    Freqtrade is a joke! The only strategy the new edition will run is the sample strategy. I over wrote the sample strategy in notepad with one of the freqtrade strategies from the website, and that wouldn't even run.

    I'm having issues with the Install Docker step. I get the following line: curl: (6) Could not resolve host: "get docker url" (I can't post the actual url in the comments) Any workarounds or known reasons for the error/message?

    • @OMGTheCloud
      @OMGTheCloud 18 дней назад

      Hard to tell if you're using the correct URL from your comment; I'll put brackets around them here so YT comments wont go crazy on us here :) Are you trying to use [get.docker.com] or are you trying [get.docker.url] ? Your comment sounds like the latter of the two? If you are in fact using [get.docker.com] which is correct, then I suspect you're having a local DNS issue, as it sounds like the machine cannot resolve that URL.

      @OMGTheCloud 18 дней назад

      @@tufantokatl6963 I see what you’re saying. In this case, you are using the Containerized install option of Home Assistant. It’s not my favorite, as it means you have no ability to use Add-Ons directly (though “Add-ons” generally are just containers, so you can manage them fully on your own). My experience in home automation has lead me to have a strong desire to keep my Home Assistant fully deployed to separate hardware, and treat it more as an appliance that is part of my home, much like an alarm panel, irrigation controller, etc. I dont really like it doing double-duty, as things can go poorly, which reduces the Wife Acceptance Factor drastically :) I would be interested in learning more about your setup, please share!

    Wouldn’t that little solar panel have too much voltage drop going below the Vddmin of the charger chip?

    • @OMGTheCloud
      @OMGTheCloud Месяц назад

      Good question - in practice, the solar panel outputs ~6v during full sun, which keeps the charge circuit running. With an ESP32 configured to run in deep-sleep, and only wake up every 10 min to send sensor values, it is plenty to keep the battery topped off during daylight hours, and run continuously. I have a weather station that has been running in a distant corner of my property for about 3 years, with no issues. It wakes up every 10min, reports temp, humidity, batt voltage, wifi RSSI, all via MQTT, then goes back to sleep. The other key for remotely managing a deep-sleep device, is when it wakes up, it also checks for a retained MQTT message to see if it is supposed to stay awake. When this message is posted and it sees it at its' next wake cycle, it stays awake. This lets me do config changes or firmware updates, then send it back to sleep. This is all ESPhome firmware, hooked into Home Assistant.

  • @jack91522
    @jack91522 2 месяца назад

    Is it better to put esp to modem sleep and wait for a wake signal or put it into deep sleep and periodically wake up to see if there’s anything actionable?

    • @OMGTheCloud
      @OMGTheCloud Месяц назад

      Deep sleep is best, for power saving. It should wake up on a configured interval, send its' sensor data, and check to see if the MQTT retained message to "stay awake" is set to true / 1, if not it goes back to sleep. Hope this helps! BTW, I have a battery powered weather station that has been running for about 3. years like this :)

Too bad for the big fat dual xeon with quadro's, but we''ll have to do with the crappy OS-Agent With soo many other tools needed and a much broader known distro like ubuntu in the community ... why would home assistant go with the task specific and almost businesslike debian ? :\

    • @OMGTheCloud
      @OMGTheCloud 3 месяца назад

      Fair question. I suspect Home Assistant is not putting much in the way into development efforts for supporting outside of their own HA OS, which is understandable. Drawing the line in the sand and saying "pure Debian 12 only" is probably as much commitment to third-party OS'es as they can justify.

  • @robertdalga128

    So what happens when a new version of Debian or Raspberry Pi OS is released? Will there be tons of problems with HA?

    • @OMGTheCloud
      @OMGTheCloud 3 месяца назад

      Good question! First, Raspberry Pi OS is not supported, so we’ll toss that one out straight away. Debian can be in-place upgraded very easily, as I demonstrate in the video, by starting with Debian 11 (bullseye) and upgrading to Debian 12 (bookworm). Simple process of updating the repository to look for the new target branch, and kicking off the upgrade. By design, Debian and pretty much all modern Linux distributions, can be upgraded in-place, indefinitely.

    Thank you for putting this together. Can you mix and match regular format for storage in the Services section with the Volume section? You jump right in to the Media folders section without discussion the first three lines in the Volumes section. Are they all required? What if I wanted to keep my existing /config mount in my services section, like this: "- $DOCKERDIR/appdata/plex:/config"? Also, what about the transcoding section: "- /dev/shm:/data/transcode". Is this ok left in its regular format in the Services section?

    • @OMGTheCloud
      @OMGTheCloud 3 месяца назад

      Sure can! Volumes can mix and match, and are independent of each other. For example you can have your Plex config as a named-volume mount, while passing your media directories as NFS mounts. Stay tuned, I have an updated version of this deployment coming soon, as Plex has changed a bit, and I've learned some new tricks along the way myself :)

The permission/options I am using on the VM to successfully mount NFS (on proxmox) are not working inside the container. I assume you can simultaneously mount NFS on the VM and inside the container? Thanks again for the vid! Super helpful! Dumb question: Did you have a monitor and keyboard connected up to your single board computer to do all of this (i.e. from the command line)? Reason I ask is I recall previously imaging a micro SD card for my Raspberry Pi with the latest Raspberry Pi OS which is a port of Debian Bookworm with the Raspberry Pi desktop. If I do this again I assume that's the OS I need to get started, correct?

    • @OMGTheCloud
      @OMGTheCloud 3 месяца назад

      Great question! Certainly depends on which SBC and OS you are using. Some may have ssh enabled by default with a known default user/pass, in which case you could just flash the uSD card and boot, find the device's IP on your network, and ssh right in, others may require you to install it. Raspberry Pi OS for example in previous iterations, you just had to have a "ssh" file present in the /boot directory, which you could do right after flashing it, and that was enough. Short answer: It depends!

    Thanks so much for publishing your vid on how to install HA Supervised! This is extremely helpful to those of us with 'limited' backgrounds in computer programming (especially when it comes to operating systems other than Windows based machines). I'm going to give it a try (I have been running HA OS for over a year now) since I would like the option to be able to run additional packages outside of HA OS on my Raspberry Pi (e.g. python) and running HA full screen in Kiosk mode (since HA OS is a headless unit).

If you do have the need to run other containers, I recommend checking my HA Container video (last one in this series) if that's a good option for you.

Would it be possible to make a "more scientific" assessment of the bonding/adhesion energy by comparing the adhesion force vs a chemical glue (epoxy) put at the same edge location? Now, of course the bonding effectiveness will depend on the materials we want to bond. Ideally, the material of what we want to bond should be the same plastic as the 3D printer filament.

      Great idea! I'm not sure I have the equipment to measure the strength in a scientific way (other than me pulling on it until it breaks!). The goal and theory behind friction welding is as you mention: we are bonding the pieces using the same material and thermal adhesion properties as the part was originally formed from. If we think of this a bit in the "weakest link in the chain" concept, we do not gain any overall strength in the part by making the bond between them stronger than the overall 3D printed parts' layer adhesion. So, if we can make the bonded joint equally strong with friction welding, we've made the overall part as strong as it possibly can be :)

    • @therealaizensama
      @therealaizensama 4 месяца назад

      I guess that a priori if same materials are involved in the friction welding we should expect the highest bonding "potential" as if 3d printed however intuitively a deposit of molten filament vs a high friction speed does not enable the same entanglement of the polymers at the interface. For the normal 3D printing, there is some time left for the molten plastic to adhere with the lower layer with the help of gravity. For the friction approach, it is quite a sudden (i guess higher temperature than with the extruder) rearranging/melting of the plastic locally. You never know, might be that with a thermal camera to check at which rotation speed corresponds to the 3d printer extruder temperature. You can even plan for a DOE/publication/partnership with a university, because to me all what you are showing is subject to fields in tribology (applicable in many fields).

      Both great questions! Lowest energy consumption would be fully dependent on the ESP32 board chosen, which we can look at its' spec sheet for operating power requirements. Without the battery, the project should still fully work! ... when the sun is shining :) If you had a use case with only wanting to get sensor data during the day, that could do the trick, just leave the battery out of the circuit!

      I’ve heard of those, but never tried one. Any suggestions? I wonder as far as structural strength, would a 3D pen also be melting the material on the pieces you are joining, or would it just sort of “inject” plastic into the crack? Could end up with a cold joint 🤔

    • @EvanzoZubinsky
      @EvanzoZubinsky 4 месяца назад

      @@OMGTheCloudI doubt it. 3d pen is basically hand held extruder, so bond strength is roughly the same as layer adhesion. Friction welding is probably stronger. I prefer fusing parts together using brush and DHM.

    • @EvanzoZubinsky
      @EvanzoZubinsky 4 месяца назад

      @@OMGTheCloud Yes it is, dichloromethane is a solvent that disolves PLA just like acetone disolves ABS, it evaporates in seconds, so you've got to be quick: apply little bit of DHM on one of the surfaces, quickly press it to another and hold for 5-10 seconds, it will fuse together very fast, but it will take about half an hour for PLA-DHM mix to cure completely and reach it's full strength. Caution: DHM is moderately toxic, so it is recomended to use it in well ventilated room and use eye protection and gloves

    2 x 3.5" HDDs for a homelab? To store what exactly?

    • @OMGTheCloud
      @OMGTheCloud 5 месяцев назад

      Fair question! At the time of the build, the challenge was finding cost-effective 2.5" HDDs that were at least 4TB, and did not use SMR layout, which is a massive performance killer on a RAID array. Certainly other ways to approach it, based on your storage needs, and this area has changed a bit since this project debuted. What would be a good target size for mass storage in your opinion? For me, I'd like to see at least 8-10TB usable space!

    • @aeiplanner
      @aeiplanner 5 месяцев назад

      @@OMGTheCloud A typical home has at least a couple (2-3 PCs/Macs). Assuming each has a 1TB of storage, you would need at least double of that for Time Machine or similar backup. So that's a min of 4-6 TB right there. Then you have your mobile phones, which....if you were to have an equivalent of a $10/mo 2TB iCloud storage, would get you up to ~8TB. But then you have your PLEX/Jellyfin, Nextcloud, and general file storage. Realistically speaking, if you want room for growth, it has to be a minimum of a 24TB of usable storage. That said, why not just throw a basic TrueNAS Core set up with multiple drives in the garage, and point your Homelab server to that box for targeted storage? I'd rather fill the box you made with SATA or NVME SSD's for faster access and longer term storage in garage. Heck some of the stuff you can get off AliExpress now is dirt cheap and would easily do the job of a general purpose NAS.
