The Death of Split-Screen
Black Ops, Classic Halo, 2000’s MW, the OG Battlefronts, Goldeneye-the list goes on and on. Each of these games is renowned for its split-screen gameplay, with many owing their entire multiplayer success simply to the ability to be played by multiple people in the same room. Join me as I reminisce about the unforgettable gaming experiences shared with friends and explore why split-screen gaming has seen a notable decline in recent years.

Overwatch Clones Are Everywhere - But Why?
I would like to support this message and vouch for its truth
Why the gameplay looks like shit lol
The first section is intentionally blurred to help make the graphics stand out
We have internet now, no need split screen which is more demanding to run and the console has to render two instances of the game at the same time
Personally I love having the option, and both together is a ton of fun! Online split screen has been, and still is a blast imo. Yes it increases the demand placed on the hardware of a console, which is a point I bring up in the video, but I also talk about how it could still work and give examples. Appreciate you watching and leaving your thoughts, thanks!
I have real life friends and want to play games with them IN person
This!
No another YT video game complain vid YT has too many
Don’t worry! I try and keep my videos mostly informative including this one, and there’s many other videos on my channel praising games/publishers for what they did right. Like my Isonzo, Halo wars 2, or squadrons videos. Just hating/complaining isn’t something that I want to be known for, so I strive to add context to the complaints people give and only really go negative when I feel it’s necessary.
It’s wild to me that split screen is abandoned when modern screen resolutions and game hardware is so much better. Dividing up the screen wouldn’t leave out as much detail as before.
I’d be fine going back to older resolutions when playing split screen, If that’s what it took for the feature to be in more games
was gonna say.. if split-screen fortnite can be as solid as it is, other devs can totally add that feature to their games nice video as always 🙏
Thanks man!
As anticonsumer as they are, Nintendo still does a decent job of keeping couch multiplayer alive with the exception of Splatoon. Mario Kart is still a great experience to play locally with friends and family in one place. Smash is a good time that you can take as seriously as you want depending on what demographic you're playing with. Kirby, Mario 3D World, and Mario Wonder are pretty solid multiplayer platformers. Out of these, only Mario Kart is technically split-screen, but I figure local multiplayer is close enough to the topic. However, Nintendo's online is easily the worst in the industry, so that's a significant trade-off.
I completely agree, Nintendo’s biggest selling point, past there family friendly games, is their local play. Smash, Mario kart, and Mario Party alone each offer endless hours of replay-ability with friends. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@@BurnoutJack It's really rare to find comparable local multiplayer games of that quality elsewhere. There's a reason the only modern game console I have is the Switch. Almost everything else can be experienced on PC. Even Sony's exclusives are coming to PC after enough time passes. However, unless you break the DMCA in some way (even dumping your own legitimate copies for personal use technically violates the DMCA if you circumvent copy protection), Nintendo's games are only on Nintendo platforms
I think this is one of the reasons why Nintendo is selling more consoles than Microsoft and Sony. Nintendo still holds on to what consoles have over PC which is couch co-op and great exclusive titles you can’t get anywhere else.
Goldeneye, perfect dark, timesplitters... the list goes on...
Goldeneye is still one of the best split screen games ever, which is insane given the amount of time since it released
@BurnoutJack facts. 4 player split with Power weapons on Complex or Facility, some of the best times of my life.
@@DarthMirasshtar the 360 remake was pretty good too! Idk if you ever played it but it definitely kept the same feel as far as the 4 player split screen went
I blame the internet.
Cool
We need more games like A way out me and my dad played that a few years back and it's by far one of my most memorable gaming experiences
It’s such a great game! I’ve played through it multiple times with others, and was always met with an fantastic experience
side note:theres no hungarian vicelines, ones italian ones german and the other one is german but with a austrian dialect, its like when you compure uk english to us english
Very Interesting! Thanks for pointing that out
Man, i miss Ghost Recon. Back in like 2006... that shit was lit. Made some of my best friends in life on GRAW for the 360.
My little brother asks his friends at school to play hw2 and I can not believe how many of his friends actually got and likes halo wars, I join them every week and literary play for hours every 4 hours some of his friends will get off and we still have extra few people waiting to play, I showed my gf about this game and she doesn't really like halo but seeing how you can command and strategies units she gave it a shot and even though she played it once she really liked it Can't believe how many people likes this game
@@tristencrank8591 that is awesome! Such a wholesome story I’m very happy and a little jealous to hear you play hw2 with the whole family!
Cool
I mostly lost interest in Ubisoft due to how aggressive their DRM is. If I buy a game on steam, it's unacceptable that I need to install a third party client to play a game they sold on another platform. For UNO of all things.
Great point! I find things that this severely frustrating as well and it’s almost always the companies you’d expect to require things like this that are the culprits.
Uncaring management, bloated games and dev teams and they forgot the most important factor, the consumer and their wants. Shame because the OG AC series blew my mind
@@u0aol1 best case scenario, the devs that worked on ther OG AC games make their own spin-off series that pays tribute to and expands on the originals.
You forgot that mountaineer can go full on trench clearing with nothing but a pickaxem
That video start did, in fact, have me reaching for my pitchfork. However... you're right. Compared to the disgusting slop we're being fed recently, EA published games did well, but it wasn't EA that made them good. It was DICE and Respawn. I'm so thankful that you brought out the bad guy turned hero trope because that shit had me so angry when I first played through it. Finally, my chance to be this badass Empire commando that will go around working in the background, fighting against the Rebellion at key points which will eventually fall short of success, but plant seeds for gateways all the way through to Episode 9. Seeing how the First Order views its Imperial remnants. But, no. Instead it's, "oh no my planet, now the Empire is evil, I must destroy the Empire." That shit was so frustrating. Don't get me wrong I still really, really liked how the story was delivered through excellent voice acting, graphics, sound design, etc. But the main plot was so ugh. I can't believe I'm agreeing in 2024 that EA did a better job with Star Wars than fucking Disney (minus Mando and Ashoka (Yes, Ashoka, sue me)) and don't even get me started on Ubisoft.
I can’t agree more with everything you’ve said, I appreciate you watching past the beginning and not grabbing your pitch fork 😂 Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience with EA comments like these are always so much fun to read and make me want to dive deeper into topics like these. So thank you again! :)
battlefront 2 is actually fun as fuck. even with just the coop missions with friends. always have a blast. murdering hundreds of rebels with Vader never gets old...
The Co-Op mode has provided me with endless hours of fun, its such a great way to quicky pick up and play with friends. Bf2 is insanely good Thanks for watching and sharing your experience! It means a ton :)
@BurnoutJack you nailed it man. Couldn't argue a single point. And honestly I've been playing the shit outta SWTOR again. Finishing story lines i never started. Great video dude. Love the energy.
@BurnoutJack bro did you seriously reply to my comment while live? What a gigachad.
@@DarthMirasshtar appreciate it man, I’m really glad you enjoyed it, I definitely need to hop back into SWTOR. And yeah, even if I’m live gotta reply to the people 😂, thanks man
@BurnoutJack hell yeah. If you're on star forge maybe you'll see me at Fleet!
Hold up let the man COOK
Thats a lie battlefront original s sold well
@@mscapeh4451 it definitely did! I don’t mention the original in this video, so I’m curious as to which part is a lie?
Battlefront one was something special 😭
It truly was 🥲
Yeah the original
But the DLC content should’ve been included from the get go
@@DutchPlanDerLinde for sure, it was an incomplete game without the DLC content
Dude you say spoiler alert and i didn't even have time to reach to the mouse you already spoiled.... Not cool
I saw your comment before that part of the video and I thought it couldn’t be that big of a spoiler… but it was the biggest one of the game. I’m sorry. I just beat the game like 2-3 weeks ago too so I woudve been pissed as well as
i agree with you, right now i’m playing battlefront 2 and fallen order, those games are amazing, i wish they make more games like it
Both great games. Thank fully we are getting a third Jedi game sometime in the next couple of years, but as far as battlefront goes, I have no idea when we’ll see a new version of that. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! I really appreciate it man
The main point should be that every EA game is better than Outlaws, and Eclipse has been MIA for years now
@@InhabitantOfOddworld yep very true, I doubt we will see Eclipse until at least 2028.
I have to agree, especially with the 2 Jedi games. Like, Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor are amazing and I cant sing their praises enough
@@chooongusbug724 I love the Jedi series! Seriously some of the best Star Wars games in both gameplay and story, Dark Souls + Star Wars just works so well
@@BurnoutJack Dark Souls combat, Zelda style puzzle solving, Metroidvania type exploration...not much else I could ask for out of a Star Wars game TBH
@@chooongusbug724 perfectly said all of that plus a great story to go with it , I can’t wait to see how the third installment has to bring.
Cool
Cool
these games have always stuck with me, and both battlefronts remain some of my favourite multiplayer experiences of all time. we can't look past the garbage EA has done, but we can't look past these games either. (especially squadrons) thanks for talking about this:)
@@plasticbush very well said I completely agree. I appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts, thanks!
I actually agree. Personally, I never liked the Jedi series from EA, but the Battlefront series was amazing! Still playing both to this day. Great video, once again.
@@DaltonAnthony-aLT I appreciate it a lot! I’m glad you’re also a huge fan of the BF series, you’re right it really is amazing.
I loved this game, bought a saitek hotas for it and got really good at it. Played so much the first 2 months i gave myself a stress injury by the time i came back the game was dead. It had so much potential and was the only modern thing of its kind. Imo the sim aspects were just right not so intense you need hours of tutorials to understand but well fleshed out.
If there was 3rd person id have played.
@@Drew_Peacock I’ve heard that from a lot of people, definitely should have been an option. I think it would’ve worked well as its own game mode like “3rd person star-fights”. It would’ve been easy to implement too.
@@BurnoutJack I'd love a Rogue Squadron game. I remember being disappointed it wasn't more like that. It seems like a good game just not my thing I suppose.
@@Drew_Peacock it was good while it lasted, it failing though probably sent the wrong message to devs looking to make more starship games :/ But hopefully one day we’ll get something a little more Rouge Squadron like.
Love the video
Hey brother, I really like the video. I think it's very well done and it's honestly a topic that I kind of forgot about. I did actually play this game back in 2016 and had close to probably 200 hours into it but honestly I started playing fortnite lmao. As for the script writing and editing of the video, I think you did a very good job on it. My critiques would be trying to separate the topics a little bit more, try to add a longer pause between each section. Besides that I think the video is very well done. This is another thing that I've been working on my own channel is trying to make the thumbnails a little bit more simple I see a couple of your videos have very complex thumbnails I feel like if you simplify them you would definitely get more views, outside of that I wish you the best of luck bro. The grind never ends.
Appreciate it man! Thanks for the input and advice, and I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! I will definitely take your thoughts into consideration going forward, so thank you again for the critiques. Best of luck to you and your channel as well, I checked it out and see what you mean with thumbnails, yours look very nice!
Incredibly sad to learn Epic chose Fortnite over potentially having two massive games on their hands.
Turns out selling games to kids is more profitable than selling games to gamers. Actually it turns out selling everything to kids is more profitable. 🤔
In every thing you get more money by selling it to kids, kids will get their parents to spend money, sometimes they can even stay using their parents credit card while they don't know.. there's a reason epic had to payback a bunch of money to parents a few years ago( 1 or 2y)@@ricky-sanchez
Guessed it's not a failure then, it was just oevrshadowed by Fortnite.
@@revakriid true, if it had gotten the care it needed I can definitely see how it would’ve gone on to succeed long-term.
if epic wants to actually make money they would bring back infinity blade not try and make weird games
@xoxo6308 infinity blade rocked! Although Epic definitely makes more than enough money from just focusing on Fortnight and other live-service games, so I don’t think we’ll see it anytime soon.
@@BurnoutJack shhh let me have copium
I take it back, they will definitely bring it back 100%! We just gotta believe 🙂↕️
Game was seriously slow and un impactful.
The game has been back for a long while now just go play it
There have been several attempts to bring it back most are inactive now, but the most recent one just fully released last month! It’s a ton of fun, I’d definitely recommend giving it a shot.
I was legit pretty bummed about Paragon going under, played with my brother a lot while he was in the Army and met quite a few of his buddies that way. We've been playing a lot of Predecessor nowadays though to make up for lost time. They just released a new character to boot!
What a great story! I’m glad you and your brother were able to stay connected that way. Sounds like ya’ll have enjoyed predecessor as well, which is good to hear. Thanks for sharing, I love comments like these.
nice video but paragon's footage looked very slow, to slow, plus the graphics looked like they belonged on a mobile game... now i'm not saying that the game looked bad but if u showed me this game and asked "what platform does this run on?" I would say "Idk android" Great game? Yes But it was missing speed and the UI dosen't look that good. Sure DeadLocks UI dosen't look half bad nor half good but considering Paradox is a released game and Deadlock not we can say how DeadLock did things better from the start Also the game looks like is missing something to make it more original because the characters all looked like robots with nothin to attach me to them. When i saw deadlocks character design i could already tell for sure that i want to smash Vindicta.
"graphics looked like they belonged on a mobile game" stopped reading right here. This was in 2016. You are so far off base it's laughable.
I used to be so good at this game, i remember i made a monster Khaimera build, before he got nerfed, the Countess, i started maining her, man she was badass. Seraph was my third favorite one, she had some badass moves, there was a specific one she had where she would be invincible for a few seconds, i remember surving so many enemy, what was it called finisher or like their main attack move, anyways if you time it right she would take zero damage. This was the only MOBA i ever got into. Damn shame it got shut down
Same, this was one of the few MOBAs I felt decently skilled at. I loved Seraph and Gideon, thankfully games like Predecessor exist so I can relive some of the nostalgia. Though it’s just not the same as when everyone was playing.. Thanks for sharing man! Really stirred up some nostalgia for me
I might try out Predecessor later! Thanks!
