Morning Boat Session on Harelaw - HD 1080p
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.4 года назад
Early morning session out on the boat at Harelaw Dam. Bright sunshine and very little wind early on made it tough but a change in tactics once the breeze came done the business. Managed 5 in total, First on a black cormorant, and the rest on a grunter. Thankfully caught a couple on camera before my battery's gave up. Enjoy and Tight Lines! Introduction to my fly tying and fly fishing channel.
I’ve tied umpteen versions of the okey dokey but never with PTFE tape, this must save a lot of trouble coating bodies with UV resin, thanks for sharing, I’ll ll definitely be giving this a go.
Thanks Jim. Tight lines 🎣

My goodness, I watched this video expecting to hear some commentary on the set-up, flies or leader. Nothing! At 16 mins we hear "fish" then "Shipman buzzer does the business". Tremendous knowledge being shared. That's 17 minutes I'll never get back.
Hi mate love your videos and fly tying keep up the grate videos tight lies
Thanks Hugh! Hopefully get some more videos up this coming season. Tight lines 🎣
Looks a lovely water where is that?
Looks a cracking night for it Danny, thanks I really enjoyed that. I have subscribed.
How important is the colour of the booby eyes?
Next time get wet your hands before you do touch the fish😤
Looks a nice water where are you
Skinny Shipman’s always out fish the overdressed commercially mass tied versions. I love this colour and use them myself with some having a small amount of amber, orange, red, olive, or claret in the mix as an individual or multiple addition. At about ten to a maximum twenty percent. I also a variation that has a slightly heavier thorax with the breathers at the head and as a wing bud behind the thorax. With a floatant just on the thorax. Sits well in the surface layer or just under as part of a subsurface midge tip or intermediate line set up.
1st cast - bam!
Cheers for watching Steve. Tight lines! 🎣
Hi Danny great videos hope you dont mind me asking what's the flyline you use
Hi Jim. Thanks for watching. I think this was the airflo superflo 7# tight lines
Hi Danny! What type of rod (length, weight and action) would you recommend for fishing a washing line?
The rod I’m using in the video is a 9ft 6” Greys GRXI 7# you could try using a slightly longer rod (perhaps 10ft) as you will probably have quite a long leader/tippet and that extra length will aid in getting the flies to turn over easier. As far as action goes it doesn’t really matter as long as it suits you and the way you cast. I hope this helps and thanks for watching! Tight lines 👍
@@DannyLeitch thanks Danny!
Excellent thanks. What rod and wt are you using
Thanks for watching. The rod is a Greys GRXI 7# tight lines 👍
Where aboots is that mate
mint video what reel you use im going to try using the booby tomorrow tight lines 👍
mint vid what reel you use and im going to try using a booby on the sinking and floating line tomorrow tight lines 👍
Hi Kyle, thanks for liking my video. The reel is an old Greys GRXi, nothing fancy but it does the job. Tight lines 🎣
Fyi spare spools on ebay now going for around £10 ech.
Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully getting some fishing done next week so fingers crossed. Have you been out fishing much recently?
@@DannyLeitch I visited my local Res several weeks ago to try out a new (second hand) rod I bought Grey's platinum x 11ft3 #7. With my wonderful Sunray lines which I stumbled across last year. Wow what a beast of a rod the extra length felt strange at first but soon got used to it. Landed 6 fish, 5 on my own version of a yellow owl? and 1 on a humongous tied like Dave downie. Great fun. Ps don't listen to the Sunray haters they are now fantastic! cast like nothing else I have ever used, lie straight on water and minimal if any memory. I have Proline and gitdown sink tip. Ps don't over line with them though.
Ps also bought some neon biscuit and full pk of micro rib from your ebay site bk in june looks the business, top quality!
@@ibelieve1468 Thanks for that. Always great to have feedback. The neon biscuit has been very popular, I’ve not got much left to be honest and I hope to add another couple of colours in the coming weeks.
Hi Danny, can you wear a light coloured shirt so I can see your tying videos more clearly, thanks for sharing the video. Regards Jimf
Hi Danny ,that's a lovely tying and my ears pricked up when you said middle dropper and not a dry 😁 In my ignorance I've never fished that way and I'm 56 🤣 could you poss tell me length o cast and what the cast would consist of if that flys the middle dropper. The mind boggles buddy. I'm fishing the Lake of Menteith soon so would give it a swim there. If cant divulge your cast I totally understand. Take care 😁👏👏👏
Thanks James. A general rule of thumb I use for the leader length is twice the length of the rod although if your fishing from the boat you could shorten that a bit. In terms of fly choice, I would normally fish something bushy on the top dropper (perhaps a Soldier Palmer) and a pheasant tail nymph or similar on the point. That way you should be fishing several levels of the water column at the same time. I hope this helps and tight lines for fishing the lake.
@@DannyLeitch hi Danny that paints the perfect picture of Leader length and flies. Thanks for your kindness mate ,very much obliged and ofcourse the vids. Tightest of lines mate I honestly cant wait to try that 😁👏👏👏👏
Good stuff Danny, the Lakeland hen capes are top notch mate ..cheers Stevie
Yeah they are hard to beat mate 👍
Lovely looking wee lure mate. Nice combo of colours. I'll tie a couple up for the box and let you know how it goes.
Glad you enjoyed the video. That would be good to hear how you get on with them 👍
Nice one!
Cheers Allan
I really like that buddy 😁👌👌👌 nice colour combo and well thought out.
Thanks James 👍 tight lines 🎣
Good stuff Danny
Thanks Stevie
I note you have the greys reel can i ask what rod and line your using thanks
I was using a Sharpe’s of Aberdeen Gordon 10’ 7# and line is an airflo superflo. Thanks for watching 🎣
@@DannyLeitch thank you and thank you for posting. The reel seat is very like my Grey's platinum X and my XD. Is memory still an issue with the line? it seems to cast well but lays in coils on water. How straight does it lie on water when static?
@@ibelieve1468 yeah I wouldn’t recommend the line. It casts well enough but the memory is still a big problem 🎣
Great video again mate 🎣 I’m up at harelaw tomorrow to practice for my scierra pairs on Sunday looks a bit blowy for tomorrow but hope they will be up
Cheers mate. The video ended up a bit longer than I had planned lol. Enjoy Harelaw 👍🎣
Beautiful fly and tie, keep up the good work. I look forward to more good content in the future.
Thanks buddy 👍 really appreciate the kind words
Nice video Danny ...are you selling any ? What was the floating line you were using? Thanks for your contribution matey
Thanks John appreciate your nice comments. I have a big order going out this week so after that I’m free to tie you up some. Contact me direct at dannysdubbing@yahoo.com and let me know what you are after. Oh and the line is an Airflo superflo. Thanks again.
Cracking little pattern Danny , one of my favorites too mate ..cheers Stevie
Nice tie mate I like to use black daddies if the hawthorns are on work well
Cheers Toby. Any black hopper should do the trick buddy 👍 maybe see you up Harelaw soon if I ever get the chance to get up!
@@DannyLeitch look forward to it maybe a day on the bank with you get you up to speed with harelaw again 😂

Hi Danny. What a lovely sound. The singing reel, the true sound of fly fishing. Great informative videos. Many thanks for posting. Derick.
Thanks Derick! I really appreciate that buddy. All the best. Danny
Harelaw is that Barrhead?
Yes that’s it buddy 👍
Hi Danny, I see your water has got cormorants damaging fish, that 4 pounder had a hole in it, my club water is the same and it’s time clubs should be allowed to cull this bird, lovely evening’s fishing thanks for sharing. Jimf
Thanks for commenting Jim. Yes we have had problems with them over the last few years and I can only see it getting worse unfortunately. We have decoys out in the middle of the water but they quickly catch on to what these are so there not really of any use. Thanks again for watching 🎣
Good stuff Danny, i'm a regular up there ..I grew up in Barrhead ..brilliant dryfly water ..cheers Stevie
Cheers! Yeah one of my favourites mate. I had a season ticket last year but couldn’t take one out again this year as the wife was moved on to a different shift due to the pandemic. So I’ll only be able to make it over the odd weekend. Maybe see you up there one weekend buddy 👍
@@DannyLeitch yeah I’m up regularly when I’m home from offshore

Just my local club water buddy. Thanks 🎣
Cool. Looks a nice bit of water. Best type of fishing mate.
Looks nice, First time I've seen buzzers pulled quite quick, just shows there's no rules the fish want what they want good fishing.

Thanks Stef, it was my local club water. Tight lines!
Nice fishing🎣🎣....can you tell us what kind of rod you use and how set up your rod...💪

@@archiebathgate9122 fantastic buddy. What fishery was that? I’m hoping to get out in the next week or 2 but it’s difficult at the moment with work commitments.
@@DannyLeitch Kingennie near Dundee. Can't go far with lockdown. Huge flock of cormorants had settled there over their few days of snow closure and pretty much cleaned the place out. A lot of restocking needed.
@@archiebathgate9122 Is that the one with the golf course next to it? If it is I’ve played golf there but never fished it. Might be one for me to come up and try after lockdown. 👍
Hi good video can I ask what's a grunter and what rod (Grey's? Like the reel?) And lines do u use. Thanks
Hi, the rod is a greys grxi same as the reel. This was the 9’6” 7# and I was using an airflo superflo floating line.
Check out Davie McPhail’s video of a grunter on RUclips to see what I was using. Hope this helps. Tight lines.
