Добавлен 17 ноя 2009
Casual tennis player based in Singapore. Probably at about 3.5 level.
First picked up a racket in 2017 and started playing with friends.
Had the opportunity to play more regularly after using a local tennis app called Rovo where hitting partners are easily found.
rovo.co/
Mostly learnt from RUclips coaches, a lot of good ones around.
Developed a habit of recording my games and rallies for entertainment, also stroke analysis and self-improvement. Always keen to improve my technique and tactics.

Windy set with Mike at Lagoon View
Wind makes the ball flight less predictable and anticipating the ball becomes a lot more important to set up properly and not end up lunging for the ball. Not as bad as rain for sure, but still rather difficult conditions to play in.

Chill sets using a 2HBH against a human wall at the Palette

First time using the 2HBH in a match situation, I do find that I get easier depth and power using two hands as compared to one. Will continue to utilize the 2HBH and see how things go. In a match situation, tend to revert to the old habits and inadvertently used the 1 hander at some parts. I should also really just ban myself from running around to hit forehands to get more practice on the back...
Nasi Lemak Open Edition 2 Quarterfinals: Ruide @TennisLifeSG vs Julian at Stirling Residences
Просмотров 2652 месяца назад
Quarter finals of the Nasi Lemak tourney. Ruide @TennisLifeSG has clean, consistent groundstrokes and serves and is a very good mover with lots of stamina. He outlasts me by safely returning every ball with good margin over the net. No excuses here as he packs me home 6-2, 6-3, bringing my run in this tournament to an end.

Placed the camera on the 3rd floor here on a tripod to get this viewing angle, and looks pretty neat. Makes for good casual viewing. Kevin hits a Nadal-like spinny forehand (complete with Alcaraz-grunt) and has good deft touches on his slices/dropshots. Also chases down every ball.
Nasi Lemak Open Edition 2 Round of 16: Julian vs Royston @tenniswannabes

Royston, the other half of@tenniswannabes, plays a hard-hitting all court game and he sets up for and punches through every shot with pace, which leads to a number of impressive winners and also some unforced errors. The match ends 6-3, 7-6. One of the line calls I made looks a bit iffy, apologies to my opponent if there was an error.

Semi-finals of this month's KO round against Hiten ends 8-6. Again, one of those topsy turvy matches with me leading 4-1, then losing the lead in 6 straight games to trail 4-6, but somehow coming up on top to win 8-6.
2 sets with Jian Long at Rivertree Residences with new strings

Using a freshly strung tennis racket here, and trying Hyper-G soft for the first time. New strings play very differently from dead polys. Maybe a new favourite string, it feels great, with a plush and soft feel; I don't have to swing too hard and ball feels like it pockets well with good depth. Was having a bit of tennis elbow and my usual stringer Chester (SEATennis) gave me a few theories as ...

Opponent has a nice service motion, and hits the lines rather accurately, with many winners in this pro set. Slices are skiddy, low and deep and very effective. He also returns very well and his short takeback lends to quick return aces. Set was very tight throughout and we reach 7-7 before playing a 7 point tiebreak, which I fortunately manage to come out of on top. See 12:13 for a slice highl...

Congrats. I see the clear improvement you hv made over the various videos. Nice confident clean striking both fore and backhand. Well done! Hope to hit with you some day.
@@DonYang73 thanks for the kind words. Yes, let's arrange one soon 👍
@ Thanks and looking forward, but need to let my knee injury get better before i can play a match meaningfully.
@@DonYang73 I see, that's alright. Tennis is a demanding sport and allowing proper recovery is important!
@@turbulenttennis yes it is pretty demanding to play a game with proper power pace controlled movements especially for older players like me who have accumulated injuries from before. Anyway, how to get hold of you to play?
@DonYang73 my rovo account is l.rovo.co/ElX3rOQ7AOb. Are you on it?
Nice angle! a big screen makes it even better.
Agree, quite fun to watch things from a different perspective for a change 🙂
Two lefties! Not so common!
3:50 looked in bro. I've heard ECTL matches have loads of contentious calls made... Any truth in that?
Yup, I definitely saw it as in also when we played. He thought it was out however, and there's this ? rule where the person on the near side of the ball gets to make the call. It caused a bit of tension that day but decided to let it slide anyway to avoid further drama. I guess in any tournament setting, not just ECT these things happen unfortunately. No real way around it and one person has to let go. Or maybe request to replay the point if both are insistent on it. I think it happens more often when the stakes are seemingly higher though, like in knockout rounds.

@@wintennismysg thanks er win!

woahhh nice pop colors!!
Thanks tom! Found the fonts on capcut 😄
you backhand is particularly weak simply becos you have not gotten rid of your beginner habit. Tip,: use your non hitting arm to stabilise and prepare your shots. I like your Gameplay as it is exciting to watch becos you go for shots.
Thanks for the feedback, will work on it👌
I really could not tell that this was a real person for the first 51 seconds. I thought this was a computer simulation of some kind.
That is hilarious 🤣
Every serve is a foot fault, better work on it before playing matches. otherwise , might as well call an out ball , in.
good observation about my opponent, i didn't even notice it myself!
@@turbulenttennis to be honest i hate playing with habitual footfaulters. some dont expect to be called for it becos it's a "friendly". if thats their attitude, best not to have any match play in any sport whatsoever.
@@DonYang73 the other difficult part is it usually only reveals itself in a recording, from the other side of the net it's hard to see it, much less if i wasn't looking out for it in the first place
@@turbulenttennis yes very minor foot faults are difficult to see from the other side but major foot faults like this , can see from a mile away 😂. Moreover its habitual footfault, every serve. This means technique is WRONG.
Red shirt has very funny serve body motion, but seems fairly effective for him.
the body overrotates into the swing, thus looks a bit odd. I have a similar issue also
@@turbulenttennis looks more like the lower body. And looks more like inflexibility. No over rotation there. 😅
Not an expert which is why i have a similar problem 😅 falling to the right during my serve
Didnt look like a schooling session to me, quite a few nice forced errors on the Coach !
thanks mate!
Guy in black is probably not a 5. Very good 4 , maybe mid 4.5. Overall confident hitting and consistency with good serves. One thing i like is that he uses the step in and split step approach when receiving.
Its irritating playing with people who foot fault all the time and expect people to overlook it just becos its a friendly. Thats like knowingly hitting a ball out and calling it in. Thumbs down
You played really well!
Thanks, appreciate it! 🙏
Im assuming you're the guy in yellow? I only watched the first 2 games, but a quick recommendation would be to work on being able to return from closer and get your weight going forward. If he is kicking the ball like that step in and take it on the rise. He might be able to hit a faster, flatter serve but make him beat you with it. I know there is a camera fisheye effect but you are way way too far back to return that serve with any hope of winning the point. Good luck! I havent played in forever, looks like fun and im very jealous 😊
Thanks for the suggestion! Yup I am in yellow. Hmm, i am returning from that far back to allow his serves to drop so that i can hit a relatively fuller swing within a lower hitting zone, i find it difficult to return on the rise as the ball is kicking up very quickly and increases the chances of mishits. partly its also my forehand takeback is quite large, thus requires more time to set up. 🤔
Opponent is just too strong. Just some tips here for what it's worth.. You should stop slicing if you haven't got the proper technique. It's just setting your opponent up for easy short putaways. Seems like you're only using arm for your groundstrokes with very minimal weight transfer - it may cause injuries in the future. Your second serve is non-existent, and needs work on. It's almost similar to your first serve.. that will lead to a lot of DFs on a bad serve day.
@@goner2006 thanks for the feedback, those you mentioned are a work in progress for sure !
This court looks nice. Wide enough and deep enough. Lines are clear with color seperation. Where is this?

Ah, i don't actually use a phone camera haha, I use a gopro so field of view is slightly wider. Mounting higher definitely helps, i use a monopod and i stood on a chair here to mount it higher. Downside is you can't see the ball height without a court level view haha
Great game and I recognise the court! Amazing that you managed to fit the entire court on your phone camera. It can't fit on my iphone SE even with the swingstick!

@@turbulenttennis looks good
Oh wow from the very first backhand you hit I don’t see the usual up-down hitch you usually have.
Hmm up down hitch?
he's probably referring to how your takeback happens as a jerky sort of motion, then there's a pause before you initiate the forward swing
Keep up the good work !!!!
You learn fast!
Camera is too far away, and frankly technique corrections are hard to make without immediate feedback. Most effective is to hire a coach; I recommend Amar Saletovic, he has a ridiculous kick serve. Second most effective is to watch progression videos and just keep trying until it clicks.
Thanks for the feedback, I have online coaching via a channel called Online Tennis Instruction where they do gradual progressions for developing the kick serve. The main issue some have highlighted here is that my chest and shoulders open up too early. Kick serves will typically have a relatively closed body - if you view the kick serve from above, it will look like the racquet stays parallel to (and travels along) the baseline. I agree having immediate feedback is definitely helpful, but it can be quite costly so I will see how I progress without it first!
@@turbulenttennis they are correct. I would also suggest that your ball toss could be lower (generally, higher is harder to time) and try to make contact above your head. The racket is parallel-ish to the baseline at contact but it definitely does not stay parallel. Think about brushing up and out (towards the left net post) from 5 o'clock to 10 o'clock on the ball. The racket has to be angled at contact, it cannot be vertical otherwise it does not impart any spin. I serve maybe 90% kick so go watch to see what I mean.
@@fuzzyballstennisclub great tips, thanks! yup the brushing up is important and a vertical racket cannot brush up, it can only brush sideways
I don’t think you actually use these shuffle steps in point play though. Maybe it was the situation where he was feeding so near to you that made you feel like you had to take shuffle steps to adjust quickly. Check back your videos of past matches to see. I’m pretty sure you take crossover steps when you move side to side.
ruclips.net/video/HVBnhNUgj5A/видео.htmlsi=1RRvgyW0J9geQv3r you make a good point though, in 14:50 here I do a crossover step subconsciously 🤭
Spot on. I was waiting for him to correct you. Is that Coach Best?

Ah as I expected. Thiem-wannabe's mental side of the game needs a hard reset. He got frustrated so easily and showed it on almost all points that he lost. Good win by you. And also great job for keeping your cool despite him screaming and shouting on the points he lost. It is easy to lose focus or get annoyed by such things.
