What about Angel of Death from The Prince of Egypt?

I have some points that I enjoyed and many that I didn’t like. I enjoyed seeing Mario try so many times to finish the obstacle course. It acknowledged how frustrating it can be to try over and over again and never get anywhere. I loved this movie’s attention to detail was awesome. Like Bowser dropping Luigi’s mustache hair was a tiny detail I think the animators put in despite it being likely to go unnoticed. I also loved the Blue Star. It made me laugh every time I didn’t like that only one character had any character development at all. Character development is something that makes or breaks a movie for me, and when No one changed at all in this movie, it was a let down. I gave an hour and a half to a movie full of static characters. One static character I can stand, especially when it’s within character. Like it’s someone really stubborn or narcissistic. However this movie showed no change in characterization. Only a change in situations. Another thing that bothered me was the climax, because for an action movie, it wasn’t very climactic. It didn’t have much tension to it at all. Just some fire and then Boom Mario and Luigi proceeded to win using the Star. There were points that I enjoyed, but I don’t think I’ll ever willingly give time to watch this again. This movie did none of that. Not terrible by any means, but quite forgettable.

They are milking the series. The 3 movies were the best trilogy. 1st movie was about body, second was about mind, third was about soul. what will the 4th be about ? This is just unacceptable. I didn’t expect this from dreamworks

To be honest, everyone is a critic, you and me. It gets very toxic because people state that this film is made FOR THE MARIO FANS, but when a critic who is openly not a Mario fan says they did not enjoy the film, they get criticized? Do people want critics to lie just because the fans like the film?

The Mario movie is just pure fun. It’s an absolute blast to watch in spite of its flaws. I guess critics just don’t wanna have fun.

I enjoyed this film and personally I would say its almost as good as turning red.

wait, so people come to watch Mario and expect there is a plot? From Mario franchise? Are we talking about the same Mario that we all know? Since when Mario has a deep story or a plot? If it's about Zelda or Final Fantasy, yeah, I can understand the frustration, but this is MARIO. The game is literally: come and save princess, go in castle, ah, the princess is kidnapped again into another castle from 1-1 -> 1-4 -> etc. And through multiple worlds, yay, you save the princess, and next year another Mario game is released, and ta-da, the princess is kidnapped again, go save her. People really expect to make sense out of Mario film? Huh? Even the writers make fun of Mario's world by adding lines: bricks are floating? Don't these critics see that? This movie is dedicated to their fans and kids. You don't need to understand anything, just enjoy it. P.s.: as a normal office worker (and I believe most of us are), I appreciate this movie. It brought me childhood memory without needing to think. Do you know how hard it is after working from 9 to 5 everyday, and you can enjoy just a simple movie on weekend without making me questioning my life or any moral decisions that I have made? Just pure entertainment, and that's what I need.

Critics and studios have just lost touch with what general audiences are looking for nowadays. The past 3 or so years of Hollywood have given us nothing but stinkers trying to push some political agenda. So a movie like the Mario movie that doesn’t shove messaging down our throat, doesn’t take itself too seriously, and doesn’t try too hard to create some complex groundbreaking narrative is really a breath of fresh air that we’ve all been looking for. The numbers speak for themselves, making over 1 billion dollars in about a month or so shows that if you give audiences what they want and nothing more, you can still create smash successes. Studios follow the money more than anything, so after seeing how successful the Mario Movie was they are certainly going to revert back to the formula of just creating a fun movie that all people can enjoy, regardless of age or political views. All in all, LESS IS MORE especially in modern day Hollywood

At this point it doesn't matter if a movie is good or not what matters is what's gonna make our content over-lords at Disney more money. It seems like we can't just have a fun movie anymore everything has to have a deep story with complex characters. We can't just have fun movies about an Italia guy saving his brother from a spiky turtle

I think one thing that pushes viewers away from Disney is that many of their modern movies forcefully inject real world social issues into their plots. Whether the viewer agrees or disagrees with the issue presented, people want to go to a movie to escape from this world. The mario movie did that. My friends and I left and almost immediately said, “it was great to not have a blatant agenda blasted at us throughout the movie” But that’s just my opinion, anyway

You know, the director of Lightyear actually said they are not very creative people, and they write what they know 🤦, he even said that it was his choice to make Lightyear fairly grounded in the sense that he didn't want everything to be so fantastical that there was no connection to it as an audience (himself)🤦 he wasn't even interested in making Lightyear colorful or very energetic.

Dreamworks has always been at their best when they do what no other animation studio is doing. That's why shrek was so successful, both monetarily and critically, and it's now the reason why Puss in Boots was so successful. I hope they keep going down this route for the foreseeable future and I will definitely be checking out Kung Fu Panda 4

I will say, this movie actually did have to go this hard because the key target age group has never experienced Dreamworks when they were great. unlike anyone who can remember Megamind, How to train your dragon, Kung fu panda and Shrek 1 and 2

I think you can put Sandman from Origin of the Guardians in this list since he returned after being killed, also since pitch black was a being capable of corrupting and ending their existence, he could be considered their version of death(maybe not literally, but close enough). To me, Sandman is a being that just cannot be killed unless you kill or corrupt every single being that can have dreams.

I think metroman would give death a run for its money. He is the most fiscally power character in dreamworks. And also the fastest one.

The wolves were the highlight of Dreamworks in 2022
