3: if both complete the work, then whoever cast "The End of Everything" afterward wins
4: if both complete the work, and cast "The End of Everything" ties are broken by orbs collected at the time of confronting the boss [or foes defeated, if somehow that is a tie too]

i couldn't understand why you were always keeping mushroom spells in later playthroughs but now i see why. gg
it can oneshot alchemist if you get piercing - that's why i keep it most of the time, i wouldnt want to look for it after i get piercing so i keep in just in case
