      This is a different from Guōmèngwěi does this one as well it is the yībǎilíngbā 一百零八 (108) pronounced suparinpei in Okinawan of his lóngzūnquán 龙尊拳(dragon respect boxing). The other form Guōkǒngxī is doing is from a different style Zhōuzihé 周子和 "Shushiwa" did, Shàolín-quán 少林拳 (Shaolin boxing) which tends to use numbers as their kata name over the poetic names. It is Yībǎilíngbā 一百零八 (108) aka "Suparenpei" and okre poetically Shàolín Shísān Tàibǎo 少林十三太保 (Shaolin Thirteen Great Heroes). It is also called Nánjí 南极 (south pole or southern extreme). Zhōuzihé/Shushiwa did a number of styles, most say he mastered 18. Amongst them are tiger, crane, snake, dog, cow, chicken, fish, monk, lion, Confucius boxing and Shaolin boxing. These 2 forms are the final forms of his Shaolin boxing and dragon boxing styles and both have been called suparinpei but the suparinpei of Shaolin and the suparinpei of dragon boxing. There is also a suparinpei of his chicken boxing and tiger boxing, among others. There is lots more information on the Shushiwa Facebook page and you can find and message me there as well. Justin LaVasse 🙇‍♂️

      @@shushiwa3479 Yes, I can see Uechi elements here as well, although, the performance of the Chinese kata is so fast they are sometimes difficult to see. I have to watch them several times before I can begin picking out these elements. I see portions of the kata you provided the link for as well as the "Shaolin Thirteen Great Heroes" above, that remind me of portions of Seisan, specifically. I'm kinda the "unofficial historian" of my dojo and really appreciate the history of Shushiwa, Uechi Kanbun Sensei, and Uechi Ryu in general. The video of Shushiwa's home and even some of the murals he had painted on the walls was phenomenal. Thanks again for all your hard work! I'll continue to watch and learn! Domo arigato!

    I’ve only been an Uechi Ryu practitioner for four years. I will be testing for Shodan in Aug of ‘24, so I’m certainly not qualified to comment on whether this is the “lost fourth kata;” however, I can certainly see Uechi techniques and concepts in this kata. Definitely a thought provoking question and concept. I greatly appreciate all your labors in providing this invaluable information and record of our style’s founder. 🙏🏻

There are 2 other unarmed crane forms by Guōkǒngxī and his student. I will have to find them and see how they compare to other crane lineage. I wonder if they can be identified and if they are also related to mínghèquán 鳴鶴拳 or another lineage. 🤷‍♂️

      I think some of these forms and drills are obviously more for entertainment but that could have been part of what Zhōuzihé 周子和 "Shushiwa" did. Some like tiger boxing might have been dynamic, strong and powerful like the tiger and others like monkey, chicken and duck more comedic in there performance. 🤷‍♂️

    • @shushiwa3479
      @shushiwa3479 7 месяцев назад

      Yes maybe. Maybe Kambun was more interested in the combative applications and some of Zhōuzihé's 周子和 "Shushiwa's" students more interested in the village entertainment aspects. Still this is an important part of the history that needs to be documented and researched. Without seen examples of Zhōuzihé/Shushiwa's descendant schools we don't know what questions to ask or if they are truly related. We may need to adjust our assumptions about Zhōuzihé/Shushiwa, Kanbun and Pangainoon 半硬軟.

It is possible some of these do not come from Zhōuzihé's lineage or they are highly influenced by the other arts he learned. It is also possible Zhōuzihé/Shushiwa was not the teacher of Uechi Kanbun. Until recently not much was know outside China about Guōkǒngxī and his style other than Suparinpei so I think it is important to share these videos so we can get a clear view of his style and then evaluate the historical link and suparinpei. 🙇‍♂️

    Please 🙏 dear friend, maybe I am mistake, this is kata same like 108 Yibalinshibu Suparinpei

    • @shushiwa3479
      @shushiwa3479 7 месяцев назад

      Simon Lailey called it Suparinpei 一百零八 (108) when he learned ot from Guōkǒngxī 郭孔熙 but itnis clearly labled here in Chinese as Shàolín Shísān Tàibǎo 少林十三太保 (Shaolin Thirteen Great Heroes). Kata cam have alternate names, I believe their are poetic and more standard universal names. sanseiryu 三十六 can be called Shàngshānhǔ 上山虎 (ascend mountain tiger) while Sìmén 四门 can be called Xiàshānhǔ 下山虎 (tiger descends the mountain) and may a name for seisan 十三. This form is also called Nánjí 南极(southern extreme) by Guōkǒnxī.

    I can see some suparinpei in that form of I'm not mistaken.

      Yes Simon Lailey says this form is called Suparinpei but it is labled her under a alternate poetic name. I have sen Sanchin is tiger boxing called fire ice tiger stretches his claws and in Chicken boxing sanchin is also called a single row of incense. Forms seam to have poetic names within the style and more standard general names outside.

    I rather like the stabbing motions (vertical nukite rather than the flat horizontal nukite of today). We train it. It is actually found in several places in the kata of contemporary-style UechiRyu but its location, use, and power generation has, I think, been forgotten. It's not "hidden", it's just been overlooked. Or, it may be one of the deleted techniques after the style renovation of the 1950's and 1960's.

      We’ve “met” via an email conversation just prior to the publication of your first book, “Bunburyodo: History, Philosophy, and Training Concepts Of The Okinawa KarateDo UechiRyu Zankai,” which I’ve purchased as well as volume two. Thoroughly enjoyed both. I’m a student of Scott Romiza Sensei.

      The vertical nukite occur in Zhāngtiāncì's lineage as well. I think a lot of the young let generation don't know about older variations of our techniques which makes it harder to them to evaluate these forms. It is essential for people like you to share your input. Thank you sir. 🙇‍♂️ Also Shàngshānhǔ 上山虎 (ascend mountain tiger) seams to be an alternative poetic name for Sìmén 四门 (4 directions) which itself could be another name for seisan 十三. I don't see a 1:1 correspondence with our seisan but it is interesting. Zhāngtiāncì's 张天赐 sìmén 四门 is different but also shares some technical similarities with Uechi ryu. 🤷‍♂️ Also
