BFD 3 Black Album Drums DM10 Demo

A quick little demo of Chocolate Audio's Black Album expansion for FXpansion's BFD 3 . I'm using an Alesis DM10 as my controller. A quick demo playing probably the easiest song in the world on drums, but still please don't mind any sloppiness. I also have SSD4 which has a "version" of this sound as well, but it doesn't come close to this. I'm not super thrilled about the hihat, too loud and a b...

Schecter C1 Classic with JB in the bridge and 59 in the neck. Plugged into a Fractal Audio AX8 with a preset I made. The delay is matched from my 80s Roland SRV2000 which is the exact delay used for "Welcome to the Jungle". Please don't mind the poor video quality, webcam is a Logitech 922 Pro. I need to brush up on my video recording skills.

I’m also debating in between this black album or dark farm
Sorry I'm not familiar with Dark Farm.
I honestly think it sounds great. I was wondering how how will they sound with my Roland Td50x drums. Thanks
I haven't messed with a roland kit in years but from my experience you'd basically have to use it as a midi controller into your computer running BFD. That's what I was doing here but with an Alesis DM10. Sounds wouldn't change in that case but there's the potential for latency.
@@mesiebooga thanks for replying
@@mesiebooga If there is Latency issues with a roland TD50X can it be fixed or would that mean you cannot use this with a roland TD50X module? Thank you
@@johnfrith7884 first you need to see if the td50 passes MIDI data over usb or if you would need to use the MIDI OUT to another interface to communicate with your computer. The interface, the DAW, and the computer specs you use will all determine the latency. There’s a lot of variables there so your best bet would be to research the specific gear you’re using and see how to best decrease latency. In this setup, same as the DM10 I had, the brain or module is simply being use to convert the signal from the pad into a MIDI signal for your computer to interpret. The internal sounds and features of the td50 aren’t being utilized.
Turn that middle up on you bass tone. There’s a lot of evil in that fella, just begging to get out🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
This was intended to mimic the original tone of the song. If I sculpted a tone from scratch it would definitely have more mids.
Hey my friend. Awesome cover, awesome sound! May I ask you what EMG BTS switch positions did you use here? Thanks so much.
Treble on 0 (centered), Bass on max. This was an older 2 band.
He was talking about the switches on the actual bts preamp itself..inside the control cavity.
What strings are you using? Great fucking tone that's how Sad But True should sound!!!
I’m a big fan of Rotosounds RS66LD’s, but seeing in this video it doesn’t have the red silk it was something different. I was a fan of Daddario’s nickel wound as well, but they lose the brightness quickly.
Perfect, that’s an ns2 correct?
early 2000s NS4CR, similar to the current Euro but with a solid maple body and brass bridge, both like the USA.
@@mesiebooga neat, I’m new to the world of Spectors and want that Alice In Chains bass sound without having to spend a fortune. I’m probably gonna get a Spector legend standard or an ns2a
@@jacbuckner Out of the 2 I would get a NS2A, they were the precursor to the NS4CR and Euro, albeit still made different and I believe were Korean instead of Czech. I sold my Spector a few months ago and honestly with a similarly equipped bass you can get 95% of the way there. Maple neck through, high output pickups (if you can do EMG PJ even better). The Hazlab preamp adds a bit, but I wasn't even using one here. Other than the preamp (which not all use the Haz anyways) there's not really anything unique in a Spector's setup regarding the tone.
This is the bass tone that brings me back to remember why I wanted to learn bass 🎸 Mike Starr captured the definition of baseline for me and could shine through the band individually just as much as the lead guitarist sticks out in a group band. Awesome to see how you modified your playing to his original sound, rock on 🤘 keep kicking ass on bass my guy 💯
Thank you for the compliment! Yes, Mike Starr was an outstanding bass player and musician. So many are taken too early.
Muy bueno!! Me encantó!!
Amazing bro!!
Really great job! I have a questioni for you. I have your bass(all maple with Czech Haz preamp instead EMG), but i can't have your sound that is very close to a NS2 USA. Usually i play with a SansAmp or Darkglass preamp but even using both in a parallel mode something miss. How many of your sound come from AX8 and how many from bass? I hope my question is clear.. Thanks guy! 🍻🍻🤘🤘
Thanks. I have since changed the preamp for a Haz and while the difference is noticeable, it's not huge. As far as the preset, I don't fully remember the specifics, but the EQ match within the AX8 (a custom IR can be used with almost any modeler) is by far the biggest piece. I've since upgraded to the Axe Fx III and again the Haz preamp, so it'd be a little closer now. The Axe FX doesn't have a Sansamp model, although I do love that pedal. It does have the B7K darkglass, but I didn't use it. The whole tone is a compressor before the amp, a ampeg SVT model, EQ match in place of the cab, and most likely EQ and additional compression after. If I did any parallel DI signal (which I doubt) it would be blended pretty low, so at the least the amp'd tone is majority of the sound.
Great tone!!! 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
Thanks
Nice Spector 🤘🏻
Thanks!
I wanted to dislike your video because I'm way too jealous of your tone ! You Fu!ck!ng nailed that tone ! It's the bass tone I've been searching for years
Thanks. Spector and Axe FX, endless possibilities.
Awesome Job bro:) keep it up!
I’m new to the bfd drum product. Do you have to buy anything in order to run this? In other words is it an expansion that you need the base product for first? Thanks!
Yes you will need the base BFD 3 and then this expansion pack.
So much better than SD3.
The Hi hat in this pack really bugs me so it will need tweaking. I use SD 3 more often though as it sounds great right away. Tone wise they're both great but BFD is more raw while SD3 is like a finished product.
Good
What did you use in the chain to make the match?
Here's the thread for my preset. I used Izotope 5's EQ match feature to match the tone, then created the IR in Voxengo Deconvolver. forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/pantera-rex-brown-bass-preset.145918/
@@mesiebooga Thank you so muuuch!!!
Impressive
Can you share this preset?
There's been an update to the AX8 so it may not sound exactly the same anymore, but I'll update it soon. forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/slash-%E2%80%9Cappetite-for-destruction%E2%80%9D.139683/#post-1662236
