A global pandemic and onslaught of natural disasters have caused nearly everyone to take note of how prepared they are for such events. We have taken that a step further and are preparing now, for any event that could happen in the future. While we have always practiced the basics of keeping an extra bundle of toilet paper on hand (which saved our hineys in 2020) and a couple extra cans of food in our pantry, but this year we have felt called to take stock of what we have and build it up to prepare for the worst.
In this multi part series we will share what that looks like FOR US. Please remember that eve...

    Link to planters?

  • @moonbladem
    @moonbladem 9 месяцев назад

    Unroll the roll and plant them. As you saw, the seeds are scattered throughout the roll. You can even cut up the roll to fit yout planter size. Just burying the entire roll, unrolled, doesn't make sense. If the instruction on the box says to do that, then it's wrong. Someone on RUclips did it correctly and got tons of tomato plants just from that one roll. He unrolled it, cut off pieces and planted them, after his first attempt failed, and was successful the second time round.

    Thank you for showing your results from cutting a piece rather than following the directions. I bought the parsley rocket today and was baffled when I opened it. My impulse was to unroll it and plant it in a window box. Thyme is apparently hard to start from seed, germination can take from one to twelve weeks.

Now I see that I'm storing the stuff now, but in ways that use up other things that I need, like bowls, small jars, etc. This was inspirational and I probably will go back and get some more. THANKS!

    I keep a couple of these jars of water on hand in case of emergency. I use them for dry goods such as sugar, oats, pasta, flour etc. They use the same lids as other wide mouth, so no special lids needed. I make iced tea & lemonade in them, and they are perfect to sit in the fridge door. I purchased lids with spout and handle for this purpose. I love my 1/2 gallon jars! I wish they made gallon jars that would use the wide mouth lids, I would totally use those for dry goods.

    I store all sorts of foods in 1/2 gal jars. I do a lot of home dehydrating. When I do bulk processing of that for such things as frozen mixed vegetables when they are on sale, I prefer 1/2 jars jars. I can vac seal those with a FoodSaver. To use, just open the oldest jar and take out what I need. If its going to be awhile before I use that item again, I can re-vac seal the jar.

    I m just starting canning, still new to this. Do you recommend jars with regular or wide mouth? Based on your experience which ones are better?

    • @thefrazierhomestead5801
      @thefrazierhomestead5801 3 года назад

      What a fantastic question! I like both! It really depends on a couple things for me: what I’m canning, the size of the jar, the mouth on the jar. If I’m making a batch of pickled eggs for the fridge, always wide mouth because it’s so hard to get out of regular. If I’m doing jams and jellies I like to match the mouth size with the jar, so maybe a wide mouth pint but a regular mouth half pint, that way I can easily scrape the sides and I have access to the whole jar right from the top. If I’m canning a single serving of tomato sauce, I generally go for a quart jar with a regular mouth for some reason. They both have their place in our kitchen :)
