    Will this work with a planted pond? I mean with a substrate?

    You put a lot of work into your system but I cannot help to mention how dark and murky the water is with all that equipment. One would think with all those filters the water would be crystal clear. I'm not bashing you, just giving an honest opinion.

      "Dark and murky" really? The water looks pretty clear to me, maybe clean your specs mate. At the start of the video you can see the fish clearly. Personally I couldn't stand looking at that ugly filter system but it works

    Great video it helped me a lot. I am making a pond type pool , 3 meters round and it will be 120cm deep with a walk in slop. I want it to look like a pond and it will have a waterfall above it. Its more for looks in the garden but on the hot days i want to walk into it to cool down, my question is do you think the slooing system you mentioned will work for me and waht type of pump do yiu recommend? 🤞🏾

    Great video, thanks! Quick question - if you didn't want to put a hole in the pond wall, so no bulkhead, would it be possible to run the pipe up and over the pond wall?

    What about adding a skimmer connected to the suction line in order to improve filtration and skim the top part of the water.

    Great video. I'm trying to figure out flow rate and pipe sizes for over stocked pool? Is the whole idea to match the correct pipe size to pump size so there is no draw down in each chamber/barrel so you have a lower flow rate? Or in an over stock koi pond/pool would it be better to oversize my pump to have draw down in each chamber or barrel in my case. I was planning to have two retro fit bottom drain pipes going into my 1st 55 gallon static K1 barrel with both being 2"/50mm pipes, than into the 2nd 55 gallon static K1 barrel with a 3"/76mm pipe, then into my 3rd 55 gallon moving bed K1 barrel, then into my 4th 55 gallon moving bed K1 barrel then to a dry 3500 gph/13248 lph pump back to the pool water fall. I figure a ball valve/gate valve can be closed off before the pump to adjust the flow rate? Thanks all for any help asap.

    Maybe a silly question but a lot of in pond pumps say that they can’t be used for swim ponds due to the risk of electric shock. Dry run pumps that you sit 2m away and lower than the pond level seem to be more expensive compared to submerged pumps with the same L per hr capacity. So is it safe to put a submersible pump into the filter system fed by a bottom drain, as surely this water is a continuous route of electric conduction back to the pond? Thanks

    I have an idea that if you can wifi control the water fill, you can also wifi activate aeration for the pond. But I guess if the power goes out while you’re away, a solar pump and battery pack will have to activate till the power comes back on…

    This is perfect! I am currently rebuilding my pond and this has explained / made me understand this a lot better. I have a couple of questions through, is it literally just gravity / water pressure that sends the water from the bottom drain into the filter? Does it matter where the filter is placed, for instance can it be higher than the pond or does it need to be the same height or lower? and is it worth fitting some sort of valve to stop water coming into the filter to carry out maintenance on the filter or would that just cause problems?

  • @NoName-cu4gr

    I'm a novice in process of building a raised planter with a pond at one end and came to the same conclusion as you have here - that the pump will work much better in a relatively clean water chamber. Allow gravity to do as much of the work as possible. Glad I found this video because I have been posting on a pond forum and copped for some flack.

    how does distance and amount of pipe turns affect the system? or does it ?

  • @uk9383
    @uk9383 Год назад

    Some pipes could be just too small. i think that is restricting the flow. Especially the one that brings the water through the bottom drain through the wall. If you would drill the holes lower you wouldnt achieve anything as the water would just be pumped away and you would have the water levels even lower.

    Thank you very much for your helpful video. I really like the gravity fed filter design together with the sloped floor fishpond. Do you think this system will also work well for fish farming? How much slope or pitch should the pond floor have? I appreciate it very much if you have time to respond.

    Good sharing! I had a gravity fed bottom drain system for my Koi before.. the problem was that after about 2 years..gravel/leaves/sand settled at the bottom of the pipe and choked the whole system. I got a plumber to flush it out with pressure jets but was unable to clear the sediments completly. I got a handy man to seal my bottom drain and did a retro fit piping like yours but added slopes with concrete and have had no issues for the past 5 years.
