Wilco is not a good father nor is he a bad father. He is a flawed father. Sure he did some manipulation but that was partly due to his own fears of abandonment. And when push came to shove he always chose jinx over anything else. Even when she killed him he didn’t hate her. His you’re perfect statement wasn’t about her being jinx or powder it was about her being herself making the decision she wanted to make. Silco isn't a good person nor a good father but he definitely loved Jinx as his own sister and he did help her find some strength in herself. He was one of the only person that showed Jinx any love after Vi got imprisoned.

Eleanor Audley was a Fantastic voice for the character of Maleficent.

That ending song with the chorus is to die for. I went to a church in college that sang acapella. Over 700 people and they sounded about as good as that chorus. It really made you feel like you were in an epic story, I often got chills

Totally agree. I’m guessing your girlfriend also enjoys the older Disney movies? I agree the animation is very colorful. Once upon a dream is a very catchy song and humor is very good. It has to one of the funniest Disney movies. Maleficent was always a favorite of mine as a kid and is one of my favorite villains. Sleeping Beauty is definitely way ahead of its time and has to be one of Disney’s most feminist movies because of the three fairies having there own unique personalities and having conflict with each other, raising Aurora by themselves even King Stefan is okay with it and totally counts on them, and them helping Philip defeat Maleficent. Also Aurora having a mischievous side. It’s also nice how Aurora and Philip were unaware they were the Princess and Prince which makes there relationship feel more sincere, they are one of the best Disney couples. It’s also nice that both Aurora, Philip, and there parents win instead of just Aurora and Philip. I was born in 2004 and Sleeping Beauty is such a underrated Disney movie and is one of my favorite movies.

Thanks so much for this video! One of my two favorite Disney movies of all time. When I was young I used to think Aurora was rather dumb for apparently mistaking an owl for a prince, but upon watching it a few years into adulthood, I realized in fact how funny she is; she and Philip have a great sense of humor, and that's part of their chemistry; in fact, the whole movie makes fun of traditional fairytale conventions, from Philip telling his father that this is the 14th century now, to Hubert talking housing and castle accomodation for the betrothed, to the fairies bickering and the mop waltzing bit (and let's not forget Maleficent and her train of incompetent henchmen. Your remark on the plot not really moving forward for lack of character growth, which I find very interesting, I think the movie's aesthetic and narrative principle is more about a visual commentary on fairytales - rather than a postmodern dynamic approach as we've seen in the Renaissance era;, for instance, the waltz Aurora and Philip share in the middle of the woods is a wide shot, we are not invited to look closer in and we are not privy to whatever chatter they might have walking to the castle panorama. The movie offers a very still and out of time perspective matching the painting-like and larger than life aesthetic (which is one of the reason why, in my opinion, the movie hasn't aged a bit, compared to Lady and the Tramp for example).

i see it differently... silco didnt raise her to get at vander imo he raised her since she is what he was... abandoned, betrayed and misunderstood... he isnt a good person no but he tries to safe her threwout the years he doesnt know how to treat her mental health or anything but what he knows is that she deserves better and he tries all he can to give her everything... he gives her comfort he gives her love he gives her stuff to do in her spare time sure the stuff isnt really the good kind but the rules go differently in zaun... for me personally silco is my most loved charackter ... he was betrayed eaten up by hatred went a dark path to get revenge... after he achieved it he saw that he isnt the only one so he helped powder/jinx in the way he knows worked for him

I have to mention this every time someone says Silco is a bad father: if we're talking about OUR world, absolutely. Call CPS on him, get Powder out of there. But in the world of Runeterra, and especially in the nation of Zaun, Powder can't exist. She NEEDS to he Jinx, and Silco prepares her perfectly for the world. Alot of people say "he manipulates her, making her think how he thinks", and I just have to say, yeah? Obviously? All parents do that. That's what it is to raise a kid. You're imprinting your ideologies and morals onto the child in an attempt to make them the best person they can be, to prepare them for the world.

Coming from the standpoint of someone who has a lot of trouble trusting their own perception of reality and has a lot of abandonment issues the way silco acts makes him feel like a good father even though im aware he isnt. Im definitely easy to manipulate because of it but if someone is open and constant for me Id jump in front of a bus for them because it genuinely feels like the one time im not getting constantly pricked by needles. Like I am very aware that silco is a manipulative person but if Im looking at it from a purely internal (my own world view) silco is a good person twisted by his environment so I could see how people think hes a good father. I honestly related a lot to jinx not with the murder trauma but with not being able to trust (or form/solidify) your own perceptions of reality and lashing out because of it. I liked seeing the ending not because jinx became an evil badass but because it felt like the character I identified most with finally got a win (in the sense that she chose a reality for herself albeit with significant influence from silco's dying words)

I get that the prequels were bad. But you forgot the proper way to handle them, “What prequels? I don’t remember any prequels? Anakin? Who’s that? I only know of a dude named Darth Vader.”

He turned her hatred into a tool for his own agenda. How can anyone think this is a good trait in a fatherly figure? Preach it some more, Dr. Evil. HOW 'BOUT NO !

I don’t think the dolls were twisted trophies but physical embodiments of the voices in her head. Claggor said so little to her, so in he’s depicted as a small doll due to his small impact on her and her emotions. Milo however, still has the same impact on her emotions as he did when he was alive. Making him more life-size in her mind, constantly looming and constantly bringing her down. The stuffy was a symbol of Vi’s love and her symbol of her childhood. Since Vi was still alive, she didn’t need a new body. As for Vander, she kept his gauntlets. Probably the most impactful part of him to Powder. Since he didn’t share much of a fatherly bond with her. He was more a protector. (But maybe she didn’t make a Vander a body because she knew that he was in Singe’s basement). So yeah. During the last episode when she said “some things never stay dead” this is at least my understanding of what she meant.

I strongly disagree with the idea that Silco molded Jinx into a tool. That completely dismisses her interests that were already displayed in Act One. Jinx already wanted to build bombs and weapons that would have started working at some point without Silco kidnapping Vander. We never see him make her create anything against her will and he doesn't even really see her as an employee. Silco just got lucky that he happened to take in a kid that would turn out to be a hextech hacking genius. I'm sure that unlike Vander and Vi he had the resources to give Jinx a workshop and whatever tools/materials she wanted which def aided in her finally getting her inventions to work.

Great analysis of a great character.

So i wanted to give my view on one specific thing jinx's puppets for Milo and her other lost friend. Jinx has not, for the entire season, accepted the reality of what she did. She only does so in that final scene, a twisted "last supper" for her past. The puppets are the materialisation of her reaction of reality. For her, clagger and Milo are alive, sitting right there with her. She even hears their voices. Only once she shoots her secret weapon and destroys her past the voices stop. Powder is no more and jinx can thrive

He is a good father. He loves her unconditionally even more than his dreams or life. He trusts her completely and thinks she is perfect. He was probably a bad father but they grew to love eachother. He is just a bad person with a really messed up kid. He probably can't fix her nor thinks she should be fixed and in their world crazy and violent is what a lot of them need to survive. Just something normal ppl in a good world can't see.

Silco, a good father? No. But Jinx does change him, just as he changed her. You cannot spend years with a person in your life without being changed. For Silco, the change is especially insidious. He is ruthlessly driven to achieve his goals...yet at the moment of victory, he found that there was something he couldn't do.

Always loved that Silcos words "youre perfect" are because he was always changed by how Vander betrayed him, so to have Jinx kill him to save her sister was the biggest show of loyalty from her in his eyes

Silco is a terrible person, but he has the same abandonment issues as Jinx. Vander was his brother. And Vander betrayed him. He sees a lot of himself on Jinx. That's why he didn't kill her. Yes, he lies to her, he manipulates her. Like I said, terrible person. But he did mean it when he said he rather lose Zawn than lose Jinx. And I think for many people who watched the show, that's what makes him a 'good father'. Because those people are also traumatized children who would love to have a father willing to give up the world for them.

Powder killed Silco to protect Vi. Then Jinx killed Powder to avenge him.

Regarding even Jinx knows she's crazy, Cait says "she's too far gone" and I feel like Jinx's giggle is saying "I'm pretty far gone..."

Jinx is not a villain. Depends on perspective. For Zaun Piltover are the villains and for Piltover Zaun is the enemy. Jinx is the hero to Zaun and a villain to Piltover. Her character arc has both complete hero and villain arcs

I think it's also interesting as a parallel to episode 2. In episode 2, Vandar has no idea what he's going to do until Vi gives herself up and Vandar goes to take the fall for her. Vi was willing to give herself up for peace and to prevent those around her from being harmed. Jinx harmed others and set up the whole tea party because she did not want to be given up, and shattered peace at the mere idea of it. Jinx couldn't allow herself to accept any responsibility for her actions while she subconsciously knew she had killed them- and Silco encouraged it. So her fatal flaw of an inability to accept full responsibility for her actions (and thus learn and not repeat her mistakes) leads to the end.

I can see why people say Death is a villain, but I personally think he is neutral. He is just doing his job. Notice that he only shows up when Puss gives him the opportunity by putting himself in a position where he could die.

Silco taking Jinx as one last jab at Vander may have been a beginning positive for why he should, but he didn't think of it like that by the end, and the scene before Jinx kidnaps him is the one that tells it as it is. Even pouring one drink for him for being right about an argument they never had.

This is a wonderful video, thank you! This is my fav movie of all time, and as a child the oboe music Disney used for Maleficent would haunt me in nightmares, but I always appreciated how impactful it was. Also, side note I guess... the textures and colors in the stone walls and tree bark are so detailed and beautiful.

The shows writing of Moral Ambiguity and the intrinsic multitude of interpretations that come with it get lost in taking one's own subjective perspective as the objective truth. Much like people in reality; Words, actions and intentions can be inferred differently to the truth of what is actually implied. We are often rewarded just as much as we are punished for what we personally hold to be truly virtuous or correct endeavours. Often too blinded by our own self-righteous belief in being right to be able to see how we could possibly be wrong, it is human to desire being subjectively right over being objectively correct. We find solace in the confirmation of our bias, because we feel shame and suffering when confronted with information that contradicts our beliefs. It's painful, we actively and subconsciously avoid all pain where possible. Such mental & emotional forms of pain aren't exempt, no matter how minor they may seem at face value. The best course of remedying the issue is to be more flexible in your own perspective. "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it (or rejecting it, one might add).” - The "Quote" likely being an oversimplification and misunderstanding of Aristotle Nicomachean Ethics 1094b24-1095a by Lowell L. This may be a biased opinion to those who consider it a classic but in my opinion I think it’s kinda overrated because Aurora or Queen Leah didn’t have a enough screen time or dialogue and King Stefan is a very inconsistent character as he shouldn’t have been if Hans Conried were to remain as a voice actor for the role and not just a model. Overall it’s still an artistcally good movie with incredible animation, acting (except for Taylor Holmes), and score by George Bruns. And you’re right, their scene should have been right at the beginning and not the middle so Aurora and Leah could have given some more dialogue and screen time. I also wish Hubert were to start with reddish brown hair before it becomes white in later scenes after the beginning.

THIS really IS the ultimate animated Disney movie and if you press pause [ II ] on any indoor scene you can truly marvel at the most beautiful and detailed artwork ever put on film in all of animation history. No shortcuts or cut and pastes. THERE are 2 cool art styles, the striking 'origami-ish' (or whatever it's called) effect and then the museum worthy backgrounds where the interior design was PAINSTAKINGLY painted frame by frame which Is absolutely stunning. (Again pause to see) ONE OF THE THINGS I LOVE about old Disney movies is THAT it is ok for a BADDIE to just be BAD and evil - we DON'T need to justify their actions. Just as in real life there are bad people that shouldnt be allowed sympathy. A good moral lesson for upholding a good society in general. The MALEFESCENT FILM was great BUT I hated it for pandering to explain why its good to be evil or trying to justify a baddie. For instance, the person who punches and robs ones gran doesnt need to be pandered with justification. Bad is bad and good is good in fairytales. Sleeping Beauty is ✨🏆✨
