Wide variety of boats entered in the 2022 Race to Alaska. Most of the video focuses on the clever ways people have created a means to move their boats with human power. This was filmed June 15th from the Causeway Floats in Victoria, British Columbia.
How do folks in small open boats get food for that long of a race ????
Dehydrated food similar to what would be used for backpacking is a primary option because it's light and packs small. There are towns and communities along the way so racers can also buy food as they go. However north of Vancouver Island the communities are spread out and many northern communities are too far off the main race route to make resupplying at them practical. The small crafts really have to plan out food because weather can really impact their time between resupply points.
It's not just Tally Ho, then!
Thanks for sharing. Wish I could be up there.
@@SoItGoesCAL34 Glad you enjoyed it.
Tks for editing that first song into it. What a crazy regatta! I love it!
It's a fun race to follow and is always filled with amazing people.
This Imo is some of the best footage of the art of water 😊travel! Reminds me of VB company in California(vitamin blue). Thanks for posting. Dry sasklander here looking for rain(3dayer)….
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great footage!! Who made it out of the harbor first? I've always thought it would be fun to be in a little kayak or row boat and briefly be "winning" the race. Also, tell team tips up that they have some explaining to do to my wife as to the root of my plans for 2026
Glad you enjoyed the footage. Last year we had 2 cameras on the water and this year we had a camera on land with a serious zoom. It's fun to change it up and get different footage. "Let's Wing It" was the first one out of the harbor or around Ogden Point. The race tracker from the official site let's you replay the race from a computer. At the bottom of the tracker screen change the date to Elapsed Time and you can get a playback of the race.
@@Janchez awesome
Great footage !1
Thanks!
what a crazy little boat Jim Hueman has.
And he covered hundreds of miles in it from Port Townsend, Victoria then north and back to Port Townsend.
The 2024 race has started and 7 boats have ducked into the Dungeness Spit for protection. Based on the current forecast they will face similar conditions that can be seen in this video when they strike back out to cross to Victoria. Good luck racers!
Makes you wonder which is the most efficient, oars, pedal drive, or sculling
You actually could have a race to Alaska..... from Prince Rupert B.C.Canada
Hey..... ~. The Big Guy ~. absolutely needs to offer TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS to THREE CLASS's of participants. There's the big boat class: Corsair 780 or Dragonfly. You know they are going to win from the dock here. Very obvious. But then How about SOLO. So if you go it alone ~ That's another Class. And then TWO PERSON. So if you have two people that is another class. Somehow split things up. MOST of these people know that they will not win. Why bother?
I see a flexiable drive shaft.. those are great but they dont have the same efficiency.. Was this the best solution?
nice!
Thank you, it was a fun one for us.
Where can I find more info about this boat?
It's my understanding Hornblower built off of this plan angusrowboats.com/pages/sailing-rowcruiser You may be able to DM him from his socials on the Race to Alaska team page.
Thank you, a great race, good to see many different sail boats and crews.
It's amazing to see what people come up with for this race. We have a dock walk video in the works that will show a little more detail on some of the boats. Stay tuned for that one.
Thanks for the posting! I wish we'd been in touch, we could have whipped up a leeboard for him!
I know, I am thinking next year to bring some lumber along we could donate if we come across a broken boat.
Not quite sure what that is ...??.. That was Colin Angus ...😆🤫😆
Fascinating perspective on a Wacky Racer boat race. Thanks for sharing!
Definitely an interesting race from many perspectives. Thanks for the comment.
