I think what your missing, is that the 3D controlee schemes are in development during the 32 bit console era. The 3D controls we know today weren't invented during the PS2's life time, they inherited the controls developed during the PS1's life cycle. Check out some late PS1 games and you'll see their controls are much closer to what we see in PS2 games and even now.

Yoooo I know Ridge Racer V's intro was a drastic shift form Type 4 but I freakin loved it. V was my first intro since I still have my PS2. I went ahead and bought Type 4 ASAP . Both intros get me hyped!

Man, is the LoK series really at "probably never heard of" status? Jeez, I must be getting old. Anyway, excellently-made video. Fantasy was my favorite genre for almost all my life. But over the past few years, it has shifted to just focus on dark fantasy. I do miss the variety of intelligent races in most high fantasy settings. But oh well. Also, I will add, Red Sonja is pronounced like "Sonya".

Oh the days of 2-3 years being the wait time. Back then it felt like forever but considering that was the era of games having to be finished or not with the consequences and rewards to show made it worth while

The free Yakuza games keep my PSN subscription alive. The writing is so much fun. I think it's the only game I actually play for the writing.

Funny how, despite the semi realistic graphics, the games left enough to the imagination that they didn't invoke the uncanny valley effect. Its almost like the more hyper-real games get, the easier it is to tell the realism is just an imitation. Things were a lot better when we had imagination to help us fill the gap

It's funny, Dark Fantasy used to be my favorite type of Fantasy. But i think i've reached a point where i'm so depressed that i actually dislike it because it feeds into that depression. I like Light Fantasy more nowadays because it makes me feel better. I still enjoy some Dark Fantasy but it's not a genre i seek out anymore.

I got into my own version of dark fantasy because of Bloodborne and Dishonored, but I wanted the dystopia and urban/cosmic feel of Uzumaki, Half Life and Control, so I read a bunch of Octavia Butler, Thomas Ligotti, Ted Chiang, Jeff Vandermeer, China Mieville among others and I've found my style of new weird settings with intimate characters dealing with a bunch of fuckery on every level. I want accessible, middlebrow stories that allow for more nuanced and grounded discussions about religion, society and philosophy.
