What you actually have there is a Ryton Sweet bowl, as they were then known back at the Maling Pottery (Approx 5 inches in diameter). The pattern is May Bloom, dark blue (pattern 6483) and dates to the late 1940's. The most collectable examples of Maling's deco-rative wares are certainly those produced during L. E. Boullemier's time at the pottery (1926-1936). These pieces still command the strongest values, especially if they have a desirable, non-floral pattern. With strong foreign competition, lost orders and the fact that the remaining Hoults brothers were unable to devote time and effort to the pottery, closure came in June 1963.
