In my popular video "How To Track Trains" released in 2021, I incorrectly stated that railroads communicate via the amateur radio band. This is incorrect and was a simple miscommunication. This has stirred up some comments and because I can't revise the video without taking it down, I'm releasing this video as a formal apology for spreading misinformation. Thank you guys for understanding and s...

Pioneer Tunnel & Steam Train - [QUICKIE #2]
If anyone is wondering how to make a layout show "Realistic" aspects even though most layouts on the ATCSMon version don't carry that function and no such mnemonics exist, you can setup expressions that detect for the position of a switch or if a track is occupied or not. To detect if a train is not in a block use the ! before the expression. This takes alot of practice but is the best way to get semi realistic signal aspects. Be warned that it may detect trains that are not actually there.
it would be neat if a train ride went to Hanover PA.. or even from Gettysburg. Gettysburg is supposed to come back this year
that would be nice
The train station is open on the 1st and the 3rd Sunday of the spring, summer and fall months. The station is open on September 15th, October 6th and 20th, November 3rd and 17th, December 1st and 15th. On Wednesday nights the CVMRR works on the layout and fix any problems that the layout might have like track work or wiring. On September 15th will be a special train on the HO scale layout of the old mail car that got turned into the train layout and we are working on the HO scale layout the station has 2 scales and they are the Lionel tinplate or O scale and G scale. In the train car the Club is slowly working on getting the N scale to be on the layout so people can see how big the scale really is from N scale to G scale
thx
@@crissrails7539 The train station will also be open on October 26th for the New Oxford Fall festival
This is very helpful! I hope someday it will be a lot easier for us non-tech folks to track trains.
Thx
I need help finding my railroad division, I am near columbus and the line nearest to me runs through Delaware. Its Norfolk Southern
Hi. There are division maps online, check one of those to see if you find your line.
Gettysburg and Northern is an active railroad and they are bringing back the scenic line and also a freight railroad. If you get a chance you can follow the Gettysburg and Northern railroad all the way to Mount Holly Springs Pa and all the way back to Gettysburg Pa with the new diesel locomotive. I always look at the signs for railroad. If you ever get a chance please look at the train station at New Oxford Pennsylvania and there is a train station that got turned into a museum and it is awesome to see
wow. thanks for the great info
Well done. I need to get up there sometime.
wish it wasnt so loud inside. wanted to record the guy explaining everything
Since around February TM5 is all greyed out along the Lurgan line and most of PA in general, other than the Harrisburg yard. Have you noticed this too? Are there any updates or anything I can do? Thanks!
I have also noticed the issue. It’s been down in that area for a while and still is. I’m not sure what’s going on but hopefully they will fix the issue soon!
Sort of ironic this tutorial here you made uses that section of track. I also saw the flat screen at the high line station in Greencastle is now turned off too 😔
How do I find Mileposts in my area?
ruclips.net/video/m7NYkCiHIPE/видео.htmlsi=GFzKEsjkMuICzitJ Hopefully this helps you
It did! Thank you, I really appreciate it.
Great video. Thank you. I learned a lot. Don’t worry about the ham radio operators who seem worried about you mentioning the ham radio bands. These people are known as SAD HAMS and they are pathetic, lonely, amateur radio operators who think they know everything about everything and they get some sick pleasure out of letting everyone else know when someone makes a mistake. Just ignore them.
thx

Great video! Thank you for sharing this wonderful history. I'm watching this the day before my trip to Gettysburg! It's one of my favorite places to go to, and this video inspires me to learn even more about the railroad history through Gettysburg.
Thanks. enjoy your trip
Background musc too loud, voice. way to low. I wish creators would think of the hearing impaired

This place seems awesome. Never knew it existed just in shippinsburg
10bucks to get in and you leave with a million bucks of pennsy rr history thats a very good deal,,,,thanks for sharing
You got that right! Thanks for watching!
quit saying guys. there are women who watch.
Maybe I will start saying Hi Everyone in the future after my next video.
Totally random but I have about 1700 linear feet of the old pikes peak rail made in Chicago in 1891 I It’s the same rail Nicola Tesla rode on to access his test eq at the top of pikes peak in Colorado I actually rode on that specific rail when I was stationed in Colorado Springs Thank you for sharing your information
Very cool! A great piece of railroad history for sure
Est.1832-1975
Take it from a local, the name of the town is pronounced Strasburg, NOT Stroudsburg. Stroudsburg is up in the Poconos in Pennsylvania. Also Lancaster is NOT pronounced Lan-cas-ter, it is properly pronounced Lancaster all the syllables run together. You are NOT located in East Stroudsburg Pennsylvania either. That is up in the Pocono Mountains.
Im from NJ and thats the way I say Lancaster is the way we say it in NJ. sorry if my accent sounds different to your ears. Peace and Love
Nice tour. It's been a while since I've been to the RR Museum of Pennsylvania.
Thanks

Is there a place which provides the locations of hotbox detectors?
I don’t believe there is a map showing hot box locations specifically, but generally they are always about 20 miles apart from each other”
Thanks so much, would there be a link to the primary radio frequencies somewhere? @@crissrails7539

Underrated channel!
Thanks
Hey! That was worth watching. You must have just started your channel (443 subs as of today, 09.Feb.2024) but your work is already similar to any channel with 200k subs.
Thanks for watching
Railroads don't use amateur radio frequencies. They use frequencies located above the Amateur radio bands. Ham Radio has nothing to do with Railroads even if you can use a Ham Radio to monitor railroads.
Hi. We released a video addressing this mistake.. ruclips.net/video/rMWDp-t4BNc/видео.htmlsi=nsUGAqkirrwhkKdN
This comment maybe long overdue, but I'll put on the table. According to what you said or how said it about Railroad Radio use the Amateur Radio Frequencies, which sounded strange. However, I knew what you meant in VHF spectrum near the 2m Band, Right? Anyone knows that it is unlawful to transmit on AAR Channels with permission, which unless you land a job with a railroad, you'll never be granted permission. Although, according to the FCC rules and regulations, only in extreme emergencies are you allowed to transmit frequencies not available to the average individual. But the must be if the Engineer and Conductor are unable call for help and you yourself are unable get a cell phone signal. Other than that, you can listen all you want, but if you decide to press the PTT, you will face charges longer than most trains.
Thanks for this video. I just started using TM5 and find it a little confusing. Do people ever add layouts or is what I see now (about 53 layouts) all there is?
I believe they add layouts every once in a while. I'd keep checking You can also upload your own layouts, maybe I'll make a video on that sometime
I only clicked on this because I saw that the Lurgan Branch was included and I got happy to see my territory get (somewhat) highlighted for once.
thx
Quick note: That's not the amateur radio band. That's business band which is just above the ham band in both the UHF and VHF bands
Please watch my quick update video. Thx
How do I find mile posts? I'm very new to Railfanning
Check out this interactive map. You can see tons of information including the locations of mileposts. fragis.fra.dot.gov/GISFRASafety/
There are phone numbers you can get to track and catch them
really? where?
@@crissrails7539 I personally hopped the train from Wichita to Dallas-Fort Worth with a guy that had been at it for a number of years he simply pointed his phone at the train car and it sent him the text of approximate when it's supposed to leave when it's where it's going I saw this two out of the three major train systems have that and answer your question you got to get it from a train Hopper
That's some James Bond cracking the code skills there with that app!😮
Thanks
Track trains and that's really funny dude because I was literally just thinking about finding a software-defined radio for this
good stuff
1997 was the year the rail was made, Shoestring taught me that
Rip shoestring
Why anything UP sub nothings on? No signals or anything is on?
Hi. It might be caused due to an issue w the server I would try reaching out to TM5 for support
Amateur band is NOT 160MHz as stated. The 2m Band is 144-148MHz.
@CarstenBauer Also BaoCRAP is not a good radio at all, theirs a reason their a dime a dozen! #CheapChineseJunk

Found 50 and 53 this morning. Very easy to find and access. Then saw a train pulling onto the main heading south from Ship using TM5 and 12 mins later went ripping by 53 in south chambersburg. My first time. It works!
great
Good info! Waiting on my TM5 approval. Would you be cool with meeting up and showing me the ropes? I live in Chambersburg, PA.

nice. I hope it works out for you
@@crissrails7539 Seems to be working!
@0:54 "we use the tried and true ham radio of course. Railroads operate and communicate with each other and dispatch using the amateur radio band." Where did you get that idea. FALSE. FALSE. FALSE. First: "amateur radio band." "band" singular, there are several (18) amateur radio bands. Second: You may be able to use a receiver that can pick up ham bands and some adjacent frequencies but that does not mean those adjacent frequencies are part of an amateur radio band. Third: the frequencies shown in the video on the display of your receiver (160.900 and 460.450 MHz) are not in any of the amateur radio bands. Ham band charts can be found in multiple places on the Net. Just google "ham band chart". Verify what you say before acting like an authority. Edit your video or take it down.
