    4 is not for chest, and 6 is not for shoulder. It depends on where your hand is in relation to what is being attacked. If I attack your chest when your hand is way over in 4 already, you are going to take a 6.

    Isn't parry four supinated, with the wrist facing upwards?

    • @donaldbadowski6048
      @donaldbadowski6048 2 месяца назад

      It can be. Pronated 4 is really an epee thing, to maintain opposition on riposte. But if you fence both foil and epee, you will tend to start doing it pronated all the time.

    **fought VERY VERY OCCASIONALLY to the death. that stuff is a cinema trope, a fight to the death is a rare spectacle in gladiator arenas. and i believe mightve been sometimes on accident. it is a big big thing, tho. not something you see everyday. something like szilagyi at his peak vs sanguk in the 2019 season, you dont see that shit everyday. and i bet there could a dispute being settled between fighters, as well. its like federico malagutti vs keith farrell, dont tell me you dont want to see who wins for good. plus, youd very quickly run out of fighters with any actual competency if that were the case, and a bunch of idiots flailing sticks wouldnt be very fun to watch, i bet. and skilled fighters, those guys are also masters of showmanship to some degree, those guys are fucking valuable.

    I learnt so, you have to finish the parry until you finish the backward step, so these are simultaneous actions. In a middle distance situation, you cant move away from a fast lunge with one backward step, you also have to parry.

    The Gladius Hispalense the Romans used is a creation of the Spaniards......and the first sword fighting manuals and masters were all Spaniards.

    I don’t want to sound dismissive, but this video propagates a lot of fallacies concerning swordsmanship and history. If anyone is wanting to learn the history of swordsmanship or (historical) fencing, then this is not where to look. Although the final part about famous women etc. might be fully accurate, as I don’t know a lot about famous olympic fencers or olympic events.

    As someone who speaks and watches videos of modern and historical fencing, as well of military history, in French, English and Spanish. It seems to be a disagreement on which nation invented modern fencing. Spanish, Italians , and French claim is theirs, and now you’re telling me it may have been German or English. To my knowledge most of the theory is from the Italian schools with a bit of Spanish hand/wrist maneuvering, but the small sword /espadin in Spanish and simply épée (sword in French ) was used in France . When France gained power over the Spanish and italian territory, they incorporated the schools of fencing to their dueling sword, adapting their methods and techniques to a smaller sword. Foil used to be the practice weapon for the smallsword but it wasn’t a good representation, so they came to the creation of the “epee”.the sabre in the other hand took longer to be added. The English school (which derived from the Angelos and Scottish broadsword) and the dueling systems from the continent differed in method and aim. The militaristic use of the saber came to an end after the First World War, once abandoned , the continental dueling system which was a synths of Hungarian and italian methods became the sole survivor of the many saber methods, it was then added to the sport, as it was faster, less harmful, and agile than the militaristic versions and dueling systems across Europe. In second thought modern fencing it’s mostly Italian due to it’s technique corpus, Regardless of which country converted to a sport practice.
