam powered uniflow engine. Basically like the Hemi of its day. Baker steam engines we some of the smoothest operating engines built. The reversing gear is amazing how easily it goes from forward to reverse. Very well engineered machines.
lol
This site is now patrolled by security that actively have the police or sheriff arresting trespassers. I would not recommend risking it going there.
Much needed after this long
I just had a shift pad failure. Your video is helping me to diagnose and confirm the problem. The video is very to-the-point and helpful. I have a 1993 Monaco Dynasty with the MD3060 Allison and experienced erratic display behavior - including a "NoShift" message on the display and the idiot light on the dash. Then the display went dead and the resulting engine start failure, too. Luckily this occurred during my monthly start exercise and not while I was traveling. And the levelers won't go down because "neutral" isn't detected. A hive of issues, yes, but your video gives me hope. Thanks for the link to the Transmission Instruments website. The troubleshooting there will help me confirm shifter pad failure and perhaps a rebuild. Good job on this video!
Glad to hear. I had this trouble also when doing my monthly start of the rig. I usually check it out once a month and drive it also. Good exercise for the rv. It sure sounds like your power supply in the shift pad controller is failing as well as mine did. The team at transmission instruments were excellent in their work and knowledge. You really have 2 choices, either rebuild it or buy a newer used one somewhere on ebay or at a dealer that has been on the shelf for years. They still have to program the shift patterns in from your old one though. John at Transmission Instruments will do all that and check it out thoroughly. Mine was perfect after getting it back and we drove it to the Grand Canyon and hoover dam with no issues at all. Good luck and hoping for the best. Thanks for watching. Zach
So sad to see this place go to waste...ever since it's closing and just recently the selling of some of the things that were in there its really bad now. Wish there was a way to salvage it but with the vandalism added to it. There may not be anything to salvage now. My mother had worked there before she retired in 1997. It was a beautiful place. 😥😥😥
Research and videos like this helped me to decide to never buy a diesel with an Allison transmission RV. Thanks
Nice looking steam engine not very many Rumely's here so it's nice to see something different
Identical fault as mine! I was going to start Monday. This is golden to find all y'all!
I will say this. John and his crew are good at what they do. There is alot that goes into rebuilding one nit just capacitors and a new transformer. He also re flashes the memory with the factory shift settings. I just took a trip to the grand canyon and hoover dam over 3000 miles and it shifted like a champ with no issues at all. I would highly recommend them to rebuild it.
@@hvaczach510 just viewed the website and appears all I have to do is figure out what to ship him!
@@Undersafav yes just follow the shipping instructions carefully. I would call also just to talk and let him know your sending it. He is very helpful and nice.
I don’t know how to use these phones very well could somebody please try to shoot me the guys name that works on the Allison shifters
Got a 93 gluf stream rv and key pad wont light up how I get it to crank
Try using a hair dryer to heat up the bottom of the key pad unit. Its mounted under the key pad. Its called the WETC controller. You can also go to the website www.transmissioninstruments.com and follow the test procedures listed if you are electronically skilled. It sounds like it needs to be rebuilt.
Thank you im dealing with this now
I have the same problem. HR 1994. How long did it take for John or Transmission Ins. to send it back?
Well i just sent it off about a week ago. Due to cost and weather i waited. We had the bad cold and ice in Texas, so i did t want to send it off until it was better for them and me. I have talked to John and he said i should recieve it within 2 weeks. I hope the video was helpful. I had to troubleshoot it on my own. I couldnt find any videos on the oroblem.
@@hvaczach510 Well I saw this video ruclips.net/video/lTOMw-haShQ/видео.html and I think it's just a re cap issue. New capacitor. Is that all John is doing? replacing a .30 cent capacitor?
@@BooBooGlue1 Well there are 3 power supplies in the unit. He recaps and repairs any issues with them. Also he has to re-flash the eprom chip. He stated, due to the age they can loose their ability to retain info or can be effected by the power supply failures. Each unit has the factory programming specs that are stored inside the eprom labled on them. He refreshes the eprom with those specs and testes them out. I thought of doing the work myself as i have done many power supply rebuilds with amateur radio gear, but i do not have the capability to reprogram the eprom chip if it happens to loose its programming.
@@hvaczach510 did you get it back and does it work?
@@BooBooGlue1 Yes, sorry for the late reply i haven't looked at my channel in a while. I got it back and took a trip to Az to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam with the rv. It did awsome. No issues shifting or anything. In fact it worked better than it did when i bought it. John did an excellent job. Thanks for watching.
Hey Zach, with your permission I’d like to use some pieces of this video as a tribute sort of thing for the end of my video for the workers of the hospital, I will of course credit you.
Sure thing
My grandmother worked here back in the day. He name was Jane Nelson and she worked on the bottom floor as a nurse and in Human Resources
That thing must have been an expensive proposition in it's time. Great machine still today though.
Joe its a 1915 M Rumley steam traction engine. It was rated at about 14hp back in the day. We put it on the prony brake and found it to have about 26hp. It is a beast to run but fun. This is a video i shot from my phone of my boys on there. They usually ride with me but are trying it out for themselves. The one driving the engine is not my son but a friend of the Steam Show Club. Enjoy!
@@hvaczach510 Thanks for the info. I love older equipment. I'd be willing to bet my dad saw some of these things growing up. I wish he was still around to ask this and much more.
