This is not at all advisable! Maybe the parts exchanged but did you notice the pilot gas began flowing the moment you turned on the gas? That should not happen! A heated thermopile should open that valve

Thanks for uR Video Iam an an HVAC Contractor since 1986 & We Never try to repair an Gas valve , period maybe for myself ONLY But Never an Customers Property & yes I have replaced several Williams Gas Valves its a pain its not an quick easy Job 1 st time but they get easier & faster the more one does .. 30- 45 mins i can swap one out ..less testing gas pressure Water column IS AN MUST AFTER INSTALLATION & testing so about an hours time needed & Yes tapping on an Gas valve has fixed a few that would Not Open on an Call for heat but its Very Dangerous to repair an Gas valve unless you Know Exactly what ur Doing bc they can get STUCK OPEN Not Closed & Spew Gas out till its discovered & then it maybe to late & whatever happens happens one suffers Any & All Consciousnesses & Liability of There own actions Be safe w/ Gas & Electricity & Refrigerant on an HVAC appliance

You never open up a gas valve period !!!unless ya want to burn down your home

The best video for troubleshooting gas valve. However, mine behaved same (you bang it, and it works) but problem was with the dirty thermopile/thermocouple. I took it out and cleaned/sanded and it worked

Thank you so much! These days we need to know what the problem is. Hiring someone isn't always feasible or even necessary. We've been around these heaters for many decades, I grew up with them. We looked at every possibility as you did and it seemed to point to the gas valve. Your suggestion of lightly tapping worked! It's the gas valve, the spring? This heater was only a few years old and the main burner wouldn't ignite after heater was turned off for the summer season. To say the least it was very puzzling. Your insight was a great blessing to us. Thanks again!

I am a professional. I never ever open any part of the gas valve. The valve does not work replace the entire valve. It's only your home that can burn down. So being Mr fix it is really worth risking your home instead of spending 250 dollars for a new valve.
