    Installing an MGW Flat stick in my 2010 Mustang GT this coming weekend.I debated for weeks on which to go with: Hurst,Barton,or MGW.I have watched countless videos and read even more reviews about all three of them! Ultimately,I decided on the MGW,its a bit pricier but I think (I hope) I made the right choice. Time will tell I suppose!

    it grinds because you did not set up the shifter right at the bump stops just saiyan.

    • @Kadorja
      @Kadorja 5 лет назад

      Larry Broad it's been about 8 years since I installed this part and sadly the Mustang is long gone but it definitely wasn't an adjustment issue. There are no bump stops for this vehicle. It's a remote mounted shifter that can flex under high RPM. The Hurst was mostly thin stamped steel that couldn't retain it's shape. The MGWs base was milled out of a solid piece as well as a much thicker mounting point at the rear and stronger linkage connecting to the transmission. I've owned two MGW shifters and they're one of the best products for the price.

    I've gone from a hurst to a barton then to a mgw, and honestly there is no comparison. The mgw out performs the others by leaps and bounds. If you want a short throw, just pay a little extra and go with mgw.

  • @deecee4644
    @deecee4644 7 лет назад

    I don't think the Hurst shifter is the issue for the 1st to 2nd grind. The factory shifter does the same thing once in awhile in my 09 GT. I always assumed it was because I didn't have the clutch pedal fully depressed when trying to shift. I'll be buying the Hurst for my car. Not because I think it is better per se, but because I am 54 and have always had great luck with them. You can pound the piss out of them and they keep on going. And besides, I think that MGW looks like shit compared to a Hurst.

    • @Kadorja
      @Kadorja 7 лет назад

      Chevyblock 550 I agree the Hurst is a great shifter but the MGW lineup has always been much better quality. They're expensive but they produce an amazing shifter. As for the install it was 100% correct. I was a lot younger in this video but I did my fair share of wrenching on this car in particular and know it was on the way it was intended to be. I've done everything from the grill, hood scoop (including cutting the hole), CMDP install and long tube headers. A shifter is a walk in the park.

  • @freezerlunik
    @freezerlunik 7 лет назад

    So... maybe there's something I don't know but AFAIK grinding going into second would be due to synchro rings, not anything to do with the shifter. I mean sure, maybe the shifter can be tweaked to REALLY cram it into gear, but discounting the RPMs at the time and the synchro performance is probably a bit silly for comparing shifters.

    • @Kadorja
      @Kadorja 7 лет назад

      freezerlunik The S197s had a terrible remote mounted shifter. The back half is mounted to the frame of the car while the front was a long and skinny metal brace attached to the transmission itself. The transmissions did torque heavily which wouldn't allow the shifter to properly line up. If it was the synchros alone it wouldn't of changed a single thing with the shifter and brace but up until the day I sold that car I had no issues with the MGW.

      Jason Airborne At the time of this video I was probably still around 550-600whp. Eventually made my way up to 650 and finally 720whp with a bigger F-1C ProCharger. Yes it is a stock block LS3 with forged internals.

      any heat issues??

    • @Kadorja
      @Kadorja 7 лет назад

      Jason Airborne 93 and meth. And yeah actually it heats up a lot if it's not moving. Pulled all the plastics from the side vents, most of the hood weatherstrip and also installed a Dewitt's double core radiator and brushless spal fan. ProCharger intercoolers block a lot of the radiator and AC heat exchanger off. A&A make a nice intercooler kit that sections off the intercooler and radiator air a lot better than any other kit. After I did the new radiator and fans it wasn't as bad but still hits around 210-220 if it's in traffic.

  • @joshpietro5790
    @joshpietro5790 7 лет назад

    Actually in all fairness, I've owned both and in my opinion I love the MGW far more. I did nothing extra on either shifters and the MGW shifts from 1st to 2nd perfectly in my 2010 Mustang gt. the Hurst however I can't same the same for. So for my vehicle and my experience with both I'm all MGW. But for those searching please do your own homework and see what's a better fit for you.

      Corey Hertz The stock shift knob may not look great but it's the most comfortable for a stock vehicle that I've ever felt. Pistol grip or palm grip works fine either way.

      If i get the MGW again like I did in my mustang...i'll be getting their metal shift knob. Looks stellar. IMO the shifter isn't like super priorty in my z06 but it would probably improve with a shorter throw.

    Hey quick ? What is this CHE torque limiter you have installed? What does it do?

    • @Kadorja
      @Kadorja 9 лет назад

      They bolt up to the k member support and transmission. Limits the twisting of the transmission from engine torque so you don't lose power and helps the shift linkage line up during high rpm shifts. Less missed shifts/grinding.

    • @Kadorja
      @Kadorja 9 лет назад

      Since it's adjustable it's up to you but even with the longest throw it was still noticeably shorter if i remember correctly. The shorter you adjust the MGW the notchier feeling it will be but some enjoy that shift feeling more than others.

    Harley says that you should re map the bike when you swap anything , eg, air box , pipes , I just keep an eye on my spark plugs & inside the pipes , to make sure the bike isn't running to lean . Your Bike sounds really good " hope you don't have any issues !!!

    • @Kadorja
      @Kadorja 9 лет назад

      Never saw this comment till now. Bike did have a remap from the dealer when I bought it new. As for the baffles themselves it wouldn't change anything they're not that restrictive and mostly tumble the outgoing air at the very end of the pipe so I wouldn't see it needed a tune just for the baffles. I loved this bike but sold it for a Road King a few years ago. Best decision I've made IMO.

    can you still pull away with out gas? like if your at a stop light uphill can you let the clutch out slightly and hold it so you don't roll back?

    • @Kadorja
      @Kadorja 10 лет назад

      With the cam and 4.10 gears yes you can. Actually the gears where a huge help. Usually gears are done with a cam or a bigger stall converter for an auto. Without the gears you can probably hold it with the clutch but it would take a little more work to do it without it stalling out. Regardless you shouldn't rely on the clutch to hold your vehicle in place. Just wears it down faster and can end up burning it up if done for too long.

  • @Kadorja
    @Kadorja 11 лет назад

    The Hurst is a great shifter for the money. It wasn't completely the issue with the grinding but it was causing the rough shifts from 1st to 2nd. The way it's mounted causes the linkage to get out of alignment and sometimes grind or just not go into gear until well after you press the clutch pedal. If you do decide to get a short throw I would either go right for an MGW or get the Hurst with a K-member support and torque limiters.

  • @babyjoker360

    In this video I am running with a Pypes offroad H-pipe, Pypes Violators axleback and the stock headers. I liked the sound it had probably the most. Not too loud but still sounded aggressive. The other setups I did later on down the road where nice but had issues with trumpeting and other annoyances.
