Matthew Movie Guy
Добавлен 18 окт 2011
This Boston guy just moved to Los Angeles after wanting to do so for almost thirty years! "What does an East Coast guy do once he goes full-on West Coast?" Have a look!
When my Mother became ill and less mobile, I started shooting short videos for her of my daily life, with a POV shooting style, meant to give her the impression and feeling of being there, walking along with me. Most aren't too polished or snazzy, and they always had an intended target audience of one. I always kept them private on RUclips, as in "just for her." But as of my Mom's recent passing, I'm opening them up for public viewing. Mom always wanted me to share them with the world and for her I'm going to try.
These kind of videos have become quite popular on RUclips, so I hope mine can find a home out there with the other, better-produced thousands of videos available and that they're not too embarrassing with their low-tech and no-budget visuals. Anyway, I hope you like them! Please enjoy and thanks!

DRUNK ON THE AIRPORT BUS ON THANKSGIVING - AMBIENCE (Short) - LAX LOS ANGELES
Просмотров 2814 часов назад
Maybe you're headed across the country to that family get-together you've been dreading. Or maybe it's all over, you made it through the holiday and you're headed home again. You've had a few. Before the plane, on the plane and then when you touched down. And now you're three sheets to the turkey wind, with your head against the window of the courtesy bus, unsure if you've missed your stop or e...
Walking around BEVERLY HILLS CITY HALL and PUBLIC LIBRARY
Просмотров 1721 час назад
Just a quick look at the well-designed grounds, walkways, stairways and garden work of the area, and a look at the inside of the library, which didn't disappoint. I even picked up a used book there, POODLE SPRINGS by Raymond Chandler and Robert Parker; an L.A. story for an L.A. day.
FISHERMAN'S VILLAGE - MARINA DEL REY - LOS ANGELES
Просмотров 3221 час назад
This spot in Marina Del Rey, I first learned about through a video by the German in Venice. It's an attraction made to feel like a small town fishing village, with lighthouse (it doesn't really function as one though), boats, fishing, old fashioned wooden buildings and shops, a great little food stand with really good fish and chips built into the base of the lighthouse, places to drink and eat...
A walk through RODEO DRIVE - BEVERLY HILLS - LOS ANGELES
Просмотров 10221 час назад
I took a couple of buses over to Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive to see how The Other Half Lives these days. Started off at the Beverly WIlshire Hotel, which I mistakenly thought was the hotel from BEVERLY HILLS COP but was actually the one in PRETTY WOMAN. (Oops.) Still, the inside was really nice and the staff was very courteous to me. Then I walked across the street for my first look at Rodeo ...

JOHNNIE'S PASTRAMI in CULVER CITY - LOS ANGELES - CALIFORNIA
Просмотров 87714 дней назад
Walking through Culver City, I happened across this little gem. Even though they were out of my preferred order, a slice of apple pie, I enjoyed the look and old-school classic vibe of the place. Best touch: the little jukeboxes at each table actually worked! When was the last time you sat down at a booth with those and they worked? It's very rare. You can just make out one of my choices: "A Wh...

CALIFORNIA SURF & SUNSET
Просмотров 31Месяц назад
The way the sun sets behind the pier in Manhattan Beach is one of the most beautiful things I've ever had the luck of seeing. The light, the breeze moving the sand around the shoreline, the way the golden light hits the water as it surges and swells ... If I have to leave this area, moments like this will be what I miss the most.
High Waves UNDER THE PIER at MANHATTAN BEACH - LOS ANGELES - CALIFORNIA
Просмотров 27Месяц назад
On a hot day, under the pier is the coolest place to be. Surfers, sunbathers, families, couples... And the waves were coming in strong for the surfing, too. Sit back and enjoy the sounds of the ocean under the Aquarium pier in Manhattan Beach in the South Bay of L.A....
HOT WHEELS - LEGENDS TOUR AUTO SHOW - MATTEL LOS ANGELES EL SEGUNDO
Просмотров 169Месяц назад
Sure, Mattel's Hot Wheels (and Matchbox Cars, for that matter) have been a staple of my life. I used to have so, so many I picked up at the small town Massachusetts Five and Dime, Bradlees, King's, Caldor, Ames, K-Mart and Child World stores near me, growing up. Many, over my life. In fact, a few years ago I started up again and picked up a couple Ectos from GHOSTBUSTERS, some Syd Mead ones ins...
THE LOS ANGELES SOUTH BAY in THE FOG - MANHATTAN BEACH PIER
Просмотров 20Месяц назад
One of my favorite films is John Carpenter's THE FOG, filmed in Northern California is the Point Reyes area. It made the whole area, especially the Point Reyes Lighthouse where "Stevie Wayne" of Radio KAB ran her radio station. Even though I've only been in L.A. a short while, recently the Marine Layer fog has been pouring into the South Bay strong and steady, so when it came in thick one recen...

Nice!
I would like to visit there someday
used to go here when i was akid...long time ago...
🇺🇸. 👍🏻
Everything except the food. Lol.
@@vicdmode1 - I did order some apple pie but they were out, that was all I really wanted. But the place had a great feeling to it!
Bomb ! I drove from Moreno Valley to have some .
i miss it so much ... only reason to go back....
Been coming here since I was a kid. My folks used to bring us for a treat. I'm A LOT older now and it's still a "Treat" - great memories.
Golden hour magnificence!
What a fantastic place!
It really is!
It really is
Wow, looks like a really fun show!
It was fun, you can see by me stumbling around trying not to get walked into, more so than any other car show I'd ever been to. That said, the DeLorean helped make it all worthwhile!
Lovely vid!
how deep is this? looks scary like large body of water. I wonder if its possible to drown in it
@@Tdotttttt Not very. A couple of feet maybe. They drain it in the winter, so you can see it empty a few months at a time.
This is one of the best theaters in Southern California to see a movie in. I was shocked to hear it's closed for business with unspecific "changes". Hope it isn't ruined. Those in ceiling speakers didn't used to be there. When this was a Mann theater they had a board in the lobby that listed all the components of the sound system, as they were proud of the performance it offered.
@@michaelporter8242- Wow, I wish I could've seen that. Working in movie theaters were the best jobs I ever had, and this really was one of the best I ever had the pleasure of visiting.
@@coolhrv When they played the THX surround sound opener, you could feel the sound pressure wave approach your seat and pass by you as the THX logo flew by. This was the only theater in Westside Los Angeles that had a sound system that could do that. This was THE theater to see movies like Lord of the Rings in, the huge screen plus the sound is a movie experience like no other.
@@michaelporter8242 - I wish I'd come here in the 80s or 90s when there were so many more opportunities and theaters still in operation. Between film production slowing way down and the cost of living rising so high, I might end up having to leave here soon. To have had the chance to work in a classic L.A. theater and make a living on it would've been really something!
Nive show, good coverage thanks for sharing 👍
@@drivingdaily582 Thank you too!
Dat's Golden Hour magic, baybeeee!
Hi - is it okay to use your footage in a vid about El Segundo? We'll give you credits.
Could you PM me with more details?
Nice cars and weather.
Wow, I love this place!
This store is exactly what the Copley place mall needs. I need to get back to California
Let's switch apartments! Fair disclosure: I DON'T HAVE ONE!
Well, that sucks. Stay safe out there.
Fancy!
Too much so! The visual design is cool but truthfully oof. It's like Selfies Central.
Delightful as always!
Torrance? Redrum! Great video m’man
Great view
...........with 2034 prices.
what they did not say is that this place is robbed on average twice week .... 8 percen-ters at it in full force.
Now if only you could find Ana de Armas from Blade Runner 2049 and record her too
Don't forget to visit the iconic "Randy's Donuts" down the block!
It’s my kind of place. McDonald’s is YOUR kind of place.
I love the older McDonald's buildings they were colorful and stylish. The newer ones look like drab office buildings.
All newer fast food restaurants looks exactly the same, they all look like computers.
Absolutely gorgeous panoramic views my friend! This was amazing!
Beautiful.
Used to go here a lot in the 90s. Old Harvard Square is dead
At least the Brattle Theater, the Million Year Picnic, Zoe's and the Harvard Book Store are still standing!
@coolhrv Yeah, I'm certain that Million year Picnic will outlive us all, though.
I never did this when I was in LA. I'll have to do it next time. Thanks for the video
And thank you for watching it!
@@coolhrv No problem. It makes me want to go back to LA at some point
Holy cow. I bought so many many comics in this building. I say across the street in the park and listened to Tracy Chapman playing acoustic guitar. I bought my coffee at the Coffee Corruption as we called the Coffee Connection, just around the corner. I'm just swimming in memories........ thank you? Yes, thank you
And the Car Talk guys were always over that way. And what was the... Cafe Algiers! Ah, sweet reverie
hey hey! does someone have a son named Chip? ruclips.net/video/YWkVOO43y9Q/видео.html
Such a unique space. Always got great vibes walking through there. I wish I had spent more money.
I sure spent my share at Newbury Comics and Crazy Dough Pizza!
Hell yeah
The building is/was owned by the same people that own the 99 Cent Store chain in Los Angeles. I suggested to SDJ the other day that we consider trying to run MIRACLE MILE on an outdoor screen in the parking lot if possible and then using the Johnie's as a snack bar, with Spongey running around during the screening. We could even have shopping cart races!
@@coolhrv Sobert Downey Jr.?
It was more interesting because it was a concept similar to my channel. It's a beautiful sea. The gradation sky is pretty
yeah its pretty nice but touristy, right near a nice little swapmeet
Nice! Loved that Bosch season 3 centered around this railway. Check it out sometime
Gawgeous
Love it, amigo!
How are you liking LA so far??
Terrific so far! I still have quite a bit to see but I've already crossed most of my bucket items off the list.
Very good!
Hell yeah!
place looks funl
I just revisited them for the first time since posting this video in 2022... New video coming soon!!
really cool, are the screens locked at the 16X9 screen or do the curtains adjust for the aspect ratio for movies in scope?
I can't recall. But the pre-show was running already as I walked in.
so sad i loved this place as a preteen and teen especially. i miss the clothing store hootenanny
