Steadicam: Tips for Extra Stability
Here are three quick tips on how to stabilize and get smoother shots on your Steadicam. Step one is the easiest and quickest way. By just simply extending everything out, you create more inertia required to move the rig. This helps in windy conditions, whip pans or just simply walking. This is also very helpful in low mode. The second step utilizes Kenyon Gyros. I prefer the ones that have the built-in inverter. With a 1/4 20 thread it’s just easier to mount anywhere on the sled. Having the inverter built in makes for a much cleaner build. The third is having a grip hold a wind blocker. The one I use is made by Sunbounce. It is large enough to protect the entire sled from the wind. Useful...

  • @The11thPower

    Wouldn’t this throw off dynamic balance? Or is dynamic balance not important if you need more Stability? What will enable you to get steady shots without something like a volt. Since theoretical extending those will make the gimbal at the top not be centered

    • @tajtcam
      @tajtcam 8 дней назад

      @@The11thPower you still have to balance the sled so the gimbal will have to move down a little bit and still have a 3 to 5 second drop time. Dynamic balance is still important and easily achieved. You may have to adjust the full extension of either the monitor or the battery rack to still get dynamically balanced. Basically you still balance as normal, except with a fully extended sled, which creates more inertia required to move it overall.

    • @The11thPower
      @The11thPower 8 дней назад

      @ the problem I have is, when I extend it, the gimbal yoke has to be far away from the base to give it a decent drop time that isn’t fast. Are you saying that extending the sled, and extending batter or monitor (or both) it will affect the gimbal balance? (Or allow me to still balance the gimbal and have it closer to the top?)

    • @tajtcam
      @tajtcam 8 дней назад

      @@The11thPower the gimbal will still have to move away from the donkey box to get your 3 to 5 second drop time, but you will find that even though it is that far away from the top stage, you will still have a more stable rig less affected by wind for example

    if the camera weighs 700 grams and the other 1600, which one is easier to balance on a steadicam? I saw Chinese steadicams, they have a weight in the form of a circle attached to the bottom of the rod, it can also be changed in height, but the weight should be concentrated on the steadicam axis or on the front part of the lens and on the back of the camera body (I meant the bottom of the steadicam)?

    • @tajtcam
      @tajtcam 2 месяца назад

      @@ggdfggdfgdffgfddg34 I would always recommend adding any kind of additional weight on the same access and in line with the steadicam post. An extra weight maybe needed, especially for a camera that is only 700 grams, because at a certain point, it is just not physically possible to attain a 3 to 5 second drop time.

    Hello, I have a question regarding deciding what springs to use and xtune configuration. To start with, i have the chimera one, which is already 5.5Kg / monitor 1.5kg/ counter ballance 2.5kg / and at least 1 vmount for the volt under the sled 1kg / and 2 more for the camera each 1kg. the total weight before the adding the camera setup is already about 13Kg Adding the camera setup about 10kg shooting with the alexa 35 ( 3kg ) - adding focus motor / mattebox / transmitter - lenses Cooke s4i( between 1.5kg /2.7kg) Total is about 23kg let's say. In smartsystems arm X1 weight chart it shows upper ones both blue and lower ones both black ( this setup covers between 21kg and 27kg ) 4 blue springs reaches 21kg. My question is, with these weights technically this is the correct springs installed correct? and how do i decide the xtune on the 4 seperate springs with this setup? thank you in advance and sorry for the extremely long comment

    • @tajtcam
      @tajtcam 3 месяца назад

      That chart is a good starting point. However, I found that sometimes using different spring combinations based on load capabilities of each bone gives you a more iso feeling.
