I appreciate your candor-I know that is really hard to do as there’s always the potential for backlash. I admire Teti’s patterns and I test knit a lot, but I’ve never applied for any of hers as I don’t feel like she gives a sufficient amount of time. As many folks have pointed out, such a short timeline also makes it very unlikely that the larger sizes will be able to be tested fully (or at all), since those take longer, and 4 weeks is already a deadline only speedy knitters with yarn on hand or the ability to go purchase some in person can hope to accomplish. If that’s the case, then one is only giving lip service to size inclusivity. Even if the 50% off coupon was because you didn’t finish by the deadline, it’s still a slap in the face. I would also be hurt by that. I’be done many test knits, both for just starting out designers and big names. There are some designers whose tests I love, and I’ll test knit just about anything for them if I have the time because they’re just that great to work with (I’m thinking of Stephanie Lotven of Tellybean Knits). My only really bad experience was with a brand new designer who just didn’t really know what she was doing and the pattern hadn’t been tech edited or even proofread, and then as I got further in, I discovered some parts of the pattern weren’t even complete yet, and then the designer took a while to respond to questions and at first wanted to do everything via email, even though she had created a thread on Ravelry where testers were trying to help each other out. It was a mess. I did get a wearable garment out of it (because I’m a fairly advanced knitter and could figure things out on my own), but I swore off testing for that designer till she had more experience.
Thank you for your input 🌸 I agree with your point about larger sizes and short deadlines, it isn't truly being inclusive particularly if smaller sizes feel like they're rushing. Thank you for naming designers you love to test for, I'll make a note and look out for their future test calls 🌿
With your test knit for Teti, was the 50% discount maybe because you didn't meet the deadline? I recently tested for her, and it was even just a mini scarf and I got a free pattern of my choice for it. But honestly, I also wanted to apply for that test of the blouse, but 4 weeks is really short for a long-sleeve garment, so I didn't.
Hi, the message appears to have been sent in mass so unsure if that's the case, though it's super off putting to think a designer would segregate reward based on whether the very tight deadline was met. Although I missed the initial deadline I did complete before the release date.
@@PurlsBeforeThyme. I completely agree, I'm just trying to understand how it came about, I mean those two tests happened around the same time, so I would expect that also the approach to rewards didn't change in the meantime.
I have gotten stricter about the tests I do, deadlines giving generous amount of time, patterns I would be sad not to have, designers get put on my blacklist for testing for any reason I see fit (luckily only 2) the good definitely out weight the bad I have 3 designers I just live to test for any day if the week they could ask me and I would do it
That seems like a good strategy. It's always nice to have designers who you just know that testing is going to be a pleasure 😄
Yes, this just sounds like the designer saw the test knitters as a potential source of income at the same time that they were providing free labour and feedback. That would explain why she selected so many - 70 pattern sales at half price equals 35 pattern sales, so about €280 🤨
Thank you for being so honest! I like testknitting, because it is nice when you can help a designer to make the pattern even better. But for anyone considering testknitting: don't expect anything back! My experience with testknitting is: I never received a coupon code to buy yarn with a discount. Some let you pick one of their other designs for free, but most don't (no, nothing, not even 50% off!). I knitted a testknit last April for a very famous designer, who never responded to any questions. We had to finish our sweaters within 4 weeks, and we still haven't gotten any feedback about the release date of the pattern! So enjoy testknitting for the process, just don't have any expectations.
That's so sad when the designer doesn't respond. I've been lucky with most of my test that the designer gets very involved and responds to comments and questions 🌸I think I'm going to take a bit of a test knitting break for a while to finish some WIPs (famous last words haha) 🌼🌾☀️
That ranunculus has me feeling so inspired to try one with some brushed alpaca silk in my stash! The light blue is so beautiful 😍
A shame you had this happen with your last test knit (although that sweater is gorgeous). Even with 70 test knitters it’s not a great hardship for the designer to at least give a free pattern. Thank you for an honest insight into your experience. I personally have never test knitted as the pressure doesn’t appeal! I’m all for having an easy and relaxing time knitting 😊
Hello Elise! I enjoy test knitting. I’ve mainly tested patterns for Jenna Kostet because I adore the folk inspired colorwork patterns that she designs ✨
Her designs are stunning! Lucky you, it must be so fun to test such beautiful things🌼🩷
Hi from Qld Australia ? Do i detect an aussie accent ?
Hi! Nearly, I'm half South African so I have a few little twangs from there 🌼
Both of your tops turned out beautiful. I'm glad you were able to find the right mohair to match your pumpkin color for the bookclub cardigan. I hope you have enough yarn! I think you need a higher contrast for your Hey, Sailor top. I like the idea of lavender and mint, but I think your two shades were too similar.❤🧶
Cute
Hello here from Arizona, first time here!
Welcome!! I imagine it's quite a bit warmer there than it is here in Norway ☀️
I liked the look of the little Breton pastry. And that undertoe triangle shawl.
I'm american but im 1/8 Norwegian and got try on a family friend's bunad when i was 18. I felt so special and fancy and loved
Awww, that's so nice! They do make you feel special!
This was fantastic! Loved learning about this traditional dress and all that goes into it.
This was such an interesting video-thanks for walking us through your bunad!
Ow the dye lot experience 😢... I feel for you!
Thank you for sharing your bunad with us. It was so interesting to learn about. Yours is beautiful! I live in the US and we don't have traditional dress like this. My family is from Germany but we don't have the traditional dress in my family. Quite a few of the outward traditions fell away during the World Wars when there was an effort in the part of the US my family lived in to "hide" or downplay their German heritage so as not to be seen as the enemy. (It was a weird time in history and sadly we lost some fun traditions)
You look lovely in your traditional costume!
So beautiful!!! Interceding to learn about this Norwegian tradition.
Lovely video! Perfect energy for lying under an umbrella in a drizzle, on a porch in Italy, savouring late summer and the transition to autumn...
Sounds idyllic 🌾
Pretty design!! Congratulations! 🙌🏻🧶🙌🏻
Congratulations!!!
Since it is really cool in the mornings in Northern Canada where I live, I've been wearing my shawls on my commute to work. I love your suggestions.
Wonderful! Do you have any favourite patterns?
@@PurlsBeforeThyme. I'm hand spinner using my own yarn and usually free hand my shawls. I haven't actually used a written pattern for them.
I miss Nicole’s podcasts too 😔 You have a very similar manner to Nicole and your makes are lovely 😍
@@janinef66 that's a huge complement, thank you. I miss her too 🌸
I am so excited about your scallop cardigan and can't wait for it! Already planning wools I dream to carry it out it in. Beautiful, enjoy the process.
such beautiful shade of orange of the new yarn! Love it. Wonderful podcast overall!
Thank you, I can't wait to cast on!
Shade 34 of titicaca may be a nice mach for your pumpkin yarn.
Thank you for the suggestion, I'll definitely check it out!
woops I'm sorry I didi find it on your ravelry page. So pretty and looks fun to knit!
Hi! lovely video - enjoyed it very much. I didn't catch the name of the tan scarf. I cord edge Guile Scarf? It is very pretty with the texture being very interesting.
It's the Gaelle scarf, named after a stylish elegant French lady who was a family friend.
Beautiful idea for the Blackberry Cashmerino 😍😍🫐🫐
It's so beautiful! Thank you for making it
Thanks for your video. It was very enjoyable to watch.
You're brave taking on a test knit for Teti! I find her test periods very short, as if the project would need to be my sole focus in life, not just in knitting, for the duration. That purple is fabulous!
I really like the texture of a turquoise sweater-to-be! And thank you for the reference to the Augustins sweater, now I wan to make one myself. Could you maybe at some point in your future episodes list your favorite knitting podcasts? I enjoy listening yours a lot (thanks for all the inspiration and I'm an absolute fan of your cat!), which means that I'll probably love your favorites too!
Holstgarn has a very nice laceweight alpaca called Titicaca and they have loads of colors-you might find an appropriate color to use. I love the scallops but haven’t made anything with them in the past. Your Teti’s blouse is gorgeous, can’t wait to see the FO.
It's my favourite at the moment and shade 34 looks like nice match!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for the shoutout!❤️🙏🏻🥰 A beautiful podcast episode!🤗
You're welcome, I can't wait for your next video!
I loved both your designs!! The blue one is stunning and very intriguing! And I don't think scallops ever go out of style, they are very classic.
Thank you so much, that's so motivating! 🌸
Such a beautiful blue boat-neck sweater!
Thank you, it's one of my absolute favourites 🩷
As a hand spinner who makes yarn, worsted prep and spun yarn vs. woolen prepped and spun yarn will really make a difference. True worsted yarn will last much longer that woolen yarn. Worsted fibre is all parallel and all the the small broken bits and neps are combed out before being spun. It requires much more preparation; therefore, a lot more expensive than woolen yarn, which is soft and lofty, but all the little neps and short bits are spun into the yarn. Over time these little things will work their way to the surface as pilling. A woolen sweater will last 10 to 30 years with proper care and a worsted garment could last a 100 years or more with proper care.
This is so interesting! I'm not really a spinner so this isn't something I've looked too much into. Thank you for your advice, I am now going to do more research on this 💐
Magic mushrooms can be mistaken for NOT being a psychedelic. Be careful, please. Love your green brioche cardi. Very pretty color for you. Great list. Suggestion, could you make a Ravelry list of your recommendations, you can add link to your info for viewer, .it makes it very helpful for viewers. Thanks for all you suggestions and sharing your work and hopeful pieces.
Hi, thank you for your comment. I added Ravelry links to all mentioned patterns in the video description for easy access 😊
@@PurlsBeforeThyme. so sweet thank you. I just left the comment and you already have changed that fir us. I appreciate that much. Hopefully its helpful for others as well. 🧶👍✌️😁

@@TrudySchwartzBurrill thank you, that's so supportive and kind of you!
Is that picture in the background cross stitched?😍 I’m an avid knitter who also loves doing cross stitch.
Yes, it's a piece of cross stitch my mother made for me when i was born. It depicts lots of H. C. Andersen fairytales
@@PurlsBeforeThyme. way cool!💖
I am also testing candelaria and also feeling that the test time is too little 🙈
Just a heads up…people are running out of yarn with the Book Club Cardigan. I would check to see if the yardage estimates have been increased before I can on with a non-commercial yarn. If you use a commercial yarn you can order more yarn and have a higher potential to find yarn from the same dye lot.
Thanks for the tip!!
@@PurlsBeforeThyme. I would like to add that I enjoy your podcast and find you to be absolutely lovely.😘😘
Your little duckling is so sweet!
I look forward to seeing your finished sweater from Teti's Garden.
I am joining the mosaic mayhem KAL that starts today and I want to make the mosaic carpet project bag by Marie Wallin as well as the syncopated stripe sweater by Hannah Sandler. But I also have yarn for the frame sweater by Andrea Mowry and I'm finishing up the anyday sweatshirt by Ysolda. Too many projects and too little time. I need an "I'd Rather Be Knitting" t-shirt.😅❤🧶
I knew I heard a fellow South African in between that accent!!! Ive been wondering for a while tx for confirming. Capetonian here!! Take a look at the fungus cardigan by refined knitwear it has a lovely texture and has a belt.
I love the Fungus cardigan ❤️ I'm also Capetonian (I guess Fish-Hoek tonian is more exact) . How exciting 🌸😊
I love the cardigan you are wearing, the colour and the buttons you have chosen are just perfect!
Thank you, that's so kind of you to say 🥰
Holst garn titicaca is a nice mohair substitution for les hairy knits and it comes in many beautiful shades that suits you and your palette. I'm freestyling a bottom up cardigan right now. Later I plan to make Durumagi by Sedna Yang and maybe Butterscotch by Nashawa Sakr (adult size but more like kid's version). I plan to make Bookclub too but it's a plan for mid november/early december when I'll be able to buy a nice yarn for it. This Teti's project may also be the one that I finaly buy. I love all her project but this one is the first one I can see myself wearing to death.
Most people don’t understand what goes into making a sweater. Almost all knitters and artists have had a bad experience selling their work or worse making a commissioned piece. Often the commissioned work doesn’t satisfy the customer for some reason. That’s demoralizing. I’m criticized for selling my work too cheaply just to satisfy my knitting habit. It’s not fair to knitters who are trying to make money, but that’s not possible anyway unless you’re a designer.
I've just taken a look at their Instagram as I hadn't heard of this brand before. They're keeping their cards very close to their chests aren't they! I don't blame any self respecting knitter to question the motives behind this project.
I'm glad that you addressed this, I saw their post on reddit and thought they were so shady, but I think that's also because of the way it's translated too. There's no reason to be secretive if they're doing things with integrity
