We continue adding to the 4-color Frankenprinter with a new filament dryer which can feed four spools at once to the printer. It can reach temps suitable for drying PETg and ASA filament for 3D printing, too!

    Could you explain more about the steam escape and the one at the bottom for the "convection flow". So I have seen many things (IE my pressure cooker) have valves at the top to slowly release steam. But that's high pressure steam. Why is a simple valve at the top helping release humidity/steam from the box? And I am not quite sure I understand what you mean by "convection flow" like what kind of air is coming in through that valve? How does it help dry filament more efficiently? And I cant quite tell are those heating elements outside or inside of the box?

    • @mightystudiosvids
      @mightystudiosvids Месяц назад

      The heating element is inside the box. What you see on the outside is just the electronics control board. Since hot air rises, I added two holes to the box that I can open. One low and one high. The upper hole lets the hot steam escape so it does not remain trapped in the box. To help it vent faster, the lower hole lets cooler room air flow into the box. This creates a convection current through the box from the lower hole to the upper hole, allowing the moist air to be removed. Hope this helps.

    So how would taking a 3d printer heat bed puting it bottom taking the thermistor and putting near top of box. And using 3d printer control board and screen to control it. I'd use 24v set up to get a hotter area. If lucky you could have tevo tornado heat bed that pulls 110v and should more than get hot enough. Add computer fans to circulate the air

    Great video! DIY really is the way to go most of the time for me. I got 2 questions- first, did you manage to evenly-dehydrate the filaments? I assume that the spools won't move unless ur printing, so it might dry more the part thats closer to the heater than the other sides. Second, did you try other materials like nylon? Which I read need around 80+ celcius

    • @mightystudiosvids
      @mightystudiosvids 3 месяца назад

      I have not tried nylon, but I know the box I built will not reach 80c. The heater uses a circulation fan, and since the box is rather small I assume to the heat is circulating well enough.

    So the My Arcade game you show with the two buttons included is actually a Bubble Bobble. Since Bubble Bobble is not among the 6 games chooseable for the Pac-Man unit, I suppose it belongs to a different set of games included in those units. Could you find out which games are in that set? It looks like the My Arcade unit uses NES games which of course have been around for a long time, while the Tiny Arcade units have their own, less capable hardware with newly programmed ports, which you can tell by the fact that the games have a lower resolution and framerate (does that hardware support sprites at all?) and don't look that arcade-accurate generally.

  • @ogsarg

    Just got around to wiring up everything and all is good except one ornament doesn't work with the 6VAC power supply. It's the borg cube that talks when turned on. this is a really smart solution for parked heads! question for you- how are you handling purging on the chimeras? normal IDEX printing doesn't need a purge since you have two independent extruders, but since you're mixing two in each nozzle I imagine you're purging. Are you purging between every color change no matter what or are do you have a way of specifying a purge between A->B and C->D, but not any of the other swaps (AC, AD, BC, and BD)?

    • @mightystudiosvids
      @mightystudiosvids 10 месяцев назад

      They are 4 independent nozzles with their own hot ends, so it's ok to let one print while it's partner is idle. A change to Marlin firmware was needed to make sure changes like A->B wait for A to cool sufficiently before B can begin printing. Changes like A->C can be more immediate since A will go park. Overall, prints take longer if there is a lot of cooling pauses needed, but no purging is required. At some point, I'd like to try and optimize the slicing so I can avoid the cooldown needed by preferring to change from one IDEX side to the other over changes between nozzles on the same side.

    The battery seems a tad awkward to get to for a replacement, but at least they made it user serviceable. My portable device is just a cheap $99 chromebook(reinstalled with a lightweight Debian system by removing the special screw). Not much I can do hardwarewise with it beyond that though...

      I'm just thankful nothing was glued down. Prying out a battery stuck down with adhesive is very stressful.
