Since you were born in Maui and are familiar with Lahaina, may I ask if you have ever seen as many powerline poles fall in Lahaina in one day before the fire? As I'm assuming, Lahaina has always experienced hurricanes and strong winds, so I'm certain that August 8 wasn't the first time Lahaina experienced a day with such strong winds. I find it extremely strange that on that day, so many powerline poles fell at various locations throughout the town.

Following the news about the fire I'm wondering how something like that might impact various sectors like the housing market, bonds, and mortgages.

Check out Google Earth; they already show the devastation with areal view only; street view reverts back to the way it was before the fire. I find this interesting as it usually takes a year to up date.

Bless the place everyday with this prayer. The Lord 's Name is in it. Do not give up your faith, use this sad, horrible situation for His glory and carry on. I am a 68 year old woman, a Christian since 1971. I have been through family separation as a teenager, miscarriages, loneliness, very acute illnesses that almost killed me 6 years ago. But He is faithful, and as Psalm 23 says, He restores the soul, and He is able to bring back the whole community for the praise of His Name. Life is hard, but He is alive! I know it looks very dark, desolate, and unsurmountable obstacles overwhelms you now. All looks bleak, but the light shines brighter when the night is come, until the morning breaks over the eternal horizon of His radiant face. He will give you the strength you need one day at a time. Thank you for pouring your hearts to us, in this way we can pray and sympathize with you. My deepest condolence for those bereaved of loved ones. Be assured of my daily prayers for you.

Tragically, Maui is the tip of the iceberg. Several years ago I was priviledged to attend a presentation on making Social Science measures more accurrate when measuring the concerns of Native people. This was a noble effort,but I was frustrated the whole time, knowing that we no longer have the luxury of time when considering Native people, people in poverty etc.. Climate change is happenning exponentially now. We must act fast to relocate people living on sea level and on islands. It's going to get ugly fast and many will die if we fail to act preemptively. We also need a cohesive strategy for immigration, as we also have only seen thetip of the iceberg of people relocating. The poor will suffer first and the most. We must be practical and act fast or horrors will ensue. Prayers.
