You’re on the money here Anthony! IDL prices have gotten ridiculous! I don’t know how they’re going to attract new drinkers outside of Ireland. There are some frighteningly good sherry bomb scotch whiskeys for a fraction of what some of the newer redbreasts costs. As you say, if you lose your core supporters, you’ll struggle to grow. 2024 was my first year not adding a new MVR to my collection too.

Redbreast is creeping up quickly and incrementally even on the lower age statement. Redbreast 12yr was 40 quid a few years back, then 46 quid, then 52 quid, then 54 or 56 quid in supermarkets. Can no longer recommend it as a "staple" introduction to Irish whiskey. Haven't been buying any others in a while either.
exactly Gareth, and you are only a young fella, back in my day it was even cheaper.......But I feel you are not alone in looking elsewhere for value. I really do believe that there is a gap for new brands to start filling the "value" proposition offers.
Redbreast are the Irish Macallan. The price increases ensured I stopped buying RB some time back.
Not sure is that a compliment or insult for either Midleton or Macallan. I think one of the issues is that the brands see the prices being achieved on the secondary market and want a piece of that pie.. but it is a very short sighted view in my humble opinion

Interesting vid thanks! Achill are doing an annual bottling over the last couple of years. Beautifully packaged in a red wooden display box. Can be picked up for about €120-125 retail only about 1000 in 2024 absolutely worth it to buy and hold on to or to sip. 2023 there were about 400 and already in demand and increasing in value. Something to think about aswell...
