Model Making Maniac or MMM video of my reconstructed 3D SABER flying at the beach. Model Making Maniacs or MMM should be posting some more videos soon on Ray's $150 Drone maiden. This video shows how much trimming needed to be done to get the plane to fly straight and level. The motor had quite a downward tilt after the last repairs which took a while to diagnose.

I do not understand why the trainer has zero control when in trainer mode. The trainer should have control all the time without having to flick a switch. In other words any input from the trainer should override the student. Also I would assume and hope the trainer can give only the controls he wants to give to the student. Ie just ailerons and throttle for example.
hi guys how do i make it so that my throttle is assigned to channel 1 ? on the flysky remote
Thank you for showing how to do this😊
Can you help me plz ..when I trun the power button..i am getting a loading screen and I it's turning off..I haven't Hear a sound like your in vdo
Make sure you hold the power button for a while. You need to keep it pressed the whole time the loading screens is on (the one that shows the dots moving across the screen) If you release too early it just turns itself off again.
When you fitted the battery in a later model in the space in the fuselage beneath the wings did you remove the plastic frame that the two front wing retaining screws, screw into, how did you retain the wings in place?
The battery is fitted into the cockpit behind the motor with a small ESC. The Receiver is fitted under the wings with the excess servo wires tucked in. I also have a small battery charge monitor connected to the receiver that fits under the wing as well. The plastic frame is unchanged from the original model.
@modelmakingmaniacs8600 must have been changes from the early 707 to the 707s, because one I saw earlier didn't have the plastic cowling on the wings, but had a front wedge protrusion on the wings that locked onto a receiving unit under the domed section of the fuselage
Were I still in the market for a bigger plane that 1300mm PA-18 would be high on the list, boys. FMS stuff is always so nicely packed and generally is a dream to fly. My old SuperEZ v4 PNP that we got in a sale years ago for the bargain price (with floats) for about AU$210 landed does get a run occasionally (with RC noise maker installed to scare the flying vermin!) but mostly we're into Minis these days. Easier to carry, smaller and cheaper batteries and not so many tears when the inevitable Kamikaze landing occurs. 😉😊
Yes, I'm getting better at avoiding the hard landings. Hopefully this one will give me some good flying time.
Your best video yet fellas! he he
Ahh yes, thank you for your feedback. I love the end result. Another one being put together right now. :-)
Mine is coming today 😊 but it’s been raining all week 😅 P.S should I keep the box and foam for keeping it?
I recommend keeping the box and foam. The plane is small and fragile. I keep mine in the original packaging.
@@modelmakingmaniacs8600 thanks a lot
What an awesome flying location! I love my Phoenix S 1600 but have found that when using deep flaperons, you have to transition to rudder as the ailerons have almost zero effect. Using a thermal setting of about 3° flaps is really nice when hunting for lift though. It is such a floater on a warm day.
Fantastic bit of beach on weekdays. can be a bit crowded on weekends. Thanks for the tip on flap settings for thermal flying. Can't wait for summer to try it out.
Loving watching all your videos guys! Do you mind me asking how much you paid for the phoenix? Its currently $200 aussie and trying to work out if that is too much?
I purchased the PNP version from Banggood.com for $180 AUD delivered. Waiting for the specials and keeping an eye on the website pays off.
@@modelmakingmaniacs8600 Thankyou!!
Great maiden! I have 4 or 5 flights on mine now and I'm really enjoying it. I purchased the kit version and fitted an N2830 motor with a 40A Hobbywing ESC. I highly recommend setting up flaperons, both for thermalling and landing.
Great feedback Collin. I'm setting up flapperons now and testing them.
What size motor and esc are you using, eddy ryan
I fitted a 20Amp ESC (HobbyWing SkyWalker), and the motor is a RACESTAR 2212 , 1400Kv, 7.5 X 46 Folding Prop.
@modelmakingmaniacs8600 thank you for the information, much appreciated 👏
Useful ! Thanks
Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
can i connect it to my PC usb port to charge?
Let you know on this question in a couple of days.
you can, it has an onboard charger via usb-c (bottom usb port)
is this the lbt version? I don't have as many protocols to chose from.
We will get back to you on this question in a couple of days.
Plans?
This was purchased from banggood.com for about AUD $100. I don't think is is still available from that site.
Hi, I'm in the US and found a Skylark S kit, and your video looks helpful, but maybe 20-30 seconds in, the clarity disappeared, everything blurred, and I''d love to view it clearly. Is there a way to clear up the video? Thanks much, Bruce in Texas
Hi Bruce, I just watched the video again and seems to play OK? Maybe a problem at your end. Good luck mate.
Hello, I have a fsi6 radio just like yours, but when I turn on trainer mode, it turns on full throttle and flaps. I haven't seen anyone with this issue. If you have advice that'd be great. Thanks
Let me check
There are better for the price. Ah well. It's already a bonus it can fly upside down.
Beautiful vid nice job, nice flying
Thanks for your comments, a fun plane to throw about.
Nice skills Rob and a good landing
This is a great location. Just spent the afternoon flying my ZoHD "no flight controller" resurrected from the scrap heap.
Yep. A nice glider but not regretting that we didn't get 1 of these in the recent sell-out. The motor mounting area is a bit weak and we have no suitable area for wide ranging gliding flights at our old mining tailing strip. Surprised that you didn't have trouble with picking up magnetic sand into the motor there - a bad problem chez-us. We're much more into the minis these days. The bigger stuff mostly just hangs from the shed ceiling. My FMS SuperEZ gets the occasional run but it also glides forever and takes some care to put it down easy on the tree-bordered strip. The Kmart twins and AtomRC Flying Fishes are the weapons of choice to wheel with the birds. 😉😊
Might blow the motor with compressed air once the thing dries out. Fun day flying though. A few scary moments but came home in one piece, and the glider was fine too. :-)
What was the price on the sell out? Unsure if I should pick one up at 200$ or if I should wait for the 2000v2 to be back in stock!
@@georgesmith5598 No idea what the price in the UK might have looked like. Something like 60 Quid for us from the Oz warehouse for the PhoenixS. All long gone now.
@@theoztreecrasher2647 thanks! I’ve moved to Aus now so trying to find a nice new hobby!
@@georgesmith5598 Welcome! What was your crime? 🧐😜😊
After searching a while I found today a stupid trick to keep your settings on the student tx, specially the stick mode,if you don’t switch the student tx to student mode you keep the settings and the tx just sends the ppm signal to the trainer to, channels are equal but you have to change the other settings manually
Thanks for your comments. We now use Radiomaster / Eachine TX16S transmitters. Might create a video on Student mode for the new TXs?
Good video thanks. I have the same one and am not sure if I have an issue with the rudder, there seems to be very little resposne from it (maybe 5mm max from one end to the other) that's whether it's in 3g/6g or high/low sensitivity mode. Do you find yours is responsive?
I have the rudder control horn set to innermost hole, (most movement) and had to cut the fuselage where the control rod exits the fuselage to ensure it did not fowl on the end of the exit hole. Still don't get very much rudder control.
Did you ever get it in the air ? I can't find any videos of you flying the drone.
Video will be coming soon. Been a bit busy at the moment.
See this new video for our flight review. ruclips.net/video/Qee7qydDLRg/видео.html
Great video, Guys. Thank you!
The skylark is one of Raymond's favorite planes. Many flights, no crashes.
what is that trainer plane in the background?
The plane in the background is a scratch build Sky Arrow. Made out of foam sheets cut to measure. Using plans from Julius Perdana on RUclips. nice slow plane. I modified the plans to a standard tail configuration.
Cool!
I followed to the T and cant get mine bind. Same radio, brand new cub??

@@modelmakingmaniacs8600 Thanks!
Can you do the same on the radio master pocket transmitter?
Hi thanks for the great videos, I live in hallet cove and overlook the headland. I have been hoping to see you there. Your vidoes about the phoenix adding flapperons has got me thinking about doing something similar to my own homemade powered glider. I am only new to rc flying and finding sites to fly is difficult any suggestions. Have you thought about doing videos for learner flyers.
Thanks for your comments. The Phoenix glider is very fast and needs a long landing strip. I don't think I'll try fly it at Hallett Cove. I've configured Flaperons, but it handles very differently and can stall on landing approach. I'm still learning how to manage the landings with flaperons. Learner videos is a great idea. Watch this space.
Hi I like your videos I am new to flying I live at Hallett cove and have not had the confidence to fly off of the cliffs. I have built a plane called a photon made from foam board there are a lot of videos showing the building methods which I have copied. This model is a power glider of 1.6 mts. I had a friend fly it for me at the local flying club. I have watched you videos of slope soaring at Hallett cove . I wish you would do more slope soaring videos with information for learners. Cheers keep up the good work thanks
Thanks again for your feedback. Beginner videos for slope soaring is a great idea and I'll put something together soon.
Thank u sir
Thanks for watching.
does this also work with other xk products?
Can't really say as the cub is the only one we have tried so far.
Pelo que percebi! Está com pouco motor.
Now has a 7.5 X 46 folding propeller and BR 2212 , 1400KV motor. 20 AMP ESC.
Nice build!! Looks a lot like the one I built but I'm a total newb and placed all my electronics other than the esc outside the hull. I wish I saw this video earlier. I tried drilling out the wing spar hole with a copper tube. I think the way you did it looks much easier. I might try that on my next build
Thanks for your comments.
Where are you flying this plane. I am at Hallett Cove are you in city parklands?
This video was shot at Victoria Park in Adelaide. We have another Phoenix video shot at Hallett Cove South Australia.
just got red cheetah glider and also want to make this RC (and even FPV because i have TX06 FPV system)
good fun to fly in an up draught off a small cliff or sand dune.
@@modelmakingmaniacs8600 i don't have any hills in area but i already mount small brushless motor on nose of the plane and i cruise around above fields, very good cheap aricraft indeed
Beautiful first flight. Jee that is really fast as well. Good vid well done.
Thanks for your comments.
The Volantex 1600mm wingers have always been beautiful gliders. Best to add flaps or flapperons to set her down slow and gentle though. Wouldn't want to have a high speed head-on with that gang of Woodies! 😉😊
Flaperons configured. Now waiting for the right conditions to test them.
Easy as. Great video fellas as ever 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
The old Volantex Phoenix is a great glider. But not for us Old Farts these days. Nose-mounted motors are pretty well verboten and the weight limits and RID coming in on big stuff kills all but tiddlers for us.
I was unaware we had restrictions on weight and design of RC Gliders in SA? All my gliders are motorised, and do not have (RID) Remote ID capability?
@@modelmakingmaniacs8600Regulations will be pretty well universal around the world soon. Some countries are even tougher - eg UK requires registration for ANY UAV no matter what the weight if it has a camera. Japan has non-rego limit of 100gms. Flying only at registered Model Aircraft Club fields by members usually gets you off all the limits but anywhere outside the gates you're back in the daisy-doo!
Thanks for the feedback.
Great vid Ray and Charlie looks a decent model.
Thanks for that. Looking forward to flying this plane. (Slope Soaring)
Thanks for this have to play teacher very shortly decided to do it the proper way.👍
Good luck. :-)
Thank you.

I have a 3d profile plane that size..i lost elevator control at 70 feet high today..a new rx tape did not hold and u think elevator unplugged..Amazing it hit nose at 40 plus mph...Zero damage! This 3d planes are in a class of there own ...this one may be next on my list i have liked it for a fee years and volantex makes great planes imo..happpy flying

Hi Steven. should be in Singapore in a few weeks.
Thank you so much
No problem
Watch out for the sheoaks along River Road!!!
Years of experience mean nothing when you are in a tree Ha Ha.
Thank you for the information. It took me a while to get it working but it seems to be doing fine now. Slightly annoying most of the information out there is for the older version using the KN protocol. I did need to update the multi-module firmware to get the mode switching working for reason and unless I'm mistaken the rates switch doesn't actually do anything but other than that I'm fairly happen. Now to get the CG a bit better (bit too aft for my liking from factory.)
We agree that the rates switch does nothing.
hi, thanks for the video. I want to ask how to connect the audio ts cable with the servo cable. A drawing please. Thank you
See the video at 2:39 for how to connect the servo cable to the PPM receiver and Simulator dongle.
Covering would be a completely new experience for me but it’s a bucket list project that i am working on
The end result is so satisfying. I love the look of a balsa wing covered in transparent film.
