Eric Mead Jazz on Penn and Teller Fool Us
We had a great time putting this together. A perfect example of how even the humble card trick can gain impact and meaning when framed by a relatable concept. Isn't Shoji great? My part here is not flawless, I'm afraid, but imperfections are in the nature of working spontaneously, and part of what make it beautiful and human. I hope you enjoy it!

Mead EG '17 Movies are Magic

This is my talk about magic and film history that opened The EG Conference #11 in Carmel, CA. Like most of my work it's a careful pastiche, a collaborative effort where I am concealing my many influences. Thanks are mandatory though, for the scripting here owes a huge debt to my friend and teacher Juan Tamariz, while the coin handling and plot is a nod to so many friends Kenner, Liwag, Hooser, ...

Snippets and short clips from performances I've given over the past several years. Nothing like being there live, of course, but this will give you a good feel for some of what I've been up to lately. (Music by Something Underground. Used with permission.)
I feel like Penn and Teller are great at guessing traditional tricks, but they can't ever figure out ANY close-up Sleight of Hand magic.
I think I can explain. He had a total of 6 coins. The three coins he initially made them disappear wear hidden inside his sleeve. I have a feeling the other three coins were loaded inside the circular platform. He had a mechanism which he operates by foot to open a small trapdoor and a spring mechanism to bring out the three coins one at a time. Hope that helps. As for the other way around, no idea.
On rewatching, the other way around. He had 2 corks. One which disappeared in his jacket and the other which was loaded below the last coin. He had to press the mechanism using his foot one last time to open the trapdoor one to spring up the cork. And the other coins just appeared out of his sleeves. Great trick thought. Amazing sleight of hand. Amazing work!!!!
One theory I read is the wand he has operates the trap door in the coaster. It's done by magnets and they're load into the coaster.
stank

Why the fake prop coaster and the tablecloth? Now you know how it is done.
That was a beautiful act!
I was raised in the magical arts, been a crew member to some of the biggest and watched this countless times. Eric is simply the smoothest and most entertaining close up magician Ive seen. There's no fat on this routine at all. Thank you for making me feel like a kid again.
This is how it’s done. The cylinder is not just a cylinder. It actually houses another dimension, and every time a coin disappears, it travels through the dimension and into the cylinder. The coins don’t actually disappear. They are snatched out of his hand my a little tiny mouse that secretly carries them away. Very clever.

I feel like I've heard this guy tell a version of The Aristocrats joke
Guy reminds me of a young Kevin Spacey.
KUDOS Eric.... WELL PLAYED SIR... well played!!!!!
Wow!!!!!!!!
ID PAY A DOLLAR TO SEE THAT😂😢😮😅😊
Only one possible explanation: it's a demon.
i get the hands... and the coins, the sleeves... very good but also simple. What i dont get is how put the coins in the cylinder....mmmm the coster or the cylinder is the real trick.... something there, elusive.
Is this recent?
It was uploaded 7 years ago.
I've watched this several times and it's fairly obvious that there are TWO sets of coins. You can see when he places the first set in the cylinder under the cork. You can also see when he's doing the trick in reverse the moment he has the 2nd set of coins. However, for the life of me, I cannot see or catch him making the coins disappear in his hand. Imagine having arguably the two greatest sleight of hand artists sitting a couple feet away, and trying to pull it off. Amazing!
that's the beauty of making something look like it's magic, even though you know the people in front of you know how the trick is done. It's mind-blowing how good his sleight of hand and misdirection is
It's easy enough to see him palm the coins, but how he moves them from his hand to the cylinder is just ... magic.
How smart are you sweety
When. Did you cell u soul sweety
I don't like my Asian nurse nanny
God and da president how fortunate

Eric is God ❤
Eric lecturered and preformed this trick at the emc convention in 2012. Tellerr was also a guest . Not to mention the trick is commercially available. This is an example is eric just persuading them to give him a trophy .. same technique used by politicians lol
HINT: The four silver dollars and cork under the cylinder are gimmicked. They are glued together and have a hole drlled in the bottom to accomdate the single cork. He puts the gimmicked silver dollars and cork into the cylinmder from his left hand at 4:20 of the video. I believe you can figure out the rest of the illusion with that information.
4:34 that coin is already gone
As a Joe Average, I can safely say it's a brilliant routine. Fooled me. I'm not alone here, thankfully. Great work.
The best slight of hand I have ever seen,Brilliant Brilliant, magician, and a fantastic entertainer
perfect routine , one of those tricks that you are more amazed when you know how its done
magical !!!
It truly is a joy to Penn and Teller when they are fooled. Look at their faces throughout the routine. When you are doing slight of hand right in front of Teller and he gets that Look on his face it is just priceless.
Don't watch it anymore since Alison left.
That has to be the CLEANEST sleight of hand hand I have ever seen...
Ok. I think I understand how everthing was done except how the coins in the cylinder disappeared at the end. He doesn't touch the cylinder except for with the wand and Penn is sitting right there and can see in the cylinder.
Oh I miss Alyson<3
She was awesome for this show and very beautiful inside and out
@@Mike-lp4iq Oh yes, I totally agree.
I loved this act.
That kid is gonna be dangerous. His moves are already excellent. And Eric..he's just off the planet skill level.
When Teller makes that smiling baby face you've got him. Everytime I watch this one it's brilliant and smooth.
Still my favorite moment on Fool Us. You’re wonderful Eric, thank you 🪄 🪙 🪙 🪙 🪙 (Congrats!)
I'm thinking there are 8 coins total. 4 coins are already in the cylinder at the beginning the trick. They never move. When he shows what's inside the cylinder, the other 4 coins are still hinden in his hands I'm thinking the 4 extra coins came out of his pocket when he pulled out the 2 pieces of his wand. The wand is a pretext to keep one hand closed. why are the coins under the magoffin? Maybe there are 2 magoffins.
Having The cork, fooled them
I've seen thus so many times. It looks impossible.
coltrane changes... non understood. takes giant steps to get jazz.
Wow, how does this have less than 1k likes?
That to me is the most impressive thing I've seen on Fool Us and I've watched a lot of episodes.
Love it, thank you Eric. Watching you watch one another do ridiculously cool stuff with pure joy was just wonderful
