I've met kids of the black elite. Back in high school they weren't very impressive. Sure their parents were either academic geniuses or brilliant industrialists but their kids... meh. Despite that,they were guaranteed admission into top schools on the East Coast. Go figure.
Dr. Miles comes from an era where this group was/is so exclusionary. I have no qualms on ppl striving obtaining for excellence and a great quality of life. Many black people work hard in their jobs, homes and hold themselves to a greater standard that it bot always synonymous with being black. Now having said that, dr.. Miles and others that embrace this ideology simply don't want to be associated with anybody who is "not apart of the group". They aren't invisible they just simply hide and are removed from the masses. These elite groups have been around since the slavery and haven't been very instrumental since the civil rights movement. I understand the logic behind dr. Miles theory she has been groomed all if her life that she is genetically superior on birth right alone. Though the accomplishments of her family are great how does it fair in 2015. Most folks don't /won't care. I am a firm believer in being conscious of company you keep a persons character should trump their pedigree. Let those that believe these groups of class deem them important if that what helps them cope.

I believe other African American youth may attend the Gala if invited-it's just a matter of getting the invite-my daughter is a very hard working college student and it's hard for her to find/keep friends who are striving for success as well-so how do you meet these people-the hood/ghettos or which ever word you choose- have quite a few prominent young black youth-it's just a matter of meeting like minds, when your not from those areas.
But the question is...If there were an extremely smart and affluent African American kid that was going to that school who wasn't rich (on an academic or athletic scholarship), would he or she be invited to that gala? I think, NOT! There is nothing wrong with having money and striving to be at the top, but I felt something so completely fowl and arrogant watching this. It is almost like this woman is segregating herself and these kids from the rest of black America or "the working class". The reason she feels invisible is because she is a minority within a minority and if she were more inclusive and helped "spread the knowledge" she would not feel so alone. She came off as wanting to set herself (and the middle/upper middle class black people) apart from the working class black people as if she is who she is and everyone "beneath" her, whether financially or academically, is the just the "stereotype".
It's only a matter of time ! Elite of the elite! There is nothing wrong with being wealthy but there is something wrong with being arrogant! And middle America (non privilege blacks folks are the ones who have supported your progression) aka are your bread and butter ! What will happens when so called mediocrity no longer supports your mobility! In short "those you feel are disposable may dispose of you when your services are no longer needed or welcome ! A disgrace? You can't expect people to save people who don't want to be saved. Brothers are bleeding in the streets because they choose to. Now I do understand that these brothers and sisters need help however you can not blame another person's successful for a another person's failure.

This is the 'group' thats referred to in the video. Go ahead & be naive to think this is a positive, warm & fuzzy story the media were caring enough to air.
It is positive to show the upper class Blacks on media. It gives the rest of Blacks that regardless of racism, there are successful Blacks out there. The role models for Blacks should be people of real achievements in Law, Medicine, Business, Education, Science, Academics. Arts not just Entertainment and Sports.
Ha sanyone noticed the color disparity between the middle-class blacks and their less fortunate counterparts. Whenever they speak on poverty and inner-city dilapidation it appears that many of those blacks are darker skinned. However, when they speak on middle-class blacks it appears that they're lighter skinned. I'm not here to create a wedge between the colors. It's just something that I've noticed.
What about a show about the negatives side of white America,we will never see it will we? these shows all have one purpose and its not to help the black community.Black people wake up,look deeper into the purpose of the media
why does this ball need to be held for needy children at all? thats what the NAACP, National Urban league, and about a million other organizations are for. by the way the people who fund those organizations are the needy underprivileged, its the people in this video, keep that in mind

"...doing something for the 'privileged' children, who people who don't believe NEED anything?" -Did these children establish their own businesses? Are they being honored because their parents earnings? "Most of us are tremendously active doing things for needy children as well" -So, can this ball be held for "unprivileged" children too? What is considered needy, to the people who attend these balls?
