First English Lutheran Church is a neighborhood church in Oshkosh, WI dedicated to serving our local community by living the Gospel in words and actions. Affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we live our faith through feeding the hungry, welcoming the stranger, visiting the sick, challenging systems of oppression and bringing the light of the Gospel into a dynamic and changing world. We worship four times a week but one could say we are always worshiping in word and deed.
The mission of our church family is to show God's love in such a way that people will exchange ordinary living for an extraordinary life through a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Catching People
The fifth Sunday after Epiphany continues to highlight unlikely instruments and circumstances appointed to reveal God’s glory. “Who will go for us?” God asks. A person of unclean lips, a former persecutor of the church of God, and three fishermen who couldn’t catch a thing. More surprising still, perhaps, is that we are also called. Jesus’ teaching of God’s word has begun to draw great crowds. For Simon, James, and John, Jesus’ teaching inspires hospitality, then obedience, and then risk. After Jesus’ creative power is revealed, fear and amazement leads these three fishermen to leave everything behind to become apostles.

God always has more for us🙏
South-sider for life. I miss my home church and thank you for sharing the nostalgic sites, sounds, and the glorious Word for more to experience. I proudly claim you as my home church from baptism as I carry the Word to people of SE Asia. You are not my sending church, but I will always think of First English as my home. God's Blessings be upon you all. Be courageous enough to tell one new person about Jesus.
I have entered those doors thousands of times but needed God to enter my heart only once.

I'm in the middle of a divorce, I have a 6 year old boy. I don't believe in divorce, my parents never divorced. Mom passed away. Dad's alone. My ex her whole family is divorced, both mom and dad's side. I always told her that's a curse she is bringing into my son's life, that we have to stick it through. Love is about sacrifice. She seems happier but I doubt it, happiness is a lie to me. Not even 7 or 8 months split up and she is pregnant already, with someone she just met, now they moved together. This sermon is a start to something new in my life, I always vowed to never remarry. I can't imagine how my son would feel inside knowing mom and dad will never be together. It rips my heart to pieces. Idk. Life on earth sucks. She was supposed to be my soul mate, but she was never committed to me. We are born on the same day and same year. On sep 1st one hr away 1 hr apart. . . . . God knew jesus had to be in a broken family, in a broken world, in a broken time. Just to save us all. I pray he forgives the bitterness in my heart.
