I'm sorry, but I disagree. If you do not set deadlines what is your motivation to be productive and efficient while pursuing your goals. You may not always meet those deadlines, but those are opportunities to sit down and assess what you have accomplished so far and what things need to happen to reach your goal, as well as to find out what worked and what didn't. In order to be successful you must hold yourself accountable and you must be constantly review what were good ideas and what were mistakes.

Parents being mature emotionally is the ideal situation, but is not the reality for a lot of children who have become estranged from their parents- In most of these cases the emotional labor of repairing the relationship falls on the child even though that isn’t how it should be (causing a full reversal of parent / child as seen in transactional analysis). Speaking of my own dynamics, the problem was never their behavior but my response to their harmful behavior; Therefore it was never about being in relationship with me personally at all, but rather seeking personal validation / narcissistic gratification through their own children. Nailed it- because emotionally immature parents don’t have the capacity to repair to the same extent that they cause damage.
