Bird Doggin Wyoming

*CHEATGRASS SETTERS* Home of Big Runnin', Fire Breathin', American Field-bred English Setters. 100% WILD BIRDS. We're not a puppy mill, but do on occasion have good outside females brought in for breeding. While we do want to promote Wild Places & Open Spaces, accessing Public Lands and Upland Hunting, we're NOT in the business of giving out Hot Spots...besides, finding birds on your own out in the "Big Empty" is part of the journey!
Slow Sunday afternoon - Wyoming Upland & English Setters

Birds somehow ended up behind the dogs, what can you say? I wonder if we were in a little wind vortex circulating the Chukar scent around the dogs. Who knows, but we were able to put one in the bag!

A lot of bird encounters today, unfortunately the GoPro was acting up, hence very few good videos. The day started cool but rapidly heated up. 10-20-2014
Bone Dry Chukar - Wyoming Upland & English Setters
Просмотров 736Месяц назад
notice at the 00:01 mark, a Chukar momentarily pops up on the knoll! GoPro was shutting itself off, so I stitched together these 4 clips (same covey). Bone dry out there today, hot and very little to no wind but Tank persevered and salvaged the find by pointing a single Chukar. The rest of the day was outstanding with a lot of "finds" on both Chukar and Huns October 7, 2024

Fun Day! These Diamond Ridge Birds were getting "hawked" and on the edge (a Northern Harrier was dive bombing the pointed covey as we moved in) but the Setter that was cut lose persistently stayed on the trail. What doesn't show up clearly is 5-6 Chuks starting @ 2:04 to run up the other bank. Anyway, a double was taken on this flush and Tank was able to chase down and retrieve a wounded Chukar...

Diamond Ridge, Wyoming Chukar like to RUN...your dog needs to relentlessly relocate with enough finesse to pin down the birds and hold 'em...then the rest is up to you...

WILD Bird Hunting - Wyoming Upland & English Setters
Youre a crack shot Sir.
Wow they're beautiful on point. How far can these dogs wind game?
Depends on the wind that's bringing the scent to the dog(s). 50-60 yards easy....I've seen some points that were 100+ yards
To come over a rise and see a great point and honor.....excellent! The rusty oil pump added character. To hunt around old, dilapidated buildings and stone fences/structures a favorite of mine. Thanks again, for a great video. John, from NJ.
You mentioned Sunrise dogs. Are you refereeing to Tekoa Mountain Sunrise? If so 👍
Yep, Tekoa Mountain Sunrise. This particular pup (Jack) is down in Casper, WY and is doing quite well for his owner
@@WyomingUpland Hell yeah. Those dogs are IT.
Good predator drive exhibited grabbing that chukar, trying escape.
always good to recover those downed birds!
Can you tell me what choke you are using in that 20 gauge you are shooting at that chukar?
Improved Cylinder (IC). This seems to work best for my Benelli with 7/8 oz, 7.5 shot shells
I wish I knew something about training a bird dog, your Dogs are amazing.
12 ga? What load do you like for chuckar?
20 ga., #7.5 shot @7/8 oz. I actually use the cheap Federal Top Gun shells
@WyomingUpland I'm from Utah, I have a piece of property 2 miles from flaming gorge. Love Wyoming. Your videos have me fired up to do some upland game hunting. Liked and subscribed.
Did you drop 2 birds at 2:53?
yep, didn't see it occur in the field, but a friend pointed it out after watching the video. I think that was the 4th time this season I've dropped 2 with 1 shot. I knew it occurred the first 3 times and recovered the birds.
I love Huns
I'm in Nevada and have not seen so many birds in over 10 years.
Great points, holding and honoring. What a day!
what locaton is that?
Excellent! You're lucky to live in Wyoming. Very lucky.
Illinois would be better :)
Do you do the rattlesnake shots for your dogs? Is there any precautions that you take for them in the field? Thanks
R.snake vac is controversial...some vets say it works...some don't. The rattlers we have are the prairie rattler variety and the vac is derived from the western diamondback. I don't vac the dogs but they're all snake broke but that doesnt' mean that they don't accidently run over or step on one and get bit
Ya ever do any rabbit?
Nope, don't do the bunnies though on a blue moon, one of the Setters can't seem to resist...
Nice to have the season going. Fun to see shots being taken.
Buck had em in sight. Ready to go, that's a good boy I'd say.
ciekawa okolica,,
You're out there doing it! A bird in hand is secondary. Thanks for the videos
A skunked day is still better than a day of yard work. 😂💪🏽
Nice vid! Have fun
whats the deal with string on the barrel? you checking the wind?
basically a mini wind gauge. We get a lot of very subtle rotating air currents and the string (dental floss) can help determine which way those mini currents flow and help pinpoint the birds
@@WyomingUpland You are really serious.
Looks like a good year. Spielberg has better filming equipment but I’d bet on Tank and Cade!
Thanks, Ron! I was watching "Jaws" last night so had Spielberg on my mind! Wife is out of town so I'm hunting just about 24/7 but it's hot and dry and tough to keep the dogs hydrated
Thank you for the video so that I can share in your wonderful day. Patch looks pretty much just like "my" last two setters. The first one mine. The second one my daughter's family. Both from Eastern Washington breeders. And the country you're hunting looks pretty much like Eastern Oregon.
THNX for watching!
Aren't the Blues up in the forested areas? You're in the Sage where there is Sage Grouse. Tell me I'm wrong!
Blues (Dusky's and Sooty's) are often found in higher elevation sage brush "parks" surrounded by forested areas in late summer into the fall. They're out looking for grasshoppers and forbs. Blues do a reverse migration, going higher up in elevation towards winter, where they do get into thicker forest and feed on spruce needles. The spot on the video was around 8,000' elevation and I wouldn't of been surprised to have found some Sage Grouse too. We've even had the dogs point Blues at around 6,000' out in the desert far away from any forest. I remember an early october hunt several years ago where we pointed huns, chukar, sage grouse and blues within the same square mile
I learned something today, thanks. 👍
@@montemichaelson1471 yea, Blues are kinda' like the love child of Ruffs (deeper forests) and Sage Grouse (wide open, sage brush areas) :)
Just a fun video to watch! Thanks for taking the time to film and edit. Really enjoyed it.
Love your little clips! Keep them coming!
great vid, some good boys doing work right there.
Do you do any snake proofing or tattle snake shots for your dogs?
I've done some snake breaking and the Setters sure don't like'em. But that won't stop a dog from getting bit if he's running full bore and steps on one
What a beautiful sight. Looks dry but the cover is good. Do you think the birds are doing well this year?
I haven't been out enough to really know, but there does seem to be a few around
Best wishes for a good season. I enjoy watching your videos. Thx
That was nice. Do you worry about rattlesnakes in your area?
snakes are always a concern. I practically stepped on one in this general area a couple of weeks ago
Man! I wish I had birds like that behind my house that I could hunt! You are a lucky guy! Great video!
dang, i missed this one, that is a good boy right there. is that Tank?
That's Buck, he was 6+ months old in that video...he's now 6+ years old :)
heck ya, you're back, love your vids man
Been laying low, running the dogs close to home to give the nesting birds some space but now the chicks are flying well we'll give the Setters more leeway
It’s beautiful country 👍
Great stuff. Sounds like, maybe Jean Sebalius? Good choice. Hansome setters. Bird hunting, because...yes.
Oh, good choice in Copeland.
Good jod sir. The shot at 3:12 , yeah, its what we do.
Nice. What beautiful cover. Good shot! Excellent dog work.
Good luck with him sir.
That’s Dog on good thanks for the viewing time today
AWESOME! These are some good boys right here.
Keep on hunting 💯
Excited to give it a listen, thanks for the heads up and I appreciate you sharing your videos.
I was "honored" to watch this video. Find em, find the bird.
Those things are fast🏎🏎
Hell yeah
Good to have a buddy on your flank. Man, what good bird country!!
Close enough....😅...yep, have had 8. Bird to hand is of little merit, as long as they find it. Lost dead is tragedy. Found dead and dropped within 20' is ok. Love this channel.😊
Glad you enjoy the videos and thanks for watching!!!
Great content!
Thanks, Todd! Just saw this as I've temporarily traded sage brush for palm trees and sandy beaches. We'll be talkin' soon!
Have fun@@WyomingUpland
