@ not a fan of both but one of the many reasons why the Tomcat was retired Is its underpowered engine and poor dynamics with high maintenance needs, The bodyframe of the Tomcat along with Its movable wings created a poor flight envelope unsuitable to the engine being prone to accidents like a compressor stall which is what gave it poor maneuverability Overall being an interceptor it was great except its TF30 engines and ofcourse the AIM9/AIM7s with the Vulcan were a good match If fought against equal fourth gens it would burn out (Also another thing because of its very armaments it would not last a while draining every few bit of ammunition)

@Fugitive_8 The TF30 engines were underpowered and prone to compressor stalls, but the F110 engines were not. The wing on the Tomcat was never a problem for the engines, methinks you're confusing that with the F-111 and its intakes.

@ its overall dynamics which is what made it unsuitable to the engine the very wing that gave it the best suitable geometry as possible also gave It poor maneuverability specially on sub 500ft~ and sub 800kts~

@Fugitive_8 Where are you getting your info? It sounds more like somebody's opinion, because it's false. WHAT YOU'RE DESCRIBING SOUNDS MORE LIKE A DELTA WING, NOT A SWING WING. The F-14 actually had better turn performance than the F-15 at lower speeds and lower altitudes. F-15 pilots were told specifically not to get into turn fights with F-14s in DACT engagements. The only real flaws in F-14s maneuverability was that it had a lower roll rate than the other Teen-Series fighters (wider body, long wings), and the F-14A had trouble sustaining tight turns because of the underpowered TF30 engines(F-14B/D didn't have this problem due to MUCH better F110 engines).
