Part of the reason we are homesteading is to produce our own food. Sometimes that means coming face to face with it from the time it’s young. While it’s not going to be an easy process, we are determined to give all of our livestock the best life we can and it is our vow to them that they never know suffering while in our care and that their sacrifice is honored. Link to planters?
Unroll the roll and plant them. As you saw, the seeds are scattered throughout the roll. You can even cut up the roll to fit yout planter size. Just burying the entire roll, unrolled, doesn't make sense. If the instruction on the box says to do that, then it's wrong. Someone on RUclips did it correctly and got tons of tomato plants just from that one roll. He unrolled it, cut off pieces and planted them, after his first attempt failed, and was successful the second time round.
Great job! Very inspiring God Bless.
Just trying my herb rockets in Louisiana in October when temperatures are mild. Thanks for the instructions. The box gave me no clue what to do. 💐
Hey, can you pressure can using that size?
So what happened to the tomato rocket?
Thank you for showing your results from cutting a piece rather than following the directions. I bought the parsley rocket today and was baffled when I opened it. My impulse was to unroll it and plant it in a window box. Thyme is apparently hard to start from seed, germination can take from one to twelve weeks.
Music is much much much too loud
I use them for dry goods using my Foodsaver. Have no issues...
Good topic to bring out
Tell me about the one with bananna peel for the garden. How do you do this and for how long? Thanks.
I love these too-
Site will not let me like.
I vacuum seal dry goods in these jars...have been for years !
I use mine for Pickled eggs with beets. My husband and his family love them. I also use one for spicy cherry tomato's as my father in law loves them.
I just bought some but had no plans on how to use them. I knew they would come in handy for something but hated to have something else to store. So your video was timely for me. Now I see that I'm storing the stuff now, but in ways that use up other things that I need, like bowls, small jars, etc. This was inspirational and I probably will go back and get some more. THANKS!
Mary this couldn't sound more like me! 🙌🏻❤
I use mine for some of my dehydrated things. My family likes corn and cabbage, so I dehydrate those and put them in those jars.
✌👍💖 I love half gallons too. Going to be good when water canning again outside. Saw a guy water canning meat for winter in a huge pot over fire all night.
Awesome item, I am a prepper & have most of this in a backpack & another in a small rolled cart
I use them for dry storage. I plan on buying a giant pot so I can use it as a water bath for half gallon jars.
@@diann9159 I already do that for my home canned goods.
@diann9159 there are things you can can in them. I think he's an adult who can obviously use the internet and do his own research.
Great information 😀. I can’t wait to see your new home.
Just found you this morning and I subscribed. This video was great information!!! My Mama’s maiden name is Frazier. We’re from Tennessee 😀
I use them for dry food storage at my Walmart they are the same price as 12 quart jars but hold twice as much volume so they are a better deal hard to find sometimes. i need the jars in case things get worse and I cannot find them later. if you are storing jars they should be full of something
I dont think so .lol
I am new sub.. blessed that you was in my feed..love what y'all are doing, with the little amount I have watched so far❤️
Try fermenting your pineapple scaps making Mexican tepache drink, it's delicious...
Use them for most of our dried storage….an oxy absorber and vacuum seal works great…..
I keep a couple of these jars of water on hand in case of emergency. I use them for dry goods such as sugar, oats, pasta, flour etc. They use the same lids as other wide mouth, so no special lids needed. I make iced tea & lemonade in them, and they are perfect to sit in the fridge door. I purchased lids with spout and handle for this purpose. I love my 1/2 gallon jars! I wish they made gallon jars that would use the wide mouth lids, I would totally use those for dry goods.
@Kim X - Use a canning funnel & store any dry goods you could think of. Vac seal & they are EXCELLENT for long term storage.
I just picked up 4 flats of them today. I love them to store grains, rice, pasta, etc. I get these everytime I see them available in our area. Thanks for sharing.
Gotta look into these books. Thanks for the video.
I store all sorts of foods in 1/2 gal jars. I do a lot of home dehydrating. When I do bulk processing of that for such things as frozen mixed vegetables when they are on sale, I prefer 1/2 jars jars. I can vac seal those with a FoodSaver. To use, just open the oldest jar and take out what I need. If its going to be awhile before I use that item again, I can re-vac seal the jar.
I have vaccum sealed candy that I purchase end of season on sale, cookies, choc chips , tea bags, cereals , crackers of all types, flour, bisquick mix, many types of nuts, oatmeal, instant potatoes, pretzels,& much more. All at today's prices as they are rising .
I forget to mention pasta 's & dry beans .
I use half gallons for my water and milk kefir! Great video
They're great to store moonshine in too.
😉
Wonderful topic and very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!d Thanks for watching :)
@The Frazier Homestead Just found you today (Dec 5, 2021): this video came up in my YT Recommended. I'd always passed up 1/2 gallon canning jars because I didn't know what I would use them for that would make them worth the price. Now I know, thanks to you and the many suggestions in your comments, thank you. Subscribed and looking forward to more of your helpful content!
I make herbal tincture and store dried herbs/goods in them. Love them !
Yes!! I have fire cider doing it’s thing in one right now, and a I have one full of dried echinacea. It wasn’t until I read your comment though that I realized I could also be storing my whole herbs in them! I have some dried goldenrod that needs a home- thank you!
I have been using half gallon jars to vacuum seal powered milk, pasta, rice etc. Will keep thse things indefinitely if the seal is intact.
I just looked at Walmart and they are $69.95 for six jars. I think I’ll pass. I have purchased them before and have several still, but I’m thinking I paid about $12 for six.
That’s wild! I looked on their site and the listing I found for $69.95 was a third party listing (I only recently found out that Walmart allows third party listings). If you Google half gallon jars and then use the shopping filter most are $14-20 for a 6 pack :)
@@thefrazierhomestead5801 Thanks for your help. I did find them at ACE Hardware for $16.99. At least their website says they have them for that price. I’ll actually go to Walmart tomorrow and see what they have. If they aren’t there or if they are more expensive I’ll check with ACE. I’d been thinking recently that I wished I had more of them.
@@lynneanderson8643 best of luck!
@@thefrazierhomestead5801 Thanks and thanks for your video.
I picked up some at Walmart today for 12.00
I use these for storing cold coffee, ceral, dried beans, pasta, soup etc, love the half galloons. Great topic I have never seen this topic on RUclips before.
They ARE the perfect size for fermented vegetables!😃
I Use my Half Gallon Jars for Extra Storage Containers For Flours, Meals, Rices, Pasta and Grains as well as Dehydrated Foods and Snacks.
Me too
@@rcgkreations me three....plus they're great for ferments....
I use them for everything. Store dry goods, make infusions, store soup and juice in fridge.
Good video. I was wondering if I should get that big of a jar. So you made up my mind. Thanks.
Ah just wait until you have kids lol. Ive got 5 and time to do stuff like this is out the window
Love your solar dryer !!
How long x wide were the panels?
They’re 16 feet by 50 inches. We did have to cut about 6 inches off one, because we had 8 foot boards, but if you had 10 foot boards you could cut down you could leave the panel alone and not have to cut it.
@@thefrazierhomestead5801 THANKS 😊
I love half gallon jars. I stored crackers, Oreo cookies, pasta, and beans in them. They could also be used for flour and rice. The possibilities are endless.
I m just starting canning, still new to this. Do you recommend jars with regular or wide mouth? Based on your experience which ones are better?
What a fantastic question! I like both! It really depends on a couple things for me: what I’m canning, the size of the jar, the mouth on the jar. If I’m making a batch of pickled eggs for the fridge, always wide mouth because it’s so hard to get out of regular. If I’m doing jams and jellies I like to match the mouth size with the jar, so maybe a wide mouth pint but a regular mouth half pint, that way I can easily scrape the sides and I have access to the whole jar right from the top. If I’m canning a single serving of tomato sauce, I generally go for a quart jar with a regular mouth for some reason. They both have their place in our kitchen :)
@@thefrazierhomestead5801 Thank you for the clarification. Would you post a video on pickled eggs?
New subscriber! Exactly what I was looking for!
Excited to have you! Thank you!
