@@reggiemitchell5198No! Naturally, her voice type is a contralto. She’s just learned to mix. Her chest range stops at C5. From C#5 upwards, it’s all mixed.

@@benjaminbawa5273 there nothing contralto about her voice at all. She’s a lyric soprano. Contraltos have androgynous and make sounding voices. In all areas of their voices. No matter if they learned to mix it would still doing nothing like this and they are more comfortable in the 4th register. You can tell this lady mixes but some are more heady and some are evenly mixed but again her voice sits way to high to even be a mezzo. I’m not sure where your are getting that from. She has a great lower register but that doesn’t mean she’s a contralto.

You must be sleeping on her. She’s very comfy in her lower register and it sounds very weighty and comfortable for her to sing in.

it's mostly his falsetto that sounds so tenorish. which is always a weird to me because most baritones I've heard have that very airy and bright sound in their falsetto whereas most tenors have extremely nasal and feminine tone to their highs. His chest singing does not sound tenor at all. I feel like Castle on the Hill is the best example of how dynamic his voice can be. Honestly I don't obsess over his voice type too much because he's hitting the notes and hitting them well. He's a solid singer either way.

Agreed… He’s not the highest tenor in the world, but compare his voice to a baritone like Frank Sinatra’s or Frank Ocean’s. Ed’s voice is notably lighter. Vocal fans on the internet will just call anyone with a voice lower than Michael Jackson’s a baritone

It's definitely close. Mathematically he's a tenor. The middle note in Ed's modal range (E2 - F5, middle B3) is closer to the middle note of the definition of a tenor's range (C3 - G5, middle E4) than a baritone's (F2 - F4, middle F3). F3 is -6s from B3. E4 is +5s from B3. Honestly though, considering that 1.) his range is over 3 octaves, 2.) an untrained singer has more like 1.5 octaves, 3.) trained singers typically expand their high notes farther than their lows; it stands to reason that his "biological default" may be more of a baritone. Interesting voice for sure.

@@ScaleShift I agree he's a tenor, but the reasoning I don't agree with. Chest range is only a small part of classifying voices. It's tessitura, passaggio, and vocal weight that determines it.
