Dicky Holland Pork pies. Is Rising sun still there? Little cafe on Kirton Lane? Thorne Engineers have gone. My Nan once called EW Pidd Mr Pig by mistake.
Had a shop and flat built next door to what was Dicky Hollands , Still live in the flat and rent the shop out Steve Clark owns what was Hollands.Rising Sun has been demolished there are houses going to be built on the land, cafe still open on kirton lane
Were the breaks banging when applied?
No the breaks were ok it was just the dash light on all the time.
♥️
duren
I love the way the Hurst's and old police station buidings were recreated. But hate the way they have stood empty since the rebuild. Covid obviously hasn't helped. Also hate how the windows are frequently broken on that new build.
And it is still empty lol will be like that for more years to come
Hi, David did you watch the 1st video?
Load of rubbish this video is of no help at all
We’re you getting a fault code?
Hi yes I did get a fault code but can't remember what it was but it told me there was a fault on the abs censor
Geoff, the building you describe as Pidd's cafe, was actually Reid's grocer's shop. This was a very interesting place in its own right, with its delicious smell of freshly-ground coffee, cheese cut from huge blocks using a wire and butter scooped from wooden tubs and knocked into a brick shape with wooden paddles. Like many other establishments of its kind, you could also buy cigarettes and tobacco there. The hoist on the first floor was for hauling up sacks of animal feed, which Reid's also sold. Pidd's pork butchers and restaurant was on the right of this building and later became a fish and chip shop for a while. It was demolished along with Hirst's to make way for the new and as yet unoccupied development of shops which extends along Silver Ṡtreet. I believe Mr (Enos) Pidd was Swiss. Behind the Pidds' house, now transformed into the Punch Bowl pub, there were hard courts where I played tennis as a teenager.
Hi, Michael your right Pidds was to the right of the pizza shop thank you for pointing this out and thank you for your comments , Geoff.
Thanks for clearing up the owner of the punch bowl. I had couldn't remember my Nan used to point it out.
My old Thorne. I now live 6000 miles away but the old accent still enchants and amuses me. Very good short film to watch
Thank you Roy for your comment glad you enjoyed it all the best Geoff Coates.
Git up my chavi my mush
Crikey what has happened- used to be fields of corn and barley. Walked that lane nearly everyday with the dog. They always wanted to build on the land but it was part of the green belt, probably would be the best thing they can do now. Thank you so much for the video but will remember it as it was when it was my playground.
No problem glad you enjoyed it
